This article advances understanding of the interdisciplinary components of the digital humanities, and how this hybrid field relates to some of its contributing epistemic traditions. It builds its approach by drawing upon recent empirical work on the values expressed within AI research, extending from that work’s focus on justificatory chains in computer science scholarship to explore these and related discursive strategies in a comparative, computational context across corpora drawn from computer science, traditional and digital humanities. It also looks at how these different disciplines position themselves epistemically, agentially and discursively. In this way, the paper presents a comparative perspective on the values and approaches, in particular, the divergences among these fields, and points toward some of the specific areas needing to be addressed if they are to work more productively together in the development toward more socially and culturally integrated engineering practices. Background: Highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) poses a critical global threat to both the poultry industry and public health. Although Morocco currently maintains HPAI-free status, the country faces substantial risk due to its location along major migratory flyways and its extensive commercial trade networks within the poultry sector. Available data indicate that the links between live bird markets, production farms, and related facilities in the poultry sector constitute a pivotal determinant of disease epidemiology. This study aimed to analyze these movements and determine how they can influence the spread of the disease and to guide policymakers in developing effective risk-based surveillance and control strategies tailored to the local context.: A questionnaire-based cross-sectional survey was conducted across the Casablanca-Settat region, including nine provinces and 138 municipalities, to investigate the movement patterns within the poultry sector in this region. Social network analysis (SNA) was employed to construct a movement network, and findings were spatially visualized using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and analyzed through network analysis in R.: A total of 945 transport routes were recorded in 126 municipalities. Centrality measures identified three predominant network nodes exhibiting high degree and betweenness centrality values. Our findings indicate that although the network has a low density, the transmission of IAHP remains critical due to frequent bidirectional links and a heterogeneous network structure. The high concentration of movements by a few “hub” municipalities leads to an early emergence and rapid dissemination.: The identification of highly influential nodes allows veterinary authorities to prioritize and target surveillance activities toward municipalities with the greatest likelihood of disease introduction or persistence. The network’s structural connectivity suggests a theoretical potential for rapid HPAI spread, underscoring the importance of the frequent bidirectional links identified between municipalities. This study addresses the research gap concerning how rural cultural–tourism integration contributes to regional economic resilience, a relationship that remains underexplored despite growing policy interest in rural revitalization. Using cross-sectional data for 285 Chinese prefecture-level cities in 2020, the study constructs a multidimensional ACT (agriculture–culture–tourism) indicator system and employs XGBoost regression with SHAP (SHapley Additive exPlanations) analysis to examine the nonlinear associations between ACT factors and economic resilience. Spatial analysis reveals significant positive spatial autocorrelation (Moran’s I = 0.412) and pronounced regional disparities. Machine learning results indicate that traditional village numbers and primary industry value-addedness are the most important predictors, with SHAP dependence analysis revealing threshold effects and diminishing marginal returns. An illustrative micro-level case study of 140 social media posts from Guangzhou provides interpretive evidence on how low-intensity, leisure-oriented tourism experiences mediate the translation of ACT resources into economic outcomes. The findings suggest that ACT integration is associated with stability-oriented resilience buffering rather than transformative growth, highlighting the importance of functional integration, product diversification, and institutional capacity for enhancing regional economic resilience. Amid accelerating climate change, natural resource depletion, and rising consumer demand for sustainable, health-promoting products, circular agriculture has emerged as a strategic pathway for reconciling agricultural productivity with environmental and social sustainability; however, empirical evidence on how circular production, health-product innovation, and experiential tourism can be jointly evaluated within a single model remains limited. This study aims to propose a multidimensional value assessment framework for circular agriculture through a case study of the Tam Dao Mushroom Cooperative (TDMC) in Phu Tho Province, Vietnam, centered on the cooperative’s Cordyceps militaris-based production system, nanotechnology-enabled health-product processing, most notably the Nano Cordy Milk functional beverage and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM)-oriented experiential tourism activities, comprising guided production tours, hands-on cultivation and processing demonstrations, and on-site product tastings offered to school and university groups, domestic and international tourists, and visiting farmers and cooperatives. The research integrates a case study approach