Polymer-modified bituminous binders are widely used in road construction due to their enhanced mechanical performance; however, the effectiveness of these materials critically depends on the actual concentration of polymer modifiers, particularly styrene-butadiene-styrene (SBS). This study aims to develop and validate a rapid, reproducible Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy—Attenuated Total Reflectance (FTIR-ATR) spectroscopy method for the quantitative determination of SBS content in polymer-modified bitumen (PMB). Since, to date, there is no clearly defined method for controlling the quantitative content of polymers in PMB, this creates difficulties in accepting the roadway into operation. Calibration PMB samples containing 1–4% SBS were prepared, tested for physical and mechanical properties, and analyzed spectroscopically to identify characteristic absorption bands at 966 cm−1 and 699–760 cm−1. A first-order calibration model was constructed to relate peak intensity to polymer concentration. The results demonstrate a clear linear correlation between SBS content and IR absorption features, confirming the suitability of FTIR as an instrumental method for routine laboratory control. Application of the model allowed determination of actual polymer mass fraction with high accuracy and reproducibility. The findings also showed that increased SBS levels improve softening point, elasticity, and low-temperature resistance, with 3–4% representing a performance-optimal range. Overall, the proposed FTIR-based approach provides an objective and efficient tool for quality control of polymer-modified binders and supports broader standardization efforts in the field. Background/Objectives: Young women with breast cancer (aged ≤ 40 years) have distinct prognostic characteristics, yet little is known about how modifiable body composition factors influence outcomes in this age group. This study examined whether CT-derived body composition measures could identify thresholds that predict overall survival (OS). Methods: This was a single-center, 10-year, matched case–control study nested within a cohort, utilizing retrospectively collected data. Using an institutional database (2009–2018) and the initial cohort of 112 patients, we performed a subset analysis of patients with stage I–III breast cancer at diagnosis who had available pretreatment CT scans to estimate associations with body composition metrics and OS. The final analytic dataset included 89 individuals (49 survivors and 40 deceased). CT scans at the L3 level were analyzed using Slice-O-Matic software to quantify visceral (VAT), subcutaneous (SAT), intermuscular (IMAT), total adipose tissue (TAT), skeletal muscle density (SMD), skeletal muscle gauge (SMG), and skeletal muscle index (SMI). Cox proportional hazard models determined optimal cutpoints for OS. Multivariable models included adjustments for disease stage and hormone receptor status. Results: The median age was 35 (IQR, 32–38); 47% were White and 37% were Black. The majority (78%) were not Hispanic or Latina. Most (67%) were overweight/obese. Specific thresholds for IMAT index (>2.57), VAT (>31.38), and SMG (<2419.89) were associated with worse survival (all p < 0.05), while no cutpoints were identified for other variables. Conclusions: These findings show that muscle fat infiltration and reduced muscle quality have important prognostic value in young women with breast cancer. Exploratory cutpoints derived from routine staging CT scans may help inform risk stratification and generate hypotheses for targeted nutritional or exercise interventions, but require validation in larger, independent cohorts before clinical application. The desert ecosystem harbors a resilient microbial community that sustains plant life under extreme stress. Understanding the endophytic microbiota of desert flora provides key insights into how these microorganisms enable plant survival and maintain ecological balance in arid landscapes. To date, the endophytic bacterial communities of dominant desert plants in the Arabian Peninsula have not been comprehensively characterized. Here, we investigated the endophytic microbiota of five co-adapted desert species, namely, Schweinfurthia papilionacea, Sesuvium verrucosum, Ochtocloa compressa, Helianthemum nummularium, and Convolvulus arvensis. These plants coexist in hyper-arid habitats and exhibit exceptional tolerance to drought, salinity, and nutrient scarcity. We hypothesized that, despite their phylogenetic divergence, these plants host functionally convergent microbial communities shaped by desert selection pressures. Using 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing, we obtained 3.4 million high-quality reads from 25 samples. Clustering at 97% similarity revealed 35 phyla and 17 dominant genera, highlighting notable microbial richness and ecological complexity. Alpha-diversity indices showed comparable species richness across hosts, while beta-diversity indicated community differentiation driven by environmental filtering. The dominant phyla included