Pseudolite (PL) positioning technology is one of the effective methods to achieve high-precision indoor positioning. The Distributed Array Pseudolite System (DAPLS) is a ground-based augmentation architecture designed to provide high-precision positioning in GNSS-denied or indoor environments. However, maintaining the stability and integrity of pseudolite signals in distributed deployments remains a significant challenge. To address this, a Pseudolite Monitoring Station (PMS) was developed for real-time signal observation, performance evaluation, and anomaly detection. The proposed PMS integrates a multi-channel front-end, signal-processing engine, and monitoring algorithms capable of continuous assessment across three hierarchical levels: Signal Quality Monitoring (SQM), Receiver Processing Monitoring (RPM), and Measurement Quality Monitoring (MQM). To integrate multi-domain monitoring results, a Composite Quality Index (CQI) model is introduced, combining normalized sub-scores through weighted fusion to reflect overall system integrity. A comprehensive Signal Quality Assessment (SQA) framework is further introduced, including four dimensions of evaluation: constellation status, time reference, spatial coordinate reference, and signal anomaly detection. An indoor DAPLS experiment was conducted within a laboratory-level test field. The system comprised three pseudolite transmitter arrays (six transmitters each) and a central monitoring station. Experimental results showed stable synchronization within ±5 ns, coordinate accuracy within 0.2 m, and consistently high signal quality. The monitoring station effectively detected minor signal distortions and synchronization deviations, confirming its diagnostic precision and robustness. This study demonstrates a complete monitoring and evaluation framework for DAPLS, enabling both system-level quality assurance and signal integrity monitoring. The proposed PMS and SQA methods provide essential tools for future deployment of pseudolite-based indoor positioning and timing systems. Full article

Spoofing detection is critical for GNSS security. To address the issues of low detection rates and insufficient coverage in traditional methods, this study proposes an eye diagram detection method based on the multiscale Canny algorithm with minimum misjudgment probability (EDDM-MSC-MMP). Unlike conventional correlation peak distortion detection techniques, the proposed method uses the MSC-MMP algorithm to perform multiscale edge extraction from the eye diagram generated from the receiver’s correlation values. It then calculates the image threshold using minimum misjudgment probability to ensure the accuracy of the eye diagram’s edges. This enables the accurate detection of subtle changes in the eye diagram, leading to the better identification of spoofing signals. The results show that the MSC-MMP outperforms traditional edge extraction algorithms by over 0.072 in terms of the optimal dataset scale F score (ODS-F). Compared to signal quality monitoring (SQM) and Carrier-to-Noise Ratio methods, the EDDM-MSC-MMP method increases spoofing detection coverage by over 60%, achieving the highest detection rate in the TEXBAT dataset. Overall, the EDDM-MSC-MMP method improves the reliability and coverage of spoofing detection, providing an effective solution for GNSS spoofing detection. Full article

A distinctive feature of modern Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) signals is that they transmit multiple signal components at the same carrier frequencies. The idea of joints across the signal channels from the same carrier frequency and even across different frequencies has been presented in many studies for tracking purposes. Carrier joint tracking is required on the premise that the frequency and phase relationship between signals are nominal values, and the bias of carrier characteristics between signals is drowned in noise as the signal reaches the ground, which requires high-gain receiving equipment to restore the original signal. The space signal-quality monitoring and evaluation system built by the National Timing Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences is based on a 40 m dish antenna, which can automatically track a single satellite and achieve a high-fidelity reception of navigation signals to a certain extent, realizing fine signal quality monitoring (SQM) of GNSS satellites. Based on this platform, we discuss four types of time distributions of the combined signals among different signal components and provide a method to estimate the carrier characteristic bias between GNSS signals. We derived the correction method of carrier characteristic bias in the joint reception by the joint tracking mathematical model. Under the conditions of narrow correlation and unobstructed case, the carrier characteristic deviation does not vary significantly with the correlator interval and the satellite elevation angle. Based on the results of stability analysis, it is recommended that the receivers should update the carrier frequency bias correction number of the intra-frequency signal and carrier phase bias correction number of the intra-frequency signal monthly. The carrier phase deviation correction number of the inter-frequency signal is performed daily. The measured data from satellites show that the phase accumulation error of the joint tracking carrier loop can be eliminated to achieve long-term stable tracking after frequency bias correction. After the carrier phase bias correction, the joint positioning accuracy of the B2a and B2b signals was improved by 0.81%, and those of the B1C, L1C, E1C, and B2a signals were improved by 0.35%, 0.04%, 0.20%, and 0.11%, respectively. The positioning accuracy improvement effect of inter-frequency signals was greater than that of intra-frequency signals after carrier phase correction. Full article