with the Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (Fuzzy-AHP) to determine the priority weights of value dimensions based on the evaluations of seven experts. The findings identify five key dimensions of value generated by the circular agricultural model: economic value, environmental value, social value, educational value, and tourism value. The Fuzzy-AHP results indicate that economic value has the highest priority weight (Best Non-fuzzy Performance, BNP = 0.4050), followed by environmental value (0.2715), social value (0.1307), educational value (0.1313), and tourism value (0.0621). The study demonstrates that the circular agriculture model not only generates economic benefits but also simultaneously creates significant environmental, social, educational, and tourism values. These findings contribute to the theoretical foundation for assessing the multidimensional value of circular agriculture while providing practical references and policy implications for the sustainable development of circular agricultural models. As the global agri-food system faces escalating climate-related challenges, developing localized low-carbon short food supply chains (SFSCs) has become a vital strategy for sustainable agriculture. To elucidate the psychological drivers of green consumer behavior within this context, this study integrates the Stimulus–Organism–Behavior–Consequence (SOBC) framework with the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB). The aim is to investigate the continuous purchase intentions of Taiwanese consumers for organic cocoa. Data collected via an online survey from 377 consumers with prior cocoa consumption experience were analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The results indicate that personal attitudes and perceived behavioral control positively drive consumption intentions, whereas subjective norms do not. This suggests that consumption behaviors rely on substantive product evaluation rather than social pressures. Additionally, green product attributes and environmental values significantly enhance TPB constructs. Importantly, consumption intentions translate positively into perceived consumer effectiveness and continuous purchase intentions. By elucidating the psychological mechanisms underlying sustainable food choices, this study highlights the value of Taiwan’s “Tree-to-Bar” model. Practically, the findings highlight potential implications for policymakers and agribusinesses regarding how environmental attributes are communicated through front-of-pack (FOP) labels that emphasize local production and low-carbon mileage. Such approaches may help make environmental information more accessible to consumers, although their effectiveness should be evaluated in future research. Full article

Renewable-powered agricultural water systems are often assessed as solar-pumping devices, but their sustainability depends on a service chain linking crop-water demand, hydraulic duty point, power electronics, storage, water quality, governance, operation and end-of-life management. This structured integrative review synthesizes peer-reviewed and practice-oriented evidence on photovoltaic pumping, hybrid renewable irrigation, grid-interactive pumps, micro-hydro assistance and renewable-powered brackish-water reverse osmosis (PV-RO). Evidence was screened across four source families and coded by service function, energy architecture, hydraulic duty and dominant sustainability pathway; recurring combinations were consolidated using explicit separation and merge rules. It develops an archetype-based screening framework for ex ante appraisal of irrigation, desalination and circularity risks. Seven technology-service archetypes are identified: direct PV pumping, PV-to-tank pumping, PV with electrical buffering, grid-interactive PV pumping, PV–wind hybrid irrigation, micro-hydro-assisted irrigation and PV-RO water making. The framework links each archetype to its operating envelope, evidence maturity, enabling subsystems, sustainability pathways, minimum indicators and ordinal triggers for deeper due diligence. Hydraulic storage is usually the lowest-regret reliability buffer for open-field irrigation, whereas batteries are justified mainly when pressure stability, fertigation timing or night-time operation has high agronomic value. PV-RO is a distinct water-making archetype and is environmentally defensible only where feed-water characterization, energy recovery, pretreatment, product-water agronomy, membrane management and permitted concentrate disposal are embedded in design. Two synthetic applications demonstrate archetype selection and due-diligence escalation. Responsible deployment requires service-oriented screening that integrates hydraulic design, groundwater governance, procurement quality assurance, circularity obligations and social inclusion before field implementation. The primary aim of this study is to identify how residents on the Hungarian and Slovak sides of the Lower Ipoly Valley perceive the most considerable material and immaterial local values and unique resources of their settlements. The research was designed to explore and compare the territorial capital of the two sides of the study area based on three major capital types: natural, social, and economic capitals. Data collection included 254 semi-structured interviews, conducted with 136 residents on the Slovak side (14 settlements) and 118 residents on the Hungarian side (12 settlements). Detailed interview summaries were analysed with qualitative content analysis using emergent coding. This resulted in an analytical framework comprising nine value dimensions. Across both sides of the border, we examined the same nine value dimensions: local workforce, local