Background/Objectives: With aging linked to increased oral health conditions, the communication skills of dental professionals are vital to ensure patient satisfaction and improve the quality of geriatric dental care. This cross-sectional study evaluated geriatric patients’ satisfaction with communication at a university dental clinic, comparing interactions with dentists and fifth-year dental students. Methods: A self-report questionnaire was administered to 111 patients, assessing sociodemographic data, general health, and satisfaction across six communication dimensions: verbal and nonverbal communication, empathy, respect, problem-solving, and support materials. The data were analyzed using Mann–Whitney U tests (α = 0.05). Results: The geriatric patients exhibited higher levels of satisfaction when interacting with dentists compared to students, particularly in the domains of nonverbal communication (p = 0.007), empathy (p = 0.035), and respect (p = 0.017). However, no statistically significant differences (p > 0.05) were observed in terms of verbal communication, problem-solving, and support materials. Conclusions: The geriatric patients demonstrated greater satisfaction with interactions with practicing dentists. These findings indicate that an attending dentist’s clinical experience enhances interpersonal interactions with geriatric patients. Therefore, developing the interpersonal skills of future dentistry professionals, as well as adapting communication to the needs of the elderly, is essential to provide more satisfactory experiences in geriatric dental care. Electrospun nanofiber-based triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) have emerged as a highly promising class of self-powered sensors for a broad range of applications, particularly in intelligent sensing technologies. By combining the advantages of electrospinning and triboelectric nanogenerators, these sensors offer superior characteristics such as high sensitivity, mechanical flexibility, lightweight structure, and biocompatibility, enabling their integration into wearable electronics and biomedical interfaces. This review presents a comprehensive overview of recent progress in electrospun nanofiber-based TENGs, covering their working principles, operating modes, and material composition. Both pure polymer and composite nanofibers are discussed, along with various electrospinning techniques that enable control over morphology and performance at the nanoscale. We explore their practical implementations in both contact-type and non-contact-type sensing, such as human–machine interaction, physiological signal monitoring, gesture recognition, and voice detection. These applications demonstrate the potential of TENGs to enable intelligent, low-power, and real-time sensing systems. Furthermore, this paper points out critical challenges and future directions, including durability under long-term operation, scalable and cost-effective fabrication, and seamless integration with wireless communication and artificial intelligence technologies. With ongoing advancements in nanomaterials, fabrication techniques, and system-level integration, electrospun nanofiber-based TENGs are expected to play a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of self-powered, intelligent sensing platforms across diverse fields such as healthcare, environmental monitoring, robotics, and smart wearable systems. The Impact of Digital Technology Use on Teaching Quality in University Physical Education: An Interpretable Machine Learning Approach

Amid the ongoing digital transformation of higher education, increasing attention has been paid to the impact of digital technologies on teaching quality—particularly in physical education settings that require high levels of interaction and physical engagement. This study examined 1158 university students across China using a cross-sectional design, integrating interpretable machine learning models with structural equation modeling to systematically assess how the frequency of use of seven common digital technologies influences teaching quality in physical education classes. The study also investigated the mediating roles of perceived teacher support and academic self-efficacy. Nine machine learning models and logistic regression analyses were conducted to predict teaching quality, employing feature permutation importance and SHapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP) to evaluate the relative contribution of each digital tool. Results identified multimedia courseware, e-textbooks, and question banks as the most influential predictors of teaching quality. The SHAP analysis further revealed that management software, educational websites, and multimedia materials had significant positive effects and exhibited synergistic interactions in improving teaching outcomes. Structural equation modeling showed that digital technology use had a significant direct positive effect on teaching quality (B = 0.347, p < 0.001). Moreover, perceived teacher support and academic self-efficacy not only served as independent mediators (95% CI = [0.146, 0.226], p < 0.001; 95% CI = [0.024, 0.063], p < 0.001) but also functioned as a chain mediating effect (95% CI = [0.036, 0.083], p < 0.001). This study is the first to integrate interpretable machine learning with structural modeling to elucidate the mechanisms through which digital technologies influence teaching quality in university-level physical education. The findings underscore the critical mediating roles of teacher support and student self-efficacy, providing both theoretical contributions and practical implications for enhancing digital pedagogy in higher education. Background: Subjective socioeconomic status (SES) is