Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

Authors described an enhanced modular multilevel converter. Authros successed in the rigours description of the system under both therotical and experimental point of view. The overall structure of the articles is scientifically sound and fullfilled the requirements for pubblication after minor revisions.

Some minor change that could be improved the manuscript are listed below

1) Authors did not report the affiliations

2) PLease do not use acronyms in the abstract. Change it accordingly.

3) Enhabce the introduction. At the present moment is very short.

4) Define MV cell.

5) When you use an acronym (table, equations) please define it.

6) Figure 5 c is very hard to read due to the superimposed lines. PLease define the mean of line by line.

Reviewer 2 Report

The paper title as given is, "Novel Enhanced Modular Multilevel Converter for
High-Voltage Direct Current Transpiration Systems".  The reviewer encourages the authors to rethink the use of "Transpiration" in the title, which is not specified in the rest of the paper.

The paper is well organized and the EMMC conclusions as superior are supported.

The paper needs minor English clarification.  Line numbers would have been helpful for the reviewers to be able to direct the authors to points of correction.  While the 11 references are a good overview, for the final comprehensive paper, closer to 20 references should be included.

Without line numbers, the reviewer will give examples of areas for improvement:

Introduction:  The FB chain-links
generate the needed voltage harmonics to cancel that existed inthe voltage generated by the HB chain-links.

Section II:

A. FB chain-link:.

WhileFig. 2 (b)

can be expressed in term

C. SIC-MOSFET, should be SiC-MOSFET, as throughout

Conclusions - Rewrite: This paper has presented the EMMC, which aims to address the main shortcomings of the conventional HB-MMC that
employs relatively low number of MV cells per arm such as
inferior ac and dc side waveforms compared its counterpart
that uses large number of cells per arm.

Reviewer 3 Report

  • Quality of figures should improve.
  • in the next versions, the main contributions should be indicated. In general the paper include very well known concepts. The topology proposed is very well known and has been presented in different papers and books. Respect to the modulation, the concept of NLM is very well known.
  •  Number of references is low.

Round 2

Reviewer 3 Report

- This reviewer proposes a rejection of the paper, because he considers that the proposed topology is not novel, it is already patented, presented in different research works and even used at an industrial level.
In my opinion, I would rewrite the paper, changing the title, and focusing on design issues, or algorithms to improve controllability, or on comparative studies with other topologies.

- Please, I recommend you to change the title in the subjet, there is a mistake.