enterprises, civil organisations and cultural groups, local and community events, local gastronomy, natural values, built heritage, holders of local knowledge, and local products. Items mentioned that related to each value dimension were counted for each dimension and normalised to a 0–10 scale. The quantified values were aggregated at the settlement level (90 points being the maximum score). The average score of each dimension was also calculated for both sides of the study area. Our findings show that the Hungarian side achieved a total score of 40.4, while the Slovak side reached 36.6, both reflecting a similarly weak–moderate state of the local capitals with minimal differences. This indicates that the two sides of the study area share comparable developmental challenges but also considerable potential for improvement. The Hungarian side performed slightly better in nearly all dimensions except local gastronomy, where the Slovak side proved stronger. The Hungarian side’s relative advantages include a higher presence of local enterprises, a richer network of civil and cultural groups, and more diverse built heritage; in other dimensions, differences are marginal. One of the most pressing regional challenges is improving employment opportunities and stimulating entrepreneurial activity, which are essential for enhancing population retention. Overall, the results indicate that the settlements possess substantial—yet largely underutilised—value assets, whose conscious and consensus-based development could form a strong foundation for creative and innovative local development. Each settlement’s value matrix includes elements that define its uniqueness, enabling the identification of numerous potential development pathways, whether through nature-based educational and recreational programmes, the utilisation of culturally considerable built heritage, the revitalisation of living traditions, or the promotion of local traditional gastronomy on both sides of the study area. The Golden Triangle circuit (Delhi–Agra–Jaipur) is India’s most iconic tourism product, yet it faces mounting pressure from overtourism, environmental degradation, and economic leakage to non-regional operators. We argue that strategic management of visitor satisfaction can play a key role in transforming this high-volume circuit into a sustainable destination that delivers long-term economic growth. Drawing on expectancy disconfirmation theory (EDT), SERVQUAL (service quality), perceived value theory, social exchange theory (SET), destination competitiveness models, and systematic classification of destination attributes, this study evaluates destination attributes and visitor satisfaction. This study assesses the importance of visitor satisfaction with the Golden Triangle and proposes a comprehensive framework for its measurement and application with destination-specific attributes. It uses a qualitative methodology that incorporates an extensive review of information available through various sources and triangulates findings with autoethnography. It identifies key attributes driving tourist satisfaction in the Golden Triangle and assesses the overall current state of the circuit. Furthermore, it identifies major challenges (harassment, congestion, and leakage) and proposes actionable improvements through smart technology, community-based tourism, and real-time feedback. A comprehensive evaluation of visitor satisfaction with various destination attributes of the Golden Triangle reveals that it performs well, as the outcome shows high overall satisfaction. This study also highlights that overall visitor satisfaction is an indirect economic lever that impacts local economic activity by creating jobs and earning foreign currency. The Golden Triangle can possibly serve as a replicable model for other heritage circuits in the Global South with similar characteristics. Full article

Global value chains (GVCs) are being reconfigured by trade-policy uncertainty, geopolitical fragmentation, supply-chain disruptions, and the accelerated diffusion of digital technologies. Drawing on a socio-technical systems perspective, this study distinguishes the technical subsystem of digital and manufacturing knowledge, the social-organizational subsystem of routines and resource allocation, and the interorganizational coordination interface linking suppliers and customers. Using panel data on Chinese listed manufacturing firms from 2008 to 2024 and a patent-citation-based measure of cross-domain technology fusion, it examines the association between digital–real technology fusion and firm-level GVC upgrading. GVC upgrading is proxied by the firm-level value-added rate and assessed using two alternative measures. The results show a positive and statistically significant association. Channel analyses provide evidence consistent with knowledge recombination and innovation capability, resource allocation efficiency and total factor productivity, and supply-chain coordination and resilience. The association is stronger among firms with stronger patent-technology bases, state-owned enterprises, firms in more competitive industries, and firms located in regions with more advanced digital infrastructure. Further analysis indicates that trade-policy-uncertainty exposure is negatively associated with GVC upgrading and that digital–real technology fusion attenuates this negative association. The GVC-upgrading proxy is also positively associated with firm operating performance. Full article