a powerful determinant of health and well-being, capturing individuals’ perceptions of their material conditions and security. While higher perceived financial and basic needs security are generally linked to better health outcomes, little is known about how these associations differ across global contexts. Drawing on data from 23 countries, this study tests whether these relationships are systematically weaker in Global South countries. Methods: Cross-sectional data from Wave 1 of the Global Flourishing Study (n = 207,000) were used to examine associations between subjective SES indicators—financial security and security in basic needs (food, housing, safety)—and two outcomes: self-rated physical health and mental health. All variables were measured on 0–10 scales. Linear regression models were estimated separately by Global South and Global North country status, adjusting for age and sex. Global South classification was based on standard development and geopolitical frameworks. Results: In both global regions, individuals with higher perceived financial and basic needs security reported significantly better mental and physical health. However, the strength of these associations was consistently weaker in Global South countries. Interaction terms confirmed that Global South status moderated the association between subjective SES and health outcomes. Conclusions: These findings suggest global-scale “diminished returns” of subjective SES on health, echoing patterns previously observed within countries. Structural inequalities, weaker public systems, and contextual adversity may dilute the health benefits of perceived security in Global South settings. Global health equity efforts must therefore move beyond individual-level interventions to address the broader systems that constrain the translation of socioeconomic resources into health. A new concept of a 3D volumetric module, made up of six plane stiffened self-compacting fiber-reinforced concrete (SFRC) panels, is here studied. Experimental campaigns are carried out on SFRC material and on the thin-slab structures used for this modular concept. The high volume of steel fibers (80 kg/m3) used in the formulation of this concrete allow a positive strain hardening to be obtained in the post-cracking regime observed on the bending characterization tests. The high mechanical material characteristics, obtained both in tension and compression, allow a significant decrease in the module slabs’ thickness. The tests carried out on the 7 cm thick slab demonstrate a high load-bearing capacity and ductility under bending loading; this is also the case for shear loading configuration, although without any shear reinforcements. Numerical simulations of the material mechanical tests were conducted using Abaqus code; the results corroborate the experimental findings. Then, simulations were also conducted at the structural level, mainly to evaluate the behavior and the bearing capacity of the thin 3D module stiffened slabs. Finally, knowing that the concrete module truck transport can be a weak point, the decelerations induced during transportation were characterized and the integrity of the largest 3D module was demonstrated. Disordered Eating Behaviors, Perceived Stress and Insomnia During Academic Exams: A Study Among University Students

Background and Objectives: During exam sessions, many students experience high levels of stress caused by the large volume of material to study, tight deadlines, and pressure to achieve top grades. This study aimed to examine the relationship between academic stress, sleep disturbances, and eating behaviors by using validated questionnaires administered to a student sample. As stress levels increased, the data revealed a higher frequency of insomnia symptoms and disordered eating, including behaviors such as compulsive eating and irregular meal patterns. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional, correlational study was conducted on a convenience sample of 317 university students from various academic centers across Romania. Participants were recruited via online distribution of a self-administered questionnaire during a four-month period, including exam sessions. The survey included the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS), the Insomnia Severity Index (ISI), and the Eating Disorder Examination Questionnaire (EDE-Q), alongside additional items assessing perceived links between stress, sleep, and eating behaviors, and the use of medication. Data were analyzed using SPSS with Spearman correlations, t-tests, and linear regression. Results: Statistical analyses revealed significant and positive associations between perceived stress levels and insomnia, as indicated by Spearman’s correlation (p < 0.01). A similar significant correlation was identified between perceived stress and disordered eating behaviors among students. Specifically, the feeling of being overwhelmed by academic workload showed a strong positive correlation with a lack of control over eating behaviors (r = 0.568). Furthermore, linear regression analysis confirmed a significant predictive relationship between feeling overwhelmed and the tendency to eat excessively beyond initial intentions, with a standardized regression coefficient B = 0.581 (p < 0.001). A separate regression analysis focusing on exam-related stress and episodes of compulsive eating behavior demonstrated a comparable result (B = 0.573, p < 0.001), indicating a robust positive association. Additionally, independent samples t-tests demonstrated that students experiencing high levels of stress during the exam period reported significantly greater difficulties with sleep initiation and higher levels of disordered eating compared to