Understanding the Tourists’ Spatio-Temporal Behavior Using Open GPS Trajectory Data: A Case Study of Yuanmingyuan Park (Beijing, China)
Round 1
Reviewer 1 Report
Authors should pay less attention to the GPS case and more to the interest of its results.
The data work is exciting, but it loses relevance, both in the initial and final part, since neither its interest in studying tourist destinations exists in the literature review, nor its management conclusions in the final part.
The Open Data and the GPS process should not be the focus of the work, but its usefulness for studying the tourist destination, from its particular case to the generalization of the methodology.
Consequently, the recommendations are:
- Delete the entire sub-section 2.1 on Open Data.
- Replace it with a literature review on the Tourist Destination's internal study (nodes, flows).
- Divide number 5 into two sections, the first for conclusions and the second for future research.
- Write, totally new, section 5.1. According to the results and their interest in the target literature and the management of the case under study.
As the paper currently stands, it lacks interest in the field of Tourism.

It was a great pleasure to read the presented research results. The importance of tourists' spatio-temporal behavior should be seen as particularly important for at least three reasons: 1.the experiences of tourist regions affected by overtourism indicate a growing need for skilful management of tourist flows, which is possible only when we know the current course of their movement and have access to real-time data; 2. the movement of people (not only in tourism space) has become particularly important due to the experiences of the COVID 19 pandemic and the rapid need for tools to determine the number of possible social contacts; 3.discussion about the threat to privacy related to the widespread use of mobile devices requires reliable foundations - the material contained in the reviewed work clearly shows that technological solutions are twofold: extraordinary information resources inevitably mean an increase in surveillance.
The research has been carried out and described with due diligence, and its results and the possibility of applying a similar methodology in other areas of activity make it possible to highly appreciate the scientific and practical level of the study.

Response: Thank you very much for your recognition and affirmation. Tourists' spatio-temporal behavior really deserves more attention, especially in the context of the influenza pandemic. I will continue to treat academic work with a rigorous research attitude and sincerely hope to have the opportunity to cooperate with you in the future

The work addresses an interesting topic, basically the utility of big datain the study of the space-time behavior of tourists. but I must point out
that there are some aspects that the authors should modify.
First, in relation to the title, please put in parentheses the city where
the park is. e.g. "Understanding.....: A case study of Yuanmingyuan Park
(Beijing, China)".
Second, Figures and Tables should include thee source, even when it
reflects own contributions.
Third, the authors use the concept of open data ... it is correct, but
incomprehensibly they do not use that of big data until the conclusions
when I think it is the most accurate term with any of the sources they
refer to (i. e. flick).
Fourth, In the introduction too much space is devoted to explaining the
benefits (and limitations) of the use of GPS trajectory data ...
a question that they come to repeat in the data section. on the contrary,
the objectives of the research deserve little treatment, when it is the
core of the research according to the title of the paper ... in fact,
they are much better expressed in the abstract. In conclusion, I beg that
you limit the space in the introduction devoted to the method of data
collection and expand that devoted to objectives.
Fifth, the equation on page six shoud include the description ot the
notation.