To guarantee the integrity of a global navigation satellite system (GNSS) for safety-critical users, a satellite-based augmentation system (SBAS) makes use of the integrity monitoring architecture, of which the signal quality monitor (SQM) is an important component to address the potential risks caused by satellite-induced signal anomalies. Due to the introduction of dual-frequency multi-constellation (DFMC) techniques in 2025, the ranging uncertainty will be reduced by the elimination of first-order ionospheric delay, but the biases measured in each individual signal will be inflated by the ionosphere-free combinations. Moreover, multiple modulations of DFMC signals might introduce applicability uncertainty of a traditional SQM method that has been protecting GPS L1C/A signal only. Thus, higher requirements are put forward for future SQM methods in detection sensitivity and modulation independence. This paper first proposes a design methodology for the SQM algorithm for BDS B1C/B2a signals, which could be easily extended to the DF combinations of other GNSS core constellations. Then, by comparing the performances of SQM baseline algorithms based on traditional multi-correlator and emerging chip domain observables (CDOs), respectively, the superiority of CDO-based SQM is declared. Detailed design iterations are further discussed, including the algorithm practicalization with optimizing code-phase bin length and lowering sampling frequency, as well as the metric simplification, to promote the overall performance while preserving a lower implementation complexity. Ultimately, a CDO-based SQM algorithm for BDS B1C/B2a signals is reached, which would be considered as an effective candidate in new generation DFMC SBASs. Full article

Traction spoofing is an important component of Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) intermediate attacks, and the traction scheme directly determines the concealment of spoofing. However, spoofing via conventional traction strategies can be easily detected using Time of Arrival (TOA) and power detection. Based on a BPSK-modulated signal, a novel traction strategy using traction code is proposed to suppress part of the authentication signal and form an ideal correlation peak. This strategy was modeled and simulated to verify its theoretical feasibility. Effective spoofing data were generated based on the signal generation software to verify the spoofing effect with the reception of the software receiver. It can be inferred that no significant distortion occurred throughout the traction process, and the value range of the traction speed was expanded. The received results in different scenarios demonstrated that the observations’ Root-Mean-Square Error (RMSE) percentage change in the proposed strategy is significantly better than those of conventional strategies. A Ratio Test was also performed, verifying that the strategy can bypass Signal Quality Monitoring (SQM) detection. Meanwhile, the proposed strategy remained effective when the C/N0 increased to 60 dBHz. In summary, the proposed strategy exhibits destructiveness, concealment, and adaptability on the battlefield. High-precision systems such as civil aviation have put forward higher requirements for navigation systems, including indicators such as accuracy and integrity. Signal distortions and evil waveforms (EWF) generated by the signal-generating hardware on the satellite can severely affect the cross-correlation function of the signal, thereby affecting the integrity of the navigation system. With the further development of the BeiDou Navigation System (BDS), the types of signal distortion are subdivided into three types: analog distortion, subcarrier distortion, and PN code distortion. Traditional multi-correlator methods are no longer applicable under the requirements of modern navigation systems. In this paper, a machine learning-based BeiDou B1C signal anomaly monitoring algorithm is proposed. We detected and classified the signals using a quadratic discriminant analysis (QDA) method. The results show that our method can accurately classify the distortion types under the condition that the accuracy of distortion detection can be greatly improved. Meanwhile, our method is also highly effective and robust. Full article

The Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) becomes vulnerable in a challenging environment, among which spoofing is the most dangerous threat. Meaconing, as the most convenient way to conduct spoofing, is widely studied around the world, and also leads to lots of research into corresponding anti-spoofing techniques. This paper develops a semi-hardware meaconing platform and proposes a novel GPS meaconing spoofing detection method based on Improved Ratio combined with Carrier-to-noise Moving variance (C/N0MV). The effectiveness has been validated theoretically and experimentally. The proposed method is proven useful when the meaconing signal has 5 dB power gain over the authentic signal, presenting 98% detection rate whereas the classic Signal quality monitoring (SQM) method with the Ratio metric presents only 30%. The performance of Signal Quality Monitoring (SQM) techniques under different multipath scenarios is analyzed. First, SQM variation profiles are investigated as critical requirements in evaluating the theoretical performance of SQM metrics. The sensitivity and effectiveness of SQM approaches for multipath detection and mitigation are then defined and analyzed by comparing SQM profiles and multipath error envelopes for different discriminators. Analytical discussions includes two discriminator strategies, namely narrow and high resolution correlator techniques for BPSK(1), and BOC(1,1) signaling schemes. Data analysis is also carried out for static and kinematic scenarios to validate the SQM profiles and examine SQM performance in actual multipath environments. Results show that although SQM is sensitive to medium and long-delay multipath, its effectiveness in mitigating these ranges of multipath errors varies based on tracking strategy and signaling scheme. For short-delay multipath scenarios, the multipath effect on pseudorange measurements remains mostly undetected due to the low sensitivity of SQM metrics. Full article
