Background and Objectives: Diabetes is a global public health challenge, with increasing prevalence worldwide. The implementation of artificial intelligence (AI) in the management of this condition offers potential benefits in improving healthcare outcomes. This study primarily investigates the barriers and facilitators perceived by healthcare professionals in the adoption of AI. Secondarily, by analyzing both quantitative and qualitative data collected, it aims to support the potential development of AI-based programs for diabetes management, with particular focus on a possible bottom-up approach. Materials and Methods: A scoping review was conducted following PRISMA-ScR guidelines for reporting and registered in the Open Science Framework (OSF) database. The study selection process was conducted in two phases—title/abstract screening and full-text review—independently by three researchers, with a fourth resolving conflicts. Data were extracted and assessed using Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) tools. The included studies were synthesized narratively, combining both quantitative and qualitative analyses to ensure methodological rigor and contextual depth. Results: The adoption of AI tools in diabetes management is influenced by several barriers, including perceived unsatisfactory clinical performance, high costs, issues related to data security and decision-making transparency, as well as limited training among healthcare workers. Key facilitators include improved clinical efficiency, ease of use, time-saving, and organizational support, which contribute to broader acceptance of the technology. Conclusions: The active and continuous involvement of healthcare workers represents a valuable opportunity to develop more effective, reliable, and well-integrated AI solutions in clinical practice. Our findings emphasize the importance of a bottom-up approach and highlight how adequate training and organizational support can help overcome existing barriers, promoting sustainable and equitable innovation aligned with public health priorities. Background/Objectives: This retrospective multicenter study, conducted within the ORCHESTRA Project, investigated SARS-CoV-2 reinfections among 5777 healthcare workers (HCWs) from four University Hospitals (Modena, Verona, Padova and Trieste) in northern Italy, aiming to assess the risk of reinfection and its determinants, comparing the clinical characteristics of reinfections with those of first infections, and examining the impact of preventive measures and vaccination strategies. Methods: HCWs completed an online questionnaire between June and August 2022. The survey collected demographic, occupational, and clinical data, including information on first infections and reinfections. Statistical analyses were performed using SPSS 28.0, through bivariate and multivariate approaches. Results: Response rates were 41.8% for Modena, 39.5% for Verona, 17.9% for Padova, and 17.4% for Trieste. Among the respondents, 4.8% (n = 276) experienced 2 infections and 0.5% (n = 27) reported 3 infections, out of a total of 330 reinfection cases. Additionally, 43.0% (n = 2787) reported only one infection, while 51.5% were never infected. Reinfection rates increased across five study phases (based on the epidemiological context), likely due to the emergence of new SARS-CoV-2 variants. A booster vaccine dose significantly reduced reinfection risk. Higher reinfection risk was found among HCWs aged ≤30 years, those with chronic respiratory diseases, and those working in COVID-19 wards, particularly nurses and allied health professionals. Reinfections were associated with a lower frequency of symptoms both during the period of swab positivity and after a negative swab, as well as with a shorter duration of swab positivity. No significant differences in symptom duration were found between first infections and reinfections. Conclusions: Despite its limitations, the online questionnaire proved a useful tool. Natural infection and vaccination reduced both reinfection risk and symptom severity. Prior infections should be considered in planning vaccination schedules and prioritizing HCWs. Full article

Purpose: Exercise is recommended for survivors of breast cancer to alleviate adverse reactions and reduce the psychological burden. In recent years, however, environmental factors (e.g., pandemics and climate change) have made it difficult to exercise outdoors. Therefore, this study focused on the COVID-19 pandemic in Japan and evaluated the relationship between changes in physical activity (PA) and mental and physical health in breast cancer survivors. Methods: A questionnaire survey was conducted among 345 outpatient female breast cancer survivors aged between 29 and 69 years. The questionnaire was based on the International Physical Activity Questionnaire, the Patient Health Questionnaire-9, the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Core Quality of Life Questionnaire, and the Fear of COVID-19 Scale and included patient characteristics, changes in PA during pandemic restrictions, and needs for exercise support. The analysis categorized PA changes into two groups according to activity levels. The relationship between changes in PA and physical and mental health was evaluated using logistic regression analysis. Results: Patients with decreased PA accounted for 65.5% of the study population. Regardless of their activity level, these patients were aware of an increased susceptibility to COVID-19, showed a fear of the disease and a tendency for depression, and reported low life satisfaction and declined physical function. Of the patients who stopped exercising, 82.9% reported a decline in PA. Compared with those who had never exercised, those who stopped exercising saw their risk of depression increase by 15.6%. There was a high demand for personalized exercise support from healthcare professionals. Conclusions: Regardless of their activity level, decreasing PA during the pandemic decreased mental health and physical function in breast cancer survivors. There was a higher risk of depression among patients who stopped exercising. Because it is possible that similar situations may occur in the future, interventions by healthcare professionals must be considered in order to continue exercise. Full article

