Industrial heritage tourism depends on more than the preservation of visible structures; it also requires visitors to perceive historical and cultural meaning. This study examines public perceptions of eight representative industrial heritage tourism sites in Wuhan. Drawing on Scene Theory, we developed a three-dimensional framework encompassing physical, social, and cultural scenes. We collected user-generated content (UGC) from Dianping.com and evaluated 12 perception elements using semantic network analysis and a modified Importance–Performance Analysis based on topic salience and satisfaction. Public perceptions were dominated by visual aesthetics and social-media engagement. Ecological atmosphere received favourable evaluations despite its lower salience, whereas homogeneous commercial offerings weakened the visitor experience. Era memory and industrial heritage combined relatively high salience with low satisfaction, revealing a gap between visible physical remains and the communication of industrial history and collective memory. A hierarchical analysis further showed that only 8.40% of culture-related reviews contained deep industrial narratives. We therefore propose strategies that improve spatial interpretation, embed site-specific industrial identity in commercial and social experiences, and connect heritage objects with historical processes and workers' memories. These findings provide an evidence-based framework for strengthening cultural interpretation in the revitalization of Wuhan's industrial heritage. Full article

Historical art materials have always been a starting point for better understanding artists’ artwork composition, the long-term stability of used formulations and for designing appropriate strategies for conservation. It is important to consider how artists have always been involved over the centuries in the selection and preparation of the materials they used. This changed with the advent of industrial formulations, which were produced and marketed on a large scale, leading to significant changes from the 19th century onwards. In this study, the study of a set of 30 green paint tubes from the Munch Museum collection (Oslo) is presented. The selected investigation method allows for a progressive acquisition of complementary and increasingly detailed information through three multi-analytical steps, involving elemental, spectroscopic and chromatographic techniques, with the aim of characterising these materials in their various inorganic and organic components. Results achieved allow the identification of green pigments’ chemical composition and classification of them in distinct groups, presence of inert additives and characterisation of organic binding media. Degradation processes were also highlighted through the detection of metal soap formations. Full article

With the rapid growth of social media, online news has become increasingly multimodal, combining textual and visual information, posing new challenges for fake news detection. Existing methods often suffer from redundant features, distribution differences across modalities, and insufficient modeling of semantic interactions. To address these issues, this paper proposes an Adaptive Binary Osprey Optimization Algorithm and Cross-modal Disentangled Fusion model (ABOOA-CDF). First, an Adaptive Binary Osprey Optimization Algorithm (ABOOA) is developed for multimodal feature selection by integrating chaotic initialization, adaptive search, and binary mapping strategies to identify informative feature subsets. Then, a Cross-modal Relation Disentanglement Module (CRDM) is introduced to decompose multimodal representations into shared, discrepant, and complementary components, thereby enhancing semantic relationship modeling. Furthermore, an Adaptive Semantic Fusion Module (ASFM) dynamically learns fusion weights to generate discriminative multimodal representations. Experimental results demonstrate that ABOOA-CDF effectively improves detection performance. Compared with MFO and OOA, the proposed method achieves Accuracy improvements of 1.02 and 2.66 percentage points, respectively, verifying its effectiveness in feature optimization, cross-modal relation modeling, and semantic fusion. Chiral supramolecular polymers offer a versatile platform for constructing dynamic functional materials, yet their development in aqueous media remains challenging due to weak host–guest interactions and limited chiral macrocyclic systems. Herein, we report a water-soluble chiral luminescent supramolecular polymer assembled from a pair of chiral macrocycle ((R)-/(S)-C[4]B) and an achiral bis-thiazole orange guest. The ultrahigh binding affinity between the host and guest enables stable one-dimensional polymerization in water. Efficient chirality transfer from the macrocyclic host to the achiral luminophore gives rise to pronounced circular dichroism (CD) and circularly polarized luminescence (CPL). The resulting polymer exhibits red emission (625 nm) with a luminescence dissymmetry factor of 8.5 × 10−3. This work provides an effective strategy for the development of aqueous CPL-active supramolecular polymers through ultrastrong host–guest recognition. Full article

