Gaze-Angle Variation
The Unifying Hypothesis
- For static fixation, IN intrinsic saccades are always corrective in their direction, and two types accurately foveate the target (foveating saccades and foveating fast phases);
- Spontaneous changes in slow-phase direction/acceleration occur in the absence of saccades;
- After IN damping (e.g., due to inattention), new slow phases begin without a preceding saccade;
- Gaze-angle variation of IN slow phases (amplitude or direction) is independent of the presence or amplitudes of saccades;
- Voluntary saccades do not alter the amplitude or direction of IN slow phases and lead to accurate target foveation.
