A Remote Sensing View of the 2020 Extreme Lake-Expansion Flood Event into the Peace–Athabasca Delta Floodplain—Implications for the Future SWOT Mission
Round 1
Reviewer 1 Report
This study focused on a lake expansion flood event that occurred in the Peace-Atha-basca Delta during the summer of 2020. This event provided a unique opportunity to test a flood hydrology application of several SBEO satellites, such as Sentinel-1, Sentinel-2, Sentinel-3, Jason 3, RADARSAT Constellation Mission, and simulated data of the recently launched (December 2022) SWOT mission to see how they have, or would have, witnessed this extreme event. The topic is interesting and within the scope of Remote Sensing. The main conclusions are well supported by results. I would recommend a Moderate Revision.
(1) The SWOT has been launched in end of 2022. This new satellite would provide rich information as references in monitoring global and regional water cycle. How to use the results of this manuscript in a SWOT era should be discussed.
(2) Abstract: The section should be revised; for example, some quantitative results may be more informative to readers.
(3) Introduction: Before pointing out the PAD, the background at a larger spatial scale should be introduced. For example, adding some illustration about climate change impacts on global water cycle would be more interesting to wide-ranging readers. The following references might be helpful.

(4) More details about the data collection should be clarified. For example, data spanning period and spatial and temporal scales.
(5) Some information in Section 2.6 is reductant with Introduction.
(6) Results: Hydrological extremes might show different pattern with hydrological mean states. Some relevant discussions might be interesting.
(7) The underlying uncertainty should be introduced.