Androgenetic alopecia (AGA) is a prevalent clinical disorder, and the key pathogenic factor is dihydrotestosterone (DHT) present in the pilosebaceous unit. Current clinical therapeutic options are often associated with notable adverse effects, highlighting the urgent need for safer and more effective interventions. Herein, a novel amphiphilic covalent organic framework (amCOF) is designed and synthesized. By simultaneously incorporating hydrophilic functional groups and lipophilic alkyl chains into the covalent organic skeleton, the material exhibits excellent amphiphilicity, high specific surface area, and well-ordered porous structures. Owing to its amphiphilic nature, amCOF disperses uniformly in aqueous physiological media and adapts favorably to the lipophilic microenvironment within hair follicles. Furthermore, the ordered porous architecture endows amCOF with rapid DHT adsorption kinetics, high adsorption capacity, and high removal efficiency. Functional assays demonstrate that amCOF effectively reverses the inhibitory effects of DHT on the proliferation and migration of human dermal papilla cells. In animal models, topical application of amCOF significantly reduces local DHT concentrations, promotes hair regrowth, and shows favorable biosafety profiles. Collectively, this work provides a new strategy for treating androgenetic alopecia by scavenging pathogenic lipophilic molecules from sebum using amphiphilic porous materials and also establishes a solid foundation for expanding the biomedical applications of COFs. Employing a space–time perspective, this study develops a CA-SHIRS model of corporate resonance diffusion of food safety risk, drawing on complex network theory and cellular automata theory. The study then examines the mechanisms and spatial–temporal evolution characteristics of this diffusion, considering the interplay among food firm heterogeneity, media communication strategy, and government regulatory strategy. The study reaches the following conclusions: (1) Higher probabilities of infection, conversion, and immune failure speed up risk transmission within the spatial–temporal association network of food firms. By contrast, raising the immune probability and direct immune probability helps contain the scale of risk spread. (2) The intensity of corporate resonance diffusion is positively correlated with corporate influence and media influence, and negatively correlated with corporate social responsibility, media information disclosure intensity, government penalty intensity, and government regulatory information transparency. It exhibits an inverted U-shaped relationship with corporate risk preference and a positive U-shaped relationship with media reporting preference. (3) Both corporate influence and media influence reinforce corporate resonance diffusion, while government regulation effectively mitigates it. Firms with moderate risk preference are most significantly affected by extreme media coverage; corporate social responsibility and media information disclosure intensity can jointly suppress diffusion at these nodes. Government regulation exerts a stronger inhibitory effect on corporate resonance diffusion than the amplifying effect exerted by media communication. Full article

Background: Pakistan is one of only two countries where wild poliovirus type 1 (WPV1) continues to persist. Vaccine refusals challenge efforts to end the virus, especially in high-risk communities. Methods: A qualitative exploratory study took place from September to November 2025 in three High-Risk Union Councils (HRUCs) of Karachi, Pakistan. The study examined reasons for refusing the polio vaccine and identified specific communication and operational strategies to improve vaccine acceptance. A total of 23 in-depth interviews and 10 focus group discussions were conducted with 71 participants, including parents who refuse the vaccine, polio program staff, physicians, and government stakeholders. Data were analyzed using a sequential inductive and deductive thematic approach, mapping findings onto the Socio-Ecological Model (SEM) with NVivo 15 (Lumivero, Denver, CO, USA). Results: Factors influencing polio vaccine refusals were interconnected and spanned multiple levels. At the intrapersonal level, campaign fatigue, a lack of knowledge about poliomyelitis, concerns about side effects, and rumors about infertility were common. Community-level factors included household gatekeepers, local influencers, and digital misinformation. Institutional barriers included weak communication from the frontline, inadequate supervision, workforce shortages, poor tracking of refusals, and limited involvement of physicians. At the policy level, refusals were linked to distrust in governance, poor municipal services, and dissatisfaction with vertical campaign methods. Recommended strategies included integrating polio services with routine immunization and primary healthcare, strengthening counseling by physicians, engaging trusted local influencers and community leaders, expanding targeted social media campaigns to counter misinformation, implementing quick responses to rumors, enhancing workforce capacity, and using data-driven microplanning, including targeted SNIDs and focused interventions in areas with chronic refusals. Conclusions: Polio vaccine refusals are shaped by social, communication, operational, and structural factors. Improving communication and operational guidelines by reducing the number of campaigns, increasing active engagement at the frontline, integrating polio activities into routine health services, and addressing misinformation with a dynamic communication strategy may enhance vaccine acceptance and support polio eradication efforts. Objective: This study investigates the relationship between social media use and consumer purchase intentions or out-of-home food choices in the Polish gastronomic market, focusing specifically on variations across generations. Methodology: Data were collected between May and July 2024 through a diagnostic survey using the Computer-Assisted Web Interviewing (CAWI) technique (N = 1099). Respondents were recruited via a non-probability quota sampling approach based on strict demographic inclusion criteria. To test the research hypotheses regarding generational variations in market behaviour, a multivariate discriminant function analysis was performed using Statistica 13.1 PL. A preliminary pilot study (N = 30) confirmed the initial questionnaire readability and overall