Pseudomonadota, Actinomycetota, Cyanobacteriota, and Bacillota, reflecting microbial adaptation to extreme desert conditions. Functional pathway prediction revealed enrichment of genes associated with DNA repair and protein turnover, suggesting metabolic flexibility and enhanced survival under stress. Overall, this study provides a comparative metagenomic insight into the endophytic bacterial communities of five desert plant species, uncovering a consistent pattern of functional convergence across diverse hosts. The findings suggest the presence of shared functional traits among the endophytic microbiota examined here, offering preliminary evidence for microbial contributions to plant resilience in arid environments. Light quality plays a decisive role in controlled-environment agriculture, shaping plant morphology, physiology, and productivity. This study investigated the impact of far-red (FR) light on Cannabis sativa L. by comparing two different application strategies: continuous FR supplementation throughout 12 h of the photoperiod and end-of-day (EOD) FR exposure applied only at the end of the light period. In both treatments, FR was added to a background spectrum of red and blue (RB) light, while a control group grown under RB light alone was included to assess the specific effects of FR on plant growth, physiological responses, and flowering. Continuous FR exposure induced pronounced shade-avoidance traits, increasing plant height by 9% and petiole length by 17% relative to the control, and raised leaf dry weight to 12.9 g, 9% higher than under EOD (11.7 g) and 16.3% higher than under RB alone (10.8 g). Besides plant height and petiole length, both FR and EOD treatment induced limited morphological adjustments but increased chlorophyll content by 9%, resulting in greater canopy expansion and photosynthetic potential. However, flowering time was unaffected by spectral treatment, confirming that Cannabis floral induction is tightly regulated by photoperiod rather than light quality. Energy-use analysis revealed that EOD supplementation achieved many of the benefits of continuous FR while reducing overall consumption, but energy-use efficiency analysis proved FR as the more efficient treatment. These findings highlight the potential of FR light, particularly when applied continuously, to optimize vegetative growth and canopy physiology in controlled-environment Cannabis cultivation, while EOD strategies offer a practical compromise between cost savings and physiological benefits. Background/Objectives: Poor bone quality is strongly associated with adverse surgical events. Although dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) remains the gold standard for bone mineral density (BMD) assessment, logistical barriers may limit its preoperative application. The Endplate Bone Quality (EBQ) score is an MRI-derived metric quantifying subchondral bone quality at the vertebral endplate with demonstrated predictive value for cage subsidence following lumbar interbody fusion. However, EBQ has been measured exclusively at the operative level in surgical cohorts. This study aimed to assess level-specific EBQ scores across the entire lumbar spine and compare distributions across age, sex and osteoporosis subgroups. Methods: A single-institution retrospective review of T1-weighted lumbar MRI studies from patients evaluated for lower back pain from 2020 to 2025 was performed. EBQ was independently scored by two blinded raters at each disc space from L1–L2 to L5–S1 using 3 mm endplate ROIs normalized to a CSF ROI at L3. Interrater reliability was assessed via ICC, Pearson correlation, and RMSE. Patients were stratified by age (≤60 vs. >60 years), sex, and osteoporosis status, and subgroup comparisons were performed for overall and level-specific EBQ score. Results: A total of 96 patients with an average age of 61.0 ± 9.42 years were included in this study. The majority of patients included were female (87.5%), and 18.8% had been diagnosed with osteoporosis. EBQ scores demonstrated a progressive caudal increase across all subgroups from L2–L3 to L5–S1. Overall interrater reliability was acceptable (ICC = 0.76), with level-specific ICCs ranging from 0.70 to 0.83. No significant differences were observed between age or sex subgroups. Osteoporotic patients demonstrated significantly higher EBQ at L1–L2, L2–L3, and overall (all p < 0.05), with no significant differences at L3–L4 through L5–S1. Conclusions: This study provides normative, level-specific EBQ reference data throughout all levels of the lumbar spine. The increase in EBQ scores seen among caudal levels and reduced osteoporotic discriminatory power support the importance of level-specific context when interpreting EBQ thresholds. These findings may support future studies evaluating threshold development for EBQ. Full article