their peers with lower stress levels. The difference in insomnia scores was highly significant (t = 11.516, p < 0.001), as was the difference in eating behavior scores (t = 10.931, p < 0.001). Conclusions: These findings underscore the need for emotional support services and effective stress management strategies, enabling students to navigate academic demands without compromising their mental or physical well-being. Background and Objectives: The associations between body appreciation, weight status, and weight management practices are influenced by societal, cultural, and psychological factors. Studies indicated that a higher level of body appreciation is linked to lower engagement in unhealthy weight management practices. The transition from high school to university is a significant life event, often accompanied by substantial lifestyle changes that can affect students’ body image and weight-related behaviours. This study aimed to assess the associations between body appreciation, weight status, and weight management behaviours among first-year students at four universities of applied sciences in Lithuania. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional online survey was conducted in 2022 among 709 first-year students (216 males and 493 females) at the four largest universities of applied sciences in Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipėda, and Šiauliai. Body appreciation was assessed using the Body Appreciation Scale-2 (BAS-2), whilst BMI was calculated from self-reported height and weight. Students were asked about their weight management practices. Logistic regression analysis was applied to evaluate associations between weight management behaviours, body appreciation, and weight status. Results: Female students had a significantly lower median BMI (21.1 kg/m2) than males (23.3 kg/m2) but were more likely to perceive themselves as overweight (34.5% vs. 17.1%), worry about gaining weight (40.6% vs. 11.6%), and attempt weight loss (52.5% vs. 23.6%) (all p < 0.001). Higher BAS scores were associated with greater accuracy in weight perception, higher satisfaction with body weight, and fewer concerns about weight gain. Students with lower BAS scores were more likely to engage in harmful weight-control behaviours such as smoking (OR = 0.07; 95% CI: 0.02–0.25 for high vs. low BAS) and were more strongly influenced by media beauty standards and dissatisfaction with appearance. Conclusions: Body appreciation is linked to healthier weight perceptions and behaviours. Interventions that enhance body appreciation may help reduce body dissatisfaction and prevent unhealthy weight control practices, especially among female students. Full article

Social media influencers have made materialism more accessible and desirable, shaping how followers view success, self-worth, and consumption. This study investigates the influence of materialistic messages promoted by lifestyle influencers on their followers’ emotions, self-concept, and consumer behavior, using Symbolic Interactionism as the theoretical framework. The research addresses three key questions: motivations for follower engagement, emotional effects of materialistic content, and how such messages appear to influence purchasing decisions. Using a qualitative approach, the study focuses on 15 Malaysian young adults who actively engage with lifestyle influencers. Data were analyzed using Braun and Clarke’s thematic analysis framework. Six key themes emerged: (1) admiration and aspiration; (2) feelings of inadequacy and envy; (3) rationalization of impulsive purchases; (4) symbolic consumption and self-identity; (5) emotional ambivalence; and (6) distancing and self-regulation. The findings suggest that influencers serve not only as marketing agents but as symbolic figures whose lifestyles become templates for success and self-worth. Participants engaged with this content in emotionally complex ways, simultaneously admiring and resisting the ideals presented. Their consumption behaviors appeared to be shaped by perceived social meanings attached to material goods. The study provides implications for media literacy programs, influencer marketing practices, and platform-level interventions that consider the emotional and identity-based dimensions of materialistic consumption. Composite solid propellants, which serve as the core energetic materials in aerospace and military propulsion systems, necessitate tailored enhancement of their mechanical properties to ensure operational safety and stability. A critical challenge involves elucidating the interfacial interactions among the multiple propellant components (≥6 components, including the polymer binder HTPB, curing agent IPDI, oxidizer particles AP/Al, bonding agents MAPO/T313, plasticizer DOS, etc.) and their influence on crosslinked network formation. In this study, we propose an integrated computational framework that combines coarse-grained simulations with reactive force fields to investigate these complex interactions at the molecular level. Our approach successfully elucidates the two-step reaction mechanism propagating along the AP interface in multicomponent propellants, comprising interfacial self-polymerization of bonding agents followed by the participation of curing agents in crosslinked network formation. Furthermore, we assess the mechanical performance through tensile simulations, systematically investigating both defect formation near the interface and the influence of key parameters, including the self-polymerization time, HTPB chain length, and IPDI content. Our results indicate that the rational selection of parameters enables the optimization of mechanical properties (e.g., ~20% synchronous improvement in tensile modulus and