Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The Social Internet of Things (SIoT) refers to the convergence of the Internet of Things and Social Networking paradigms for the creation of social networks in which things are nodes that establish social links as humans do. This concept has become a hot topic in academia research thanks to the benefits deriving from the potentials of the social networks within the IoT domain, such as simplification in the navigability of a dynamic network of billions of objects, robustness in the management of the trustworthiness of objects when providing information and services, and efficiency in the dynamic discovery of services and information.

The social interaction among SIoT objects contributes a huge volume of data to be processed and used by various applications, such as social VANET, social connected health, SIoT-based recommendation service, traffic service, policing, energy management, etc. in the area of smart cities, smart homes, smart grid, and smart factories to satisfy human needs, interests, and objectives. Such a dynamic landscape with billions of social communities of objects and devices requires new models, theories, and approaches of interaction and collaboration based on the experience people have already gained in the social networking domain over the past few years.

This Special Issue aims to highlight the latest research results and advances on technologies for sensors and wireless networks for SIoT-oriented applications. You are therefore invited to submit original papers presenting significant advances with respect to the state of the art in the following topics, which include but are not limited to:

  • Active and collaborative sensing in the SIoT
  • Social content distribution in the SIoT
  • Cognitive data processing in the SIoT
  • Data collection, organization, and dissemination methods in the SIoT
  • Service discovery method and technology of the SIoT
  • Link selection method and technology of the SIoT
  • Trust management method and technology of the SIoT
  • Community discovery method and technology of the SIoT
  • Deployment and field testing in the SIoT
  • Smart environments
  • SIoT application in smart home systems
  • SIoT application in vehicular information systems
  • SIoT application in hospital information systems

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Sensors is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.

Benefits of Publishing in a Special Issue

  • Ease of navigation: Grouping papers by topic helps scholars navigate broad scope journals more efficiently.
  • Greater discoverability: Special Issues support the reach and impact of scientific research. Articles in Special Issues are more discoverable and cited more frequently.
  • Expansion of research network: Special Issues facilitate connections among authors, fostering scientific collaborations.
  • External promotion: Articles in Special Issues are often promoted through the journal's social media, increasing their visibility.
  • Reprint: MDPI Books provides the opportunity to republish successful Special Issues in book format, both online and in print.