With the rapid development of applications such as smart cities and the industrial internet, the computation-intensive tasks generated by massive sensing devices pose significant challenges to traditional cloud computing paradigms. Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-assisted edge computing systems, leveraging their high mobility and wide-area coverage capabilities, offer an innovative architecture for low-latency and highly reliable edge services. However, the practical deployment of such systems faces a highly complex multi-objective optimization problem featured by the tight coupling of task offloading decisions, UAV trajectory planning, and edge server resource allocation. Conventional optimization methods are difficult to adapt to the dynamic and high-dimensional characteristics of this problem, leading to suboptimal system performance. To address this critical challenge, this paper constructs an intelligent collaborative optimization framework for UAV-assisted edge computing systems and formulates the system quality of service (QoS) optimization problem as a mixed-integer non-convex programming problem with the dual objectives of minimizing task processing latency and reducing overall system energy consumption. A multi-agent joint task association and trajectory optimization (MA-JTATO) algorithm based on hybrid reinforcement learning is proposed to solve this intractable problem, which innovatively decouples the original coupled optimization problem into three interrelated subproblems and realizes their collaborative and efficient solution. Specifically, the Advantage Actor-Critic (A2C) algorithm is adopted to realize dynamic and optimal task association between UAVs and edge servers for discrete decision-making requirements; the multi-agent deep deterministic policy gradient (MADDPG) method is employed to achieve cooperative and energy-efficient trajectory planning for multiple UAVs to meet the needs of continuous control in dynamic environments; and convex optimization theory is applied to obtain a closed-form optimal solution for the efficient allocation of computational resources on edge servers. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed MA-JTATO algorithm significantly outperforms traditional baseline algorithms in enhancing overall QoS, effectively validating the framework’s superior performance and robustness in dynamic and complex scenarios. Rising non-performing assets (NPAs) remain a persistent threat to banking stability in emerging economies, including India. This study examines the role of conventional macroeconomic determinants in shaping NPA dynamics using annual panel data from 30 Indian banks over the period 2003–2022. Employing Robust Least Squares and dynamic modelling techniques, the analysis evaluates the impact of GDP growth, inflation, exchange rate movements, and repo rates, while addressing heteroscedasticity, autocorrelation, and bank-level heterogeneity. The findings indicate that currency depreciation significantly increases NPAs, whereas inflation and tighter monetary policy exert a moderating effect. GDP, however, does not exhibit a significant influence, suggesting limited macroeconomic transmission to banking asset quality. To ensure appropriate model specification, stationarity tests are conducted, guiding the inclusion of dynamic elements in the analysis. Once the model is adjusted accordingly, the results consistently highlight the relative importance of macroeconomic factors without yielding conflicting interpretations. While broader theoretical perspectives such as institutional memory and balance-sheet effects are acknowledged for contextual relevance, they are not empirically tested in this study. Overall, the findings emphasize that conventional macroeconomic variables play a meaningful, though selective, role in explaining NPA behaviour, offering clearer and more consistent insights for policy and banking practice. Global freshwater scarcity is a pressing environmental challenge, particularly in Egypt, which depends entirely on the Nile River and its tributaries. Rapid population growth, domestic wastes, agricultural runoff, and rapid industrial expansion exert highly anthropogenic stress on aquatic ecosystems, including Bahr Yusuf and Ibrahimia Canals in Upper Egypt. This study aimed to evaluate the ecological health and sustainability status of the two canals using an integrated multi-metric framework combining physicochemical variables, microbiological indicators, and community structures of zooplankton and benthic fauna. Multivariate statistical analyses (PCA, CCA), and ecological indices, including the water quality index (WQI), microbial assessment index (MAI), Rotifer-Based Index (TSIRot) and Hilsenhoff Biotic Index, were applied to determine pollution gradients. The results revealed that Bahr Yusuf suffers from higher pollution levels than the Ibrahimia Canal. Canonical correspondence analysis (CCA) showed that nutrient enrichment and elevated organic load are responsible for over 72% of the variance in zooplankton and benthic invertebrate assemblage in both water bodies. The dominance of pollution-tolerant species, Philodina roseola and B. calyciflorus of zooplankton and Limnodrilus udekemianus, Chironomidae larvae, Melanoides tuberculate and Cleopatra bulimoides of benthic taxa, further indicates a direct increase in organic loading and nutrient enrichment from agricultural and domestic sources. According to the Integrated Water Quality–Biotic Health Index (IWQ-BHI), the downstream stations of Bahr Yusuf are critical risk zones, with scores below 50.0, while the upstream stations of Ibrahimia Canal fell within the “good” category, with scores exceeding 70.0. Overall, both waterbodies are approaching a critical threshold of ecological instability and require urgent, integrated and sustainable management to restore and preserve these vital freshwater ecosystems. Background/Objectives: Children at cardiovascular risk require effective non-pharmacological strategies to improve cardiometabolic health. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of physical activity and lifestyle-based interventions on blood pressure and related cardiovascular risk markers in children and adolescents. Materials and Methods: A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted in accordance with PRISMA guidelines and registered in PROSPERO (CRD42025644256). Searches were performed in MEDLINE (PubMed), SPORTDiscus (EBSCO), and the Cochrane Library from January 2015 to March 2025. Methodological quality and risk of bias were evaluated using the PEDro scale, RoB 2.0, and GRADE. Results: Twenty-nine studies were included, showing overall high methodological quality. Pooled analyses showed a statistically significant reduction in systolic blood pressure (SMD = −0.35; 95% CI: −0.40 to −0.31; p < 0.00001, I2 = 83%). Diastolic blood pressure also showed a small but statistically significant reduction (SMD = −0.06; 95% CI: −0.11 to −0.01; p = 0.01; I2 = 93%), equivalent to an estimated decrease of about 1 mmHg. Fasting insulin levels were significantly reduced (SMD = −0.92; 95% CI: −1.27 to −0.56; p < 0.00001), suggesting improvements in metabolic regulation despite considerable heterogeneity (I2 = 95%). In contrast, pooled effects for body fat percentage (%) (SMD = 0.11; 95% CI: −0.10 to 0.32; p = 0.31) and BMI z-score (standardized units) (SMD = 0.13; 95% CI: −0.04 to 0.31; p = 0.14) were not statistically significant, with very high between-study variability. Conclusions: Multicomponent interventions integrating physical activity with lifestyle modification appear effective in reducing systolic and diastolic blood pressure and improving insulin sensitivity in children and adolescents at elevated cardiovascular risk. Although the magnitude of blood pressure reductions is modest, even small decreases at the population level may contribute to meaningful long-term cardiovascular risk reductions. Full article

Historical and cultural districts are the outcome of cultural sedimentation brought about by urban development, and they embody distinctive urban historical and cultural connotations. Ignoring the protection of the historical and cultural value contained in streetscapes will not only decrease the life quality of residents but will also diminish distinctive local urban features. This study focused on the Fangcheng historical and cultural district in Shenyang. The scenic beauty estimation method was employed to evaluate urban style and features’ visual quality, while the semantic differential method was used to obtain the subjective perceptual features of samples. The study also systematically explored the dynamic relationship between urban style and features’ quality and subjective perception in historical and cultural districts. The results show that color richness, coherence, iconic status, and continuum all exert significant positive predictive effects on visual preferences regarding urban style and features. Color richness was the primary determinant of urban style and features’ visual quality. Continuum interfaces, a unified spatial texture, and coordinated dimensions contributed significantly to improving urban style and features’ visual quality in historic and cultural districts. The distinctiveness and cultural iconic status of historical and cultural districts enhanced the residents’ identity and place memory. Moreover, the coherence and continuum of style between the old and new elements promoted an integrated aesthetic experience. The evaluation results revealed that the overall visual quality of urban style and features of most streets was medium. However, streets with a higher visual quality cluster among historical streets and commercial streets. The residential streets demonstrated a significantly lower visual quality. Establishing a comprehensive evaluation system that integrates urban style and features, subjective perception, and the style of historical and cultural districts can contribute to covering the shortage in the traditional urban style and features’ research and also provide a basis for urban regeneration at the micro scale. Background/Objectives: To evaluate whether mandibular third molar germectomy is associated with differences in neurosensory injury, postoperative complications, and patient-centred outcomes compared with delayed extraction. Methods: A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted according to PRISMA guidelines. Electronic searches were performed in PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Scopus, Cochrane Library, LILACS, and Google Scholar. Comparative studies including pediatric or adolescent patients undergoing mandibular third molar germectomy were included. Primary outcomes were inferior alveolar nerve (IAN) injury and overall postoperative complications; secondary outcomes included postoperative morbidity and patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs). Random-effects models were used for quantitative synthesis. Results: Ten studies met the inclusion criteria, including two randomized controlled trials and eight observational studies. Comparative evidence suggested that early removal at an immature developmental stage was associated with a lower risk of IAN injury (pooled RR = 0.05, 95% CI 0.01–0.37) and fewer overall postoperative complications (pooled RR = 0.29, 95% CI 0.20–0.42) compared with delayed extraction. However, certainty of evidence was limited due to heterogeneity, risk of bias, and potential confounding. PROMs consistently showed a short-term increase in pain and temporary quality-of-life impairment after germectomy, while delayed-onset infections were reported several weeks after surgery. Conclusions: Germectomy may reduce neurosensory risk and overall postoperative morbidity in selected developmental-age patients but entails a measurable short-term symptom burden. Decisions should therefore rely on individualized risk assessment and shared decision-making rather than routine preventive removal. Further prospective comparative studies with standardized outcome reporting are required to support definitive clinical recommendations. Full article

Background: research suggests that adolescents with a migrant background may be particularly vulnerable to behavioral addictions, including problematic gaming and Internet use. Methods: we compared Italian (ITA) and non-Italian (WIC) students on Internet Gaming Disorder (IGD) and Internet Addiction (IA) and examined whether coping strategies and interpersonal-relationship quality were associated with these outcomes, using robust linear models estimated with the GENLIN procedure in IBM SPSS Statistics 31 and regression-based models on observed variables. A total of 535 students (64.5% female; aged 9–18) completed the Video Games Addiction Questionnaire (VGA), the Internet Addiction Test (IAT), the Children’s Coping Strategies Checklist–Revised (CCSC), and the Assessment of Interpersonal Relations (AIR). Results: robust generalized linear models showed that WIC adolescents reported significantly higher IGD levels than their Italian peers, while no differences emerged for IA. Gender differences were evident only in unadjusted models, with males reporting higher IGD and females higher IA; however, these effects were not significant once age and nationality were considered simultaneously. Age was positively associated with IA but not with IGD. Avoidance coping was associated with higher levels of both IGD and IA, whereas active coping was negatively associated with IGD. Relationship quality was not associated with IGD but showed protective effects for IA: better relationships with mothers and with both male and female peers were associated with lower IA scores. Overall, the findings highlight that IGD and IA follow partially distinct developmental patterns. Migrant background emerged as a specific vulnerability factor for IGD, while IA appears more closely linked to age-related processes, coping styles, and interpersonal-relationship quality. Conclusions: the results call for differentiated prevention and intervention approaches targeting the distinct etiological mechanisms of each problematic behavior, focusing on coping and migration-related stress and belonging for IGD, and on strengthening coping repertoires and relational resources for IA. University students face sustained academic, employment, and social pressures. Campus pathways, as central linear spaces in daily routines, hold significant potential to influence well-being, yet existing research has largely overlooked how their environmental characteristics affect multidimensional health. Using Shenyang Jianzhu University as a case, this study identified frequently used pathways through GPS tracking and surveys, and quantitatively analyzed how environmental features affect walking willingness, emotional experience, and social interaction. By comparing high- and low-benefit groups, the key environmental thresholds were identified to inform health-oriented design. Beyond verifying some established understandings (e.g., daily commuting paths prioritize efficiency, while leisure paths focus on experiential quality), the study further revealed several mechanisms through quantitative analysis. For example, “road accessibility”—an indicator of convenience—showed a significant negative correlation with emotional experience. The study established quantifiable prediction models and identified design