consistency (Cronbach’s alpha = 0.87), while subscales were treated independently during the main analysis. Results: Multivariate models were found to be highly significant, revealing clear differences between age groups. The youngest cohort (aged 18–35) relies heavily on Instagram and TikTok, showing distinct patterns regarding visual triggers such as “instagrammable” aesthetics, digital validation, and menu uniqueness alongside weight loss claims. Conversely, seniors (aged 61 and older) lean unexpectedly towards X. This older segment displays pragmatic, utility-driven motives, searching for detailed textual data about ingredients and the health-promoting properties of food. General product quality and calorie control were identified as universal factors that do not vary by generation. Conclusions and Managerial Implications: The digital transformation of the Polish restaurant industry does not follow a single path. Social media is closely linked to modern customer journeys, with physical dining spots frequently serving as spaces for socialisation. Consequently, restaurant operators should move away from mass communication and adopt a selective omnichannel strategy, where message formats shift from visual appeal to factual, nutrition-oriented text that is tailored to the digital literacy and dietary needs of each generation. Prebiotics are predominantly indigestible carbohydrate-based substrates selectively-utilized by beneficial gut-microbes to support host-health. We previously developed protein-containing prebiotics that co-deliver carbohydrate and protein substrates to the colon, where gut-microbes compete for the limited nitrogen availability, thereby enhancing microbial growth, metabolic activity, and host health compared with conventional carbohydrate prebiotics. Resveratrol is a grape-derived polyphenol with antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and emerging prebiotic activity. Here, we developed a multifunctional protein-containing prebiotic system based on Maillard conjugates of 2′-fucosyllactose–potato protein hydrolysate (2′-FL-PPH) micelles encapsulating resveratrol, followed by genipin crosslinking. This crosslinked 2′-FL-PPH-resveratrol system is designed to limit premature protein and resveratrol absorption, enhancing their colonic co-delivery. We characterized the encapsulation efficacy, physicochemical properties, digestibility and colonic delivery. The conjugates (10 mg/mL 2′-FL-PPH) effectively entrapped resveratrol (600 µM), exhibiting an average particle size of ~28 nm and an encapsulation efficiency of 79.5 ± 4.9%. Binding studies demonstrated predominantly hydrophobic interactions between resveratrol and 2′-FL-PPH. The conjugates prevented resveratrol crystallization in aqueous media, while genipin crosslinking enhanced resistance to simulated gastrointestinal digestion and inhibited premature resveratrol release, increasing the fraction expected to reach the colon. Collectively, this system enables colonic co-delivery of carbohydrate, peptides, and resveratrol, providing a novel strategy for promoting beneficial-microbiota and gut-health. Full article

The development of sustainable adsorbents from industrial biowaste has become an important strategy for reducing the environmental impact of both solid waste generation and wastewater pollution. In this study, residual Saccharomyces pastorianus biomass recovered from the brewing industry was immobilized in a polymeric matrix and evaluated as a bio-composite for the removal of reactive dyes from aqueous media. Orange 16 was selected as the target molecule. Batch biosorption experiments were conducted to identify the optimum operating conditions and to determine the adsorption capacity through Langmuir isotherm analysis. The performance of the biosorbent was subsequently validated under continuous-flow conditions in a fluidized-bed reactor, where the effects of flow rate on column (3.8 and 8.5 mL/min) efficiency were investigated. Experimental breakthrough curves were analyzed using the Clark, Yan, Bohart–Adams, and Yoon–Nelson models, which adequately described the dynamic biosorption process, particularly at the lower flow rate. The best agreement was obtained at a flow rate of 3.8 mL/min, an initial dye concentration of 87 mg/L, and a biosorbent mass of 19.5 g. The developed bio-composite material exhibited efficient dye removal and stable operation, demonstrating that residual brewing biomass can be successfully transformed into a low-cost and sustainable biosorbent suitable for continuous treatment of reactive-dye-containing wastewaters. Non-human animals are systematically excluded from public narratives, rarely recognized as sentient subjects, and instead framed within anthropocentric narratives of production and consumption; efforts to challenge this pattern and make the more-than-human world visible often encounter editorial resistance and structural constraints. This study examines how anti-speciesist journalists in Spanish written media navigate such resistance to make non-human animals legitimate subjects of news. Drawing on semi-structured interviews with nine self-identified anti-speciesist journalists, analysed through reflexive thematic analysis, the study identifies strategies organized across four non-mutually exclusive categories, namely, discursive, relational, framing, and structural, ranging from self-censorship and strategic language use to coalition-building and the creation of independent platforms. Findings reveal a key distinction between visibility strategies, which succeed in securing publication, and root-level strategies, which challenge the carnist and anthropocentric assumptions structuring newsworthiness itself. These practices reveal the pragmatism, creativity, and resilience of journalists working under structural, ideological, and normative