Background: Vaccine hesitancy (VH) represents a growing concern among healthcare professionals and students, potentially undermining public health efforts. Nursing, pediatric nursing, and midwifery students are future vaccinators and educators, making it essential to understand their attitudes, knowledge, and confidence toward vaccination. This study aims to assess vaccine-related perceptions and behaviors among these student populations in an Italian university. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted between November 2022 and February 2024 at the University of Rome “Tor Vergata.” A structured, anonymous questionnaire, including the Vaccination Attitudes Examination (VAX) scale, vaccine knowledge items, and sources of information, was administered to students in nursing (n = 205), pediatric nursing (n = 46), and midwifery (n = 21). Statistical analyses included descriptive statistics, ANOVA, post hoc tests, and Mann–Whitney U tests. Results: Among the 272 participants, 20.6% reported refusing at least one recommended vaccine, and 18.4% delayed vaccination for non-medical reasons. Vaccine knowledge and confidence increased significantly with academic progression (p < 0.001). Midwifery students showed both the highest concern for long-term vaccine effects and the greatest confidence in vaccine safety. Institutional and scientific sources were the most trusted, though traditional and non-institutional media also influenced perceptions, particularly among midwifery students. Conclusions: Despite high COVID-19 vaccine uptake, VH persists among health professional students. Discipline-specific patterns highlight the need for early, targeted educational strategies to enhance vaccine literacy and reduce hesitancy. Tailored training may empower future professionals to become informed and credible advocates for vaccination. Full article

This paper aims to discuss the transition of new graduate nurses into the workforce, the preparation provided to equip them through the novice–beginner stage, and the theory–practice conundrum. Background: In Australia, new graduate transition programs have been in existence since the 1990s. While there is widespread acknowledgment that this period is pivotal for new graduate nurses entering the profession, there is a lack of consensus on the definition of best practice to achieve optimal preparation for new graduate nurses transitioning into the workforce. Methods: This discussion paper integrates the nursing literature on this topic with the extensive professional experiences of the authors, who are currently working as clinicians in metropolitan hospitals and hold academic positions at universities. Their insights are informed by the literature sourced from peer-reviewed English language journals, including reviews, empirical studies, and national and international reports. Discussion: Recruiting and retaining nurses presents a multifaceted challenge that requires the development of effective tools and strategies to build a sustainable workforce. Both the literature and the authors’ experiences highlight several key factors influencing the preparedness of new graduates. These factors include workplace culture, the demands placed on new graduates, and the support, education, and training they receive. The perspectives shared in this article offer valuable discussion points that can deepen our understanding of the current issues and contribute to the development of more effective solutions. Background/Objectives: Effective teamwork is crucial for minimizing human error in healthcare settings. Medical teams, typically composed of physicians and nurses, supported by auxiliary professionals, achieve better outcomes when they possess strong collaborative competencies. High-quality teamwork is associated with fewer adverse events and complications and lower mortality rates. Based on this background, the objective of this study is to analyze the perception of non-technical skills and immediate learning outcomes in interprofessional simulation settings based on E-CRM items. Methods: A cross-sectional observational study was conducted involving participants from the official postgraduate Medicine and Nursing programs at the Catholic University of Murcia (UCAM) during the 2024–2025 academic year. Four interprofessional E-CRM simulation sessions were planned, involving randomly assigned groups with proportional representation of medical and nursing students. Teams worked consistently throughout the training and participated in clinical scenarios observed via video transmission by their peers. Post-scenario debriefings followed INACSL guidelines and employed the PEARLS method. Results: Findings indicate that 48.3% of participants had no difficulty identifying the team leader, while 51.7% reported minor difficulty. Role assignment posed moderate-to-high difficulty for 24.1% of respondents. Communication, situation awareness, and early help-seeking were generally managed with ease, though mobilizing resources remained a challenge for 27.5% of participants. Conclusions: This study supports the value of interprofessional education in developing essential competencies for handling urgent, emergency, and high-complexity clinical situations. Strengthening interdisciplinary collaboration contributes to safer, more effective patient care. Full article

