Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

This Special Issue of Religions seeks to highlight the diversity of contemplative practices and spiritualities across religious and a-religious traditions for the purposes of proposing transformed ways of embodying and engaging the sacred in the world amidst multiple crises. We invite you to consider with us: what do our present crises demand us to (re)consider in our spiritual practices? The topic of ‘Embodied and Relational Spiritualities in an Age of Multiple Crises’ aims to engage discourses of mysticism, spirituality, and formation with special attention to those practices and experiences which have been marginalized due to histories and legacies of anthropocentrism, colonization, and white supremacy. The goal of this issue is to consider the intersections of embodied and relational spiritual practices within the context of global a/religious diversity, from both philosophical and practical perspectives, employing a wide range of methodologies. Importantly, this volume will recognize the need for increased attention to this area within our moment, which has witnessed a multitude of ecological, institutional, and social challenges, including the rise of nationalist, religious, and race-based supremacies.

I am writing to invite your contribution to a Special Issue of Religions, which will focus on “Embodied and Relational Spiritualities in an Age of Multiple Crises”. With this topic, we are interested in engaging the lacunae that can be seen in discourses on contemplative practices that have overlooked the importance of the consequences stemming from colonization, white supremacy, and anthropocentrism.

We request that, prior to submitting a manuscript, interested authors initially submit a proposed title and an abstract of 400–600 words summarizing their intended contribution. Please send it to the guest editors (ayong@cst.edu/bayo@bayoakomolafe.net) or to Religions editorial office (religions@mdpi.com). Abstracts will be reviewed by the guest editors for the purposes of ensuring proper fit within the scope of the Special Issue. Full manuscripts will undergo double-blind peer-review.