strength, achieved by selecting a side-chain ratio of 20%, a DOS molar ratio of 2.5%, a MAPO:T313 ratio of 1:2, a self-polymerization MAPO time of 260 ns, etc.). Overall, this study provides molecular-level insights into the structure–property relationships of composite propellants and offers a valuable computational framework for guided formulation optimization in propellant manufacturing. Salinity has significant impacts on crops, a problem that is exacerbated under climate change conditions. For this reason, research is focused on possible ways to mitigate the impacts by adapting cultivation methods such as administering appropriate materials or formulations to plants. Therefore, this study investigated the effects of calcium (Ca2+) supplementation on the growth, physiology, and chemical composition of pomegranate plants (Punica granatum L. cv. ‘Wonderful’) grown under salinity stress. Young self-rooted plants were cultivated in pots containing a sand/perlite (1:1) mixture and irrigated with Hoagland’s nutrient solution amended with NaCl (0, 60, or 120 mM) and CaCl2·2H2O (0 or 10 mM). Salinity significantly reduced the fresh and dry weight of aboveground tissues; photosynthetic performance; chlorophyll content; and potassium (K), calcium (Ca), and magnesium (Mg) concentrations, particularly under high NaCl levels. Sodium (Na) accumulation increased in all plant parts, while nitrogen (N), manganese (Mn), and zinc (Zn) concentrations were elevated in basal leaves. Calcium supplementation mitigated several of these adverse effects, especially under moderate salinity. It helped maintain leaf biomass, supported K+ retention in roots, partially improved chlorophyll concentration, and limited Na+ accumulation in certain tissues. However, Ca2+ application did not consistently reverse the negative impacts of severe salinity (120 mM NaCl), and in some cases, interactions between Ca2+ and other nutrients such as Mg2+ were antagonistic. These findings confirm the inherent salt tolerance of pomegranate and demonstrate that calcium plays a partially protective role under salinity, particularly at moderate stress levels. Further research is needed to optimize Ca2+ use in saline agriculture and enhance sustainable cultivation of pomegranate in salt-affected soils. Full article

Background: Violence against healthcare professionals is a growing public health concern. In Spain, the National Observatory of Aggressions recorded 16,866 cases in 2024, marking a 103.06% increase since 2017. This phenomenon has intensified in recent years, with serious repercussions for both the physical and psychological well-being of healthcare workers, as well as for the quality of care provided. Objectives: This descriptive study examines the knowledge, perceptions, and experiences of workplace aggression among undergraduate students at the University School of Nursing of the Nuestra Señora de Candelaria University Hospital. Materials and Methods: A self-administered ad hoc questionnaire was distributed to 266 students across all academic years to assess their knowledge and to explore their perceptions and experiences of aggression witnessed or experienced during clinical placements. This study was guided by the Strengthening the Reporting of Observational Studies in Epidemiology (STROBE) guidelines. Results: The findings revealed significant educational gaps among students regarding how to manage aggressive situations, as well as high levels of concern and an aggression exposure rate exceeding 30%. A statistically significant association was also observed in relation to the academic year. Conclusions: This study provides a foundation for the development of specific training programmes tailored to the needs identified and for enhancing occupational safety in healthcare settings. Periodontal Disease Elevates IL-6 Levels During Initial Symptoms of COVID-19

Background: Research suggests that periodontal disease may exacerbate symptoms of coronavirus disease (COVID-19). The etiology of this condition has been associated with cytokines such as IL-6. The inflammatory response in COVID-19 can be partially attributed to periodontopathic bacteria and their metabolites. Furthermore, the aspiration of periodontal pathogens and the stimulation of ACE2 expression may lead to an increased production of inflammatory cytokines, potentially worsening COVID-19 symptoms in patients with periodontitis. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted involving patients with both periodontal disease and COVID-19, patients with either condition alone, and healthy subjects. All participants underwent RT-PCR testing for SARS-CoV-2, and a self-reported periodontal disease (Self-RPD) questionnaire was administered. Saliva samples were collected to assess IL-6 levels using the ELISA technique. Results: A total of 28 patients were classified as COVID-19/Self-RPD+, 32 patients had only COVID-19, 25 were Self-RPD+ only, and 17 were healthy controls. The COVID-19/Self-RPD+ group frequently exhibited symptoms such as fever, body aches, nasal congestion, and olfactory disturbances and showed significantly higher IL-6 levels compared to the other groups. Cough with phlegm was significantly more frequent in the COVID-19-only group. Additionally, IL-6 levels in saliva were elevated in patients with nasal congestion and in those with 11 or more symptoms in the Self-RPD+ group. Full article