Historical geographic information systems (HGIS) have evolved from auxiliary tools for digitizing historical materials and displaying maps into infrastructural research environments that connect multidisciplinary forms of historical spatial knowledge production. Yet infrastructure alone does not fully capture the field’s value-oriented epistemic goals. Building on existing research on HGIS and historical spatial data infrastructures (HSDIs), this integrative literature review proposes Historical Geomatics as an agenda-setting heuristic framework organized around the core question of how HGIS can restructure knowledge production in historical geography. It synthesizes the field’s knowledge traditions, workflows, analytical paradigms, and future directions. First, it clarifies that HGIS function across research traditions as a tool, a method, and an environment that can use HSDIs to organize heterogeneous historical materials. Second, it conceptualizes spatialization as a continuous workflow of spatial element recognition, geographic attribute assignment, standardized modeling, and validation and revision. Standardization and explicit uncertainty representation are treated as prerequisites for research quality, while platform-based and public HGISs extend the lifecycle of historical spatial data. Third, the review groups existing scholarship into four analytical paradigms: spatiotemporal reconstruction; urban morphology and spatial structure; networks, mobility, and social space; and place, landscape, and memory. Finally, it examines how geospatial artificial intelligence (GeoAI) is reshaping HGIS knowledge production and argues that Historical Geomatics may serve as an agenda-setting heuristic for the next stage of HGIS. The principal opportunities lie not in accumulating additional cases, but in strengthening HSDIs, improving multimodal automation, representing uncertainty explicitly, and rebalancing space and place, models and narratives, and technical efficiency and historical context. This study assesses life cycle greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from water hyacinth (Pontederia crassipes; WH) biochar production and its subsequent use as fuel or soil amendment in Ethiopia. Overgrowth of WH in Lake Tana has created ecological and socioeconomic challenges, while the country continues to rely heavily on biomass fuels and imported chemical fertilizers. To address these issues, three scenarios were evaluated using a functional unit of 1 kg of dried WH: (Case 1) current practice of abandonment and decomposition; (Case 2) WH-derived biochar (WHB) used as household fuel; and (Case 3) WHB applied as a soil amendment. Experimental data from pyrolysis of WH and acacia, combined with background life cycle inventory data, were used to quantify GHG emissions across each value chain. Japanese WH and WHB were used for life cycle GHG evaluation and applied to Ethiopian social contexts due to biological resources restrictions. The results showed that Case 3 provided the greatest reduction in net GHG emissions due to long-term carbon sequestration in soil. Case 2 also reduced emissions through substitution of acacia charcoal by use of WHB for household fuel, though to a lesser extent. Sensitivity analyses highlighted the influence of transport distance and biochar yield on overall performance. These findings demonstrated the environmental advantages of integrating WHB into Ethiopia’s energy and agricultural systems, supporting sustainable biomass management and climate mitigation strategies. This study examines how retailers’ in-store green promotion influences consumers’ repurchase intention toward green food products in Vietnamese supermarkets. Although prior research has examined green perceived value, green trust, and green purchase intention, less is known about how retailer-driven promotion at the point of purchase is associated with repeat purchase decisions, particularly through value-based and trust-based mechanisms in emerging market supermarket settings. Drawing on signaling theory and consumption value theory, the study conceptualizes in-store green promotion as a set of retailer-provided signals that help consumers evaluate credence attributes of green food, and develops a model in which green trust and four dimensions of green perceived value—emotional value, conditional value, functional value, and social value—mediate the relationship between in-store green promotion and repurchase intention. Data were collected through a survey of 412 consumers who had previously purchased green food products from supermarkets in Vietnam. The model was tested using confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modeling. The findings show that in-store green promotion has a positive direct effect on repurchase intention and significantly enhances green trust and all four dimensions of green perceived value. Green trust and the four value dimensions also positively predict repurchase intention. Mediation analysis indicates that the effect of in-store green promotion on repurchase intention is transmitted through both green trust and multidimensional green perceived value. The study contributes to green marketing research by shifting attention from general green communication to retailer-driven in-store promotion and by explaining green food repurchase intention through integrated signaling-based, value-based, and trust-based mechanisms. On-site digital human guide systems, which integrate intelligent interactive technologies with guidance, interpretation, and information services, are emerging as an important form of intelligent on-site service. However, existing knowledge remains largely fragmented across technological configurations, interaction modalities, application contexts, and user experience objectives, lacking an integrated cross-dimensional analytical perspective that explains how these systems create and deliver value. To address this gap, this paper aims to adopt a Product–Service Systems (PSS) perspective to systematically examine the development of on-site digital human guide systems. Specifically, it explores their product–service configurations, service delivery modes and user participation, and artificial intelligence (AI) capability integration pathways, while identifying the value creation opportunities and challenges associated with system development and continuous optimization. The PSS paradigm offers such an integrative lens, which has gained renewed relevance as the Fourth Industrial Revolution (Industry 4.0) accelerates the servitization and digital transformation of traditional services. This paper conducts a scoping review employing content analysis based on a structured cross-database search across Google Scholar, Scopus, and Web of Science, supplemented by snowball sampling, covering 40 studies, including 34 deployed projects. The findings reveal that: (1) on-site digital human guide systems can be categorized into four product–service configurations: fixed terminal (stationary dialogue); mobile terminal (location-aware guidance); Head-Mounted Display/Mixed Reality (immersive experience); and robot (full-process mobile service). The selection of these configurations is shaped by spatial characteristics, target user group, and institutional operational conditions; (2) a user behavior taxonomy of nine active and five passive types was developed, demonstrating that user participation patterns are jointly shaped by control allocation in service delivery and the social behavior design of digital humans, with users showing a preference for controllable and interruptible engagement; (3) AI integration has evolved from rule-and-script-driven approaches to modular AI integration, and subsequently to large language model (LLM)/Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG)-driven architectures, with corresponding design implications proposed; and (4) challenges were classified into four major categories and 26 subcategories across three digital transformation stages. The contribution of this paper lies in the development of an integrated PSS analytical framework for on-site digital human guide systems, spanning product, service, and AI integration layers. The framework provides a multi-layer analytical lens for understanding system configurations, user participation, technological evolution, and implementation challenges, while offering structured guidance for configuration and service selection, system design, and continuous optimization across diverse deployment contexts. These findings provide practical implications for researchers and practitioners seeking to design, deploy, and optimize on-site digital human guide systems across diverse service environments. Our current moment is marked by profound institutional, ecological, and social upheaval. The unparalleled amassing of wealth by an infinitesimal percentage of the world’s population; populist movements on the left and right born of broken social contracts; escalating global conflicts and ecological collapse amidst breakneck technological advance—these are all emblematic of the uncharted ruptures that humans, our living kin, and our planetary system are currently weathering. The following viewpoint piece endeavors to shed light on the challenges, complexities, and opportunities of this polycrisis through the lens of academia. By highlighting the inherent contradiction that modern academia has unwittingly created through its narrow “apprenticeship” training structure, this paper first illustrates how one of the most highly skilled workforces in the world is nonetheless particularly ill-positioned to navigate the present moment holistically. The manuscript next argues that to address this gap, leaders of academia must expand their understanding of well-being, productivity, and expertise to include the fruits of their faculty members’ creative wellspring—a term that captures the humanistic, generative capabilities including vulnerability, reflection, courage, and connection that undergird value-based decision making, professional perseverance, and sustained collaboration with others. To move these ideas from theory to practice, the manuscript next emphasizes how the nurturance of a coaching ethos can support faculty in reenchanting their academic careers. The implications of an increasingly holistic, creative notion of expertise for promoting social and planetary flourishing are also considered. Full article

The Author argues that the audiovisual image of reality cemented in films as audiovisual media reflects in a particular way the developments occurring in the community that produced these images. This refers also to the religiosity of a specific society. The article will begin by providing a brief overview of its main theoretical perspective of social imaginaries formulated and implemented in the field of sociology by Charles Taylor. In order to pave the ground for future studies in the area, the method of implementation of Taylor’s term will be presented to highlight how narrative films and television series as products of audiovisual culture reflect the state of the collective consciousness of the Polish national community in terms of Christian religiosity expressed through attachment to Catholic rituals, practices and customs as well as usage and understanding of religious symbols and also basing personal and collective behaviors and decisions on the value system that arose from Christian ethics. This means that in spite of people moving away from orthodoxy and a shift to postsecular attitudes, Christianity shaped images (including visual metaphors) that still provide people with mental shortcuts or become tools of persuasion as a means of audiovisual communication with the viewer.