Background: Mental health issues among medical students have gained increasing attention globally, with studies indicating a high prevalence of psychological disorders within this population. The use of antidepressants and anti-anxiety medications has become a common response to these mental health challenges. However, it is crucial to understand the extent of their usage and associated effects on students’ mental health and academic performance. This cross-sectional study explored the use of antidepressants and anti-anxiety drugs and their impact on the mental health of medical students in Saudi Arabia. Methods: A cross-sectional survey of 561 medical students from 34 universities was conducted between March and July 2024. An anonymous online questionnaire was used to collect sociodemographic, mental health, and medication usage-related information. Results: Most of the participants were female (71.5%) and aged 21–25 years (62.7%). Approximately 23.8% of them used antidepressants, 5.6% reported using anti-anxiety medications, and 14.0% used both types of medication. Among the medication users, 71.7% were using selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), and 28.3% were using other medications. Adverse drug reactions were reported by 58.8% of the participants, and 39.6% changed drugs with inadequate efficacy. Notably, 49.0% of the respondents who have ever used medications discontinued their medication without consulting a healthcare professional. Despite these challenges, 62.0% of the participants felt that their medications had a positive impact on their academic performance, 73.4% believed that the benefits outweighed the drawbacks, and 76.2% expressed a willingness to continue taking their medication. In particular, 77.6% agreed that treatment with these drugs could prevent mental breakdowns. Sleep duration, physical activity, and family history of psychiatric disorders were significantly associated with medication use, with p values of 0.002, 0.014, and 0.042, respectively. Conclusions: These results shed light on the need to understand the prescribing practices of antidepressant and anti-anxiety drugs among medical students while promoting the appropriate use of these medications among the students. There is a need to incorporate mental health interventions into counseling services and awareness programs to support students. Future longitudinal studies are needed to explore long-term trends. Background: Musculoskeletal disorders significantly affect healthcare professionals, particularly physiotherapists, due to the physical demands of their work. The link between physical ailments and psychological distress is especially prominent in clinical settings. Objectives: To assess the prevalence of work-related low back pain (LBP), stress, anxiety, and depression among physiotherapists in Saudi Arabia, and to identify associated local risk factors. Methods: A cross-sectional study using convenience sampling included 710 licensed physiotherapists across Saudi Arabia. Participants completed an online survey containing demographic data and the validated measures, including the Visual Analog Scale (VAS) for pain, the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI), and the Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale-21 (DASS-21) for psychological distress. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics, chi-square tests, correlation, and regression analyses. Results: Of 710 responses, 697 were valid; 378 physiotherapists reported work-related LBP. The mean pain intensity was 4.6 (SD = 1.6), with 54.2% experiencing moderate to severe disability. Mental health results showed 49.7% had depressive symptoms and 33.9% experienced some level of anxiety. Significant correlations were observed between disability and psychological distress (anxiety: r = 0.382; depression: r = 0.375; stress: r = 0.406; all p < 0.001). Regression analyses indicated psychological distress significantly predicted disability, with R2 values ranging from 0.125 to 0.248, being higher among inpatient physiotherapists. Conclusions: This study reveals a high prevalence of LBP and psychological distress among Saudi physiotherapists, with stress being the strongest predictor of LBP severity. Integrated ergonomic and mental health interventions, including workplace wellness programs and psychological support, are recommended to reduce risks and promote a healthier, more sustainable physiotherapy workforce. The development of Global Positioning System (GPS) technology has contributed in various ways to improving the physical condition of modern football players by enabling the quantification of physical load. Previous studies have reported that the running demands of matches vary depending on playing position and formation. Over the past decade, despite the widespread use of GPS technology, studies that have investigated the running performance of young football players within the 1-4-3-3 formation are particularly limited. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to create the match running profile of playing positions in the 1-4-3-3 formation among high-level youth football players. An additional objective of the study was to compare the running performance of players between the two halves of a match. This study involved 25 football players (Under-19, U19) from the academy of a professional football club. Data were collected from 18 league matches in which the team used the 1-4-3-3 formation. Positions were categorized as Central Defenders (CDs), Side Defenders (SDs), Central Midfielders (CMs), Side Midfielders (SMs), and Forwards (Fs). The players’ movement patterns were monitored using GPS devices and categorized into six speed zones: Zone 1 (0.1–6 km/h), Zone 2 (6.1–12 km/h), Zone 3 (12.1–18 km/h), Zone 4 (18.1–21 km/h), Zone 5 (21.1–24 km/h), and Zone 6 (above 24.1 km/h). The results showed that midfielders covered the greatest total distance (p = 0.001), while SDs covered the most meters at high and maximal speeds (Zones 5 and 6) (p = 0.001). In contrast, CDs covered the least distance at high speeds (p = 0.001), which is attributed to the specific tactical role of their position. A comparison of the two halves revealed a progressive decrease in the distance covered by the players at high speed: distance in Zone 3 decreased from 1139 m to 944 m (p = 0.001), Zone 4 from 251 m to 193 m (p = 0.001), Zone 5 from 144 m to 110 m (p = 0.001), and maximal sprinting (Zone 6) dropped from 104 m to 78 m (p = 0.01). Despite this reduction, the total distance remained relatively stable (first half: 5237 m; second half: 5046 m, p = 0.16), indicating a consistent overall workload but a reduced number of high-speed efforts in the latter stages. The results clearly show that the tactical role of each playing position in the 1-4-3-3 formation, as well as the area of the pitch in which each position operates, significantly affects the running performance profile. This information should be utilized by fitness coaches to tailor physical loads based on playing position. More specifically, players who cover greater distances at high speeds during matches should be prepared for this scenario within the microcycle by performing similar distances during training. It can also be used for better preparing younger players (U17) before transitioning to the U19 level. Knowing the running profile of the next age category, the fitness coach can prepare the players so that by the end of the season, they are approaching the running performance levels of the next group, with the goal of ensuring a smoother transition. Finally, regarding the two halves of the game, it is evident that fitness coaches should train players during the microcycle to maintain high movement intensities even under fatigue. Full article

We aimed to examine the relationship between communication skills, self-efficacy, and sense of coherence among intermediate care nurses. Methods: We conducted an observational, cross-sectional study with 60 intermediate care nurses from three units in a Catalan hospital, Spain. Participants engaged in high-fidelity simulation using geriatric end-of-life scenarios with an ultra-realistic manikin representing a geriatric patient at the end of life. NTSs were measured using validated tools: the Health Professionals Communication Skills Scale (HP-CSS), the General Self-Efficacy Scale, and the Sense of Coherence Questionnaire (OLQ-13). Sessions followed INACSL standards, including prebriefing, simulation, and debriefing phases. Results: Post-simulation outcomes revealed significant gains in interpersonal competencies, with men reporting higher assertiveness (p = 0.015) and greater satisfaction with both the simulation experience (p = 0.003) and the instructor (p = 0.008), underscoring gender-related perceptions in immersive training. Conclusions: Ultra-realistic clinical simulation is effective in enhancing NTS among intermediate care nurses, contributing to improved care quality and clearer professional profiles in geriatric nursing. Background/Objectives: Job stress negatively affects physical and psychological health and can lead to behavioral changes such as unhealthy eating. This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between job stress levels, adherence to the Mediterranean diet, and the phytochemical index (PI). Methods: The study included 200 healthy individuals aged 18–50 working at the Tuzla Gum Factory. Data were collected through demographic and dietary questionnaires, two-day 24-h food records, PI values, and anthropometric measurements. Job stress was assessed using the Job Stress Scale, and Mediterranean diet adherence was assessed with the Mediterranean Diet Adherence Questionnaire. Results: Waist and hip circumference, waist/hip ratio, and BMI were significantly higher in individuals with high levels of job stress (p < 0.01). Unskilled workers reported higher stress than professionals (p < 0.01). Significant differences were found in carbohydrate and fiber intake among males and in energy, protein, carbohydrate, and vitamin A intake among females with varying stress levels (p < 0.01). No significant difference in Mediterranean diet adherence was observed between medium and high stress groups. However, women had higher adherence and PI scores than men (p < 0.01). Diet adherence was better among managers than service-sales and technical staff (p < 0.01). PI scores were higher in medium stress than high stress individuals (p < 0.05) and in those with a higher BMI compared to a normal BMI (p < 0.01). Conclusions: Job stress influences both anthropometric parameters and dietary habits. Effective stress management may improve adherence to the Mediterranean diet and phytochemical intake. Workplace strategies supporting healthy eating behaviors are recommended. Full article

The COVID-19 pandemic fundamentally disrupted assumptions about entrepreneurship, career planning, and professional development. This study explored how the pandemic influenced the entrepreneurial intentions of undergraduate business students in the United States. Using a qualitative methodology based on in-depth interviews with 31 students at a public Midwestern university, the research interpreted student narratives through the lenses of effectuation theory, resilience theory, and the theory of planned behavior. Findings revealed that many participants reframed entrepreneurship as a strategy for navigating economic uncertainty and enhancing personal agency. Students reported valuing adaptability, resourcefulness, and opportunity recognition, often experimenting with side hustles during the pandemic as a means of resilience. Their entrepreneurial thinking shifted from purely economic motivations toward aspirations for flexibility, self-fulfillment, and purposeful work. The