thresholds for campus pathways. A high aesthetic greenery was key to achieving high overall benefits, while low building enclosure and vegetation complexity promoted social interaction. This achievement transforms health-oriented campus pathway design from qualitative principles into a measurable and optimizable scientific practice, thus providing an empirical basis and practical guidance for the construction of health-supportive campus environments. Digital transformation in the interior design industry has opened new opportunities for innovation; however, many cost-conscious homeowners still face difficulties in selecting and customizing design packages that achieve a balance between overall cost and sustainable quality. Existing interior design platforms lack seamless support and often require homeowners to invest considerable time and effort to tailor services to their needs while staying within budget. To address these challenges, this paper explores the use of machine learning to build a predictive modelling framework that supports personalized and value-driven interior design recommendations. The proposed approach uses a hybrid recommendation system that combines content-based and collaborative filtering. It also incorporates lightweight techniques such as TF–IDF (Term Frequency–Inverse Document Frequency) and logistic regression to more effectively capture user preferences, budget limits, and several interior-design service categories. Primary data was collected from small to medium-sized interior design companies. To demonstrate the proposed approach, a user-friendly web application tool is developed to integrate machine learning-enabled recommendation services. The resulting solution provides access to professional interior design services, enhancing customization and customer satisfaction while reducing the time and effort required from homeowners. To validate and compare the performance of the proposed approach, several machine learning models including Random Forest, XGBoost and KNN (K-Nearest Neighbors) were tested using standard metrics such as accuracy, precision, recall, and ROC-AUC (Receiver Operating Characteristic-Area Under the Curve). The proposed logistic regression hybrid model achieved the strongest overall results, with an accuracy of 83.62%. These findings demonstrate the significant contribution of this work to enhancing personalization and accessibility in the interior design sector via machine learning-enabled recommendation systems. The proposed approach bridges the gap between expert-level services and financial limits, making it a practical choice for cost-conscious homeowners. Full article

Objective: To compare the efficacy and safety of gas-based therapies for chronic wounds using a systematic review and network meta-analysis (NMA). Methods: Following PRISMA 2020, we systematically searched PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Cochrane CENTRAL, and CBM from inception to 1 October 2025, screened studies in duplicate, and resolved disagreements by arbitration (κ = 0.87). Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) enrolling adults with chronic wounds were eligible; the primary endpoint was complete wound healing. Pairwise meta-analysis used risk ratios (RRs) with 95% CIs; heterogeneity was assessed with Q/I2 and random-effects models were applied when appropriate. A frequentist NMA synthesized direct and indirect evidence, and treatments were ranked with SUCRA. Publication bias (Egger/Begg) and evidence certainty (GRADE) were evaluated. Results: Twenty-seven RCTs comprising 1673 participants were included. In pairwise pooling, gas therapies significantly increased complete healing versus standard care (random-effects RR = 2.17, 95% CI 1.61–2.94), with substantial heterogeneity (I2 = 75.7%); results were directionally consistent and robust to sensitivity analyses. Prespecified subgroup analyses suggested effect modification by intervention type and wound etiology. In the NMA, most gas modalities showed beneficial trends versus standard care; however, SUCRA ranking placed standard care highest (93.9%), a finding attributed by the authors to network structure and between-study variability. Ozone therapy and topical oxygen ranked next, whereas HBOT and cold atmospheric plasma ranked mid-range; CO2 therapy ranked lowest due to sparse evidence. Small-study effects were likely (Egger p < 0.001; Begg p = 0.013), and overall certainty was graded as moderate, limited primarily by heterogeneity, imprecision, and potential publication bias. Conclusions: Across RCTs, gas therapies as a class improve the probability of complete healing in chronic wounds relative to standard care, but effect sizes vary by modality and wound type. Given heterogeneity, possible publication bias, and inconsistencies within the evidence network, these findings should be applied with caution. HBOT remains the modality supported by the broadest evidence base, while large, high-quality, multicenter RCTs are needed to refine comparative effectiveness and safety rankings across gas therapies.
