Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The submitted manuscript reports the preparation of six new Co complexes with N,N,N-chelating ligands and their application as catalyst for ethylene polymerization. I recommend its publication after a minor revision.

1.       Line 158 -   it should be – 128,7 probably.

2.       I would connect chapters 2.4 and 2.5 together.

3.       Line 412 - (dibenzocycloheptyl) – please, use either trivial or systematic name throughout the paper.

4.       Line 414 – it should be F instead of G probably.

5.       Short description of catalytic experiment should be added into Experimental.

6.       There is an error in ref.54.

7.       The majority of references is made up of the authors´ work. Reconsider whether all these references are necessary. On the other hand, I recommend adding the recent work by Lu et al. (Polym. Chem., 2022, 13, 4090).

Reviewer 3 Report

Sun and Solan et al reported five types of unsymmetrical 2,6-bis(arylimino)pyridine cobalt (II) complexes Co1-Co5 and symmetrical comparator Co6. All compounds were well characterized by various kinds of spectroscopic technique. The obtained Co1-Co6 displayed high activities for ethylene polymerization. This referee thinks that this manuscript is interesting and has sufficient novelty for publication in Catalyst after minor modifications. Some comments are list below:

(1) For the ligands L1-L6 containing F atoms, the C-F coupling is recommended to presented in the NMR data. And the 1H, 13C and 19F NMR spectra of this ligands should be covered in the Supporting information.

(2) Sun et al has prepared a lot of Co and Fe catalysts for the polymerization of ethylene based on similar motifs. Is the presented catalyst prior than the previously reported ones?

(3) Compared with other kinds of catalysts reported by other research groups, what is advantages of the presented catalyst?