study highlights the formative role of crisis contexts in shaping entrepreneurial identity among emerging professionals. It suggests that entrepreneurship education should move beyond traditional models, fostering skills for navigating complexity and building resilience. In doing so, the findings contribute to broader conversations about youth entrepreneurship, post-pandemic career development, and the evolving demands of the labor market in times of disruption. Background: Artificial intelligence (AI) is being increasingly promoted as a means to enhance diagnostic accuracy, to streamline workflows, and to improve overall care quality in primary care. However, empirical evidence on how primary care physicians (PCPs) perceive, engage with, and emotionally respond to AI technologies in everyday clinical settings remains limited. Concerns persist regarding AI’s usability, transparency, and potential impact on professional identity, workload, and the physician–patient relationship. Methods: This qualitative study investigated the lived experiences and perceptions of 28 PCPs practicing in diverse outpatient settings across Germany. Participants were purposively sampled to ensure variation in age, practice characteristics, and digital proficiency. Data were collected through in-depth, semi-structured interviews, which were audio-recorded, transcribed verbatim, and subjected to rigorous thematic analysis employing Mayring’s qualitative content analysis framework. Results: Participants demonstrated a fundamentally ambivalent stance toward AI integration in primary care. Perceived advantages included enhanced diagnostic support, relief from administrative burdens, and facilitation of preventive care. Conversely, physicians reported concerns about workflow disruption due to excessive system prompts, lack of algorithmic transparency, increased cognitive and emotional strain, and perceived threats to clinical autonomy and accountability. The implications for the physician–patient relationship were seen as double-edged: while some believed AI could foster trust through transparent use, others feared depersonalization of care. Crucial prerequisites for successful implementation included transparent and explainable systems, structured training opportunities, clinician involvement in design processes, and seamless integration into clinical routines. Conclusions: Primary care physicians’ engagement with AI is marked by cautious optimism, shaped by both perceived utility and significant concerns. Effective and ethically sound implementation requires co-design approaches that embed clinical expertise, ensure algorithmic transparency, and align AI applications with the realities of primary care workflows. Moreover, foundational AI literacy should be incorporated into undergraduate health professional curricula to equip future clinicians with the competencies necessary for responsible and confident use. These strategies are essential to safeguard professional integrity, support clinician well-being, and maintain the humanistic core of primary care. Full article

Inclusive education emphasizes the right of all students, including those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), to access equitable learning opportunities in mainstream classrooms. This study presents the implementation and evaluation of a school-based intervention within the BATTIE (Bottleneck Analysis and Teacher Trainings for Inclusive Education) project in Greece, aiming to enhance inclusion through differentiated instruction (DI) and a whole school approach. The intervention was conducted across 26 schools and involved 116 educators and 130 students with SEND. A qualitative methodology was employed, utilizing structured classroom observations, field notes, and semi-structured interviews with teachers. The data were thematically analyzed using NVivo 11. Findings indicated notable improvements in student engagement, academic participation, and classroom collaboration, especially among students with SEND. Teachers reported enhanced professional confidence, better understanding of inclusive strategies, and improved collaboration with special education staff. However, limitations in interdisciplinary cooperation—particularly with school psychologists—were identified. This study concludes that sustained professional development, school-wide collaboration, and differentiated instruction are essential for fostering inclusive practices. It underscores the potential of structured, whole school interventions to improve learning environments for diverse student populations and provides insights for educational policy and practice reform. VisRep (Visualisation Report) is an AI-powered system for capturing and structuring the early stages of the visualisation design process. It addresses a critical gap in predesign: the lack of tools that can naturally record, organise, and transform raw ideation, spoken thoughts, sketches, and evolving concepts into polished, shareable outputs. Users engage in talk-aloud sessions through a terminal-style interface supported by intelligent transcription and eleven structured questions that frame intent, audience, and output goals. These inputs are then processed by a large language model (LLM) guided by markdown-based output templates for reports, posters, and slides. The system aligns free-form ideas with structured communication using prompt engineering to ensure clarity, coherence, and visual consistency. VisRep not only automates the generation of professional deliverables but also enhances reflective practice by bridging spontaneous ideation and structured documentation. This paper introduces VisRep’s methodology, interface design, and AI-driven workflow, demonstrating how it improves the fidelity and transparency of the visualisation design process across academic, professional, and creative domains.