Background: Liberia is among the 30 countries with a high burden of tuberculosis worldwide. Health sciences students, who are future health professionals, have essential roles in curtailing the spread of TB. This study aims to evaluate the knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) of tuberculosis (TB) among health sciences students. Methods: This study used a quantitative cross-sectional design to assess Medical, Pharmacy, and Public Health students at the University of Liberia’s KAP regarding TB using a modified previously used self-administered questionnaire reviewed by subject experts from 1 April 2025 to 23 April 2025. SPSS 26 was used for analysis. Descriptive statistics, Mann–Whitney, Kruskal–Wallis, and multivariate logistic regression tests were used for analysis. Results: In total, 630 students participated, of which 51.7% were females, 83% were aged 24 or above, 81.6% were single, and 96.7% had never smoked. The KAP levels were 65.9%, 97.3%, and 94.8%, respectively. Higher TB knowledge was significantly associated with being enrolled in the Medical program (OR = 2.20, 95% CI: 1.28–3.76, p < 0.05), being in year 4 and 5 (OR = 1.79, 95% CI: 1.09–2.98, p < 0.05; OR = 2.28, 95% CI: 1.08–4.78, p < 0.05), being unemployed (OR = 1.58, 95% CI: 1.09–2.31, p < 0.05), and having personal acquaintance with individuals diagnosed with TB (OR = 1.64, 95% CI: 1.11–2.42, p < 0.05). Conclusions: The knowledge level among students was good. They had a positive attitude, and their practice levels were good. However, gaps remain in understanding latent TB and proper disinfection methods for TB-related materials. Strengthening the health curriculum to address these specific knowledge gaps is recommended to better align students’ knowledge with their attitudes and practices. Full article

This article examines the energy efficiency and climate impact of various heating methods commonly employed across industrial sectors. Fossil fuel combustion heat sources, which are predominantly employed for industrial heating, contribute significantly to atmospheric pollution and associated asset losses. The electrification of industrial heating has the potential to substantially reduce the total energy consumed in industrial heating processes and significantly mitigate the rate of global warming. Advances in electrical heating technologies are driven by enhanced energy conversion, compactness, and precision control capabilities, ensuring attractive financial payback periods for clean, energy-efficient equipment. These advancements stem from the use of improved performance materials, process optimization, and waste heat utilization practices, particularly at high temperatures. The technical challenges associated with large-scale, heavy-duty electric process heating are addressed through the novel innovations discussed in this article. Electrification and the corresponding energy efficiency improvements reduce the water consumed for industrial steam requirements. The article reviews new technologies that replace conventional process gas heaters and pressure boilers with efficient electric process gas heaters and instant steam generators, operating in the high kilowatt and megawatt power ranges with very high-temperature capabilities. Financial payback calculations for energy-optimized processes are illustrated with examples encompassing a range of comparative energy costs across various temperatures. The economics and implications of waste heat utilization are also examined in this article. Additionally, the role of futuristic, radical technical innovations is evaluated as a sustainable pathway that can significantly lower energy consumption without compromising performance objectives. The potential for a new paradigm of self-organization in processes and final usage objectives is briefly explored for sustainable innovations in thermal engineering and materials development. The policy implications and early adoption of large-scale, energy-efficient thermal electrification are discussed in the context of temperature segmentation for industrial-scale processes and climate-driven asset losses. Policy shifts towards incentivizing energy efficiency at the manufacturing level of heater use are recommended as a pathway for deep decarbonization. Full article

Introduction: This study investigated the effectiveness of e-learning compared to traditional teaching methods in ultrasound education, centring on a focus cardiac ultrasound (FoCUS) course for third-year undergraduate medical students. With the rise of digital teaching methods, it is essential to evaluate their impact on the development of theoretical and practical skills in ultrasound training. Methods: A prospective, randomised, controlled trial was conducted involving two groups of students participating in a one-day FoCUS course delivered in a flipped classroom format. The study group used e-learning resources, while the control group used hard-copy lecture notes. Assessments were conducted at three stages: before the course, during the preparation phase, and after the course. Evaluations included self-assessment surveys, theory tests, and practical exams using direct observation of procedural skills (DOPS) tests. The study group had 15% less practice time compared to the control group. Results: A total of 109 complete datasets (study group, n = 52; control group, n = 57) were analysed. Both groups showed an equivalent initial level of and a continuous and significant (p < 0.01) increase in subjective and objective skills over the evaluated time frame. The study group achieved significantly (p = 0.03) higher results in DOPS (T2) than the control group. No significant differences were found in the total scores of the theory tests (T2 + T3) or DOPS (T3). Both groups rated their teaching materials, motivation, and the course concept in similarly high scale ranges. Conclusions: The findings suggest that e-learning is as effective as traditional methods in developing ultrasound skills and may serve as a viable alternative, even with reduced face-to-face interaction.