constraints, while also highlighting the limits of anti-speciesist reporting within mainstream media. The study contributes to Critical Animal Media Studies, environmental communication, and journalism research by illuminating the intersection of ethical advocacy, professional strategy, and counter-hegemonic practice and offers recommendations for expanding coverage of the more-than-human world across ideological, editorial, and structural divides. Both preparations, characterized by nanoparticle tracking analysis and transmission electron microscopy, displayed similar size distributions (30–200 nm) and concentrations. Moreover, both preparations showed enrichment of the EV-associated marker CD63, with no detectable GAPDH and only minimal Grp94 signals in a subset of samples. mRNA profiling revealed that MBE-enriched fractions were selectively enriched in RUNX2, whereas other osteogenesis-related transcripts were comparable between them. Functional analyses demonstrated that both EV populations promoted osteogenic differentiation of hBMSCs, although with distinct biological profiles. MBE-enriched fractions were associated with higher alkaline phosphatase activity under control conditions, whereas MEs induced greater osteocalcin expression and showed a numerical tendency toward increased matrix mineralization, particularly under osteogenic conditions. These findings suggest that extracellular vesicles associated with different extracellular compartments exhibit distinct osteogenic activities rather than a uniform biological effect. Although the matrix-bound preparation likely contains extracellular matrix-associated components co-isolated during the extraction procedure, the present study highlights the importance of extracellular compartmentalization in shaping EV-associated bioactivity and provides a foundation for future studies aimed at optimizing EV-based strategies for bone regeneration. Background: Australia has experienced high rates of antibiotic shortages, yet little is known about how Australian pharmacists experience and manage them. This study aimed to explore Australian community and hospital pharmacists’ experiences of antibiotic shortages, including their perceived clinical impact and approaches to managing shortages. Methods: An exploratory qualitative study using semi-structured interviews was conducted with Australian community and hospital pharmacists between May and August 2024. Participants were recruited via convenience sampling through professional networks and social media. Interviews were audio-recorded, transcribed verbatim, and analysed thematically using an inductive–deductive approach, with coding performed independently by two researchers. Results: Fifteen interviews were conducted before data saturation was reached. Sixty percent of participants were female, 67% worked in hospital settings, and pharmacists were located across five Australian states. Four overarching themes were identified: factors driving shortages, communication and collaboration, impact of shortages, and mitigation and prevention. Pharmacists described antibiotic shortages as frequent and unpredictable, attributing them to supply-chain vulnerabilities, limited manufacturing, and market competition. Shortages were reported to affect treatment choice, contribute to antimicrobial resistance concerns, increase pharmacist workload and stress, and negatively affect patients. Pharmacists used strategies such as stock management, collaboration, and importing alternatives, but felt that lasting solutions required coordinated national action. Conclusions: Australian pharmacists perceive antibiotic shortages as a complex challenge affecting patient care, antimicrobial stewardship, workload, and healthcare efficiency. While pharmacists have developed reactive strategies to manage shortages, stronger communication, collaboration, and national policy coordination, alongside improved supply-chain resilience, are needed to reduce the impact of future shortages. The fight against disinformation has become a major issue within the European context and, therefore, also affects public media. This research analyzes the evolution, over the years 2023 and 2024, of the perceptions held by the European regional public broadcasters that make up the CIRCOM network, as they pertain to this struggle. To this end, a total of 28 interviews were conducted, including with the heads of 21 broadcasters from 16 countries, with the aim of observing the possible similarities and differences between different geographical areas (northern, southern, eastern and western Europe), including by comparing with the Spanish regional broadcasters and by determining the main needs and challenges in this regard. It is evident that the fight against disinformation is a very important issue for 80% of those interviewed. Roughly three-quarters of networks combine human and digital resources in their verification processes, though only about one in five has a dedicated fact-checking department. Among the main challenges is the need to strengthen audiences’ media literacy, to incorporate specialized professional profiles in combating disinformation, and to understand new technological tools that may be involved in disinformation, such as AI-generated image manipulation. It is essential that regional public television stations consolidate their position throughout Europe as a benchmark in the production of truthful information and in the development of joint strategies to strengthen verification and media literacy. Although differences between the media systems reflect their distinct institutional structures, the disparities in counter-disinformation resources warrant collective attention. Full article

Sesquiterpene lactones (SLs) are privileged medicinal scaffolds, offering potent bioactivities driven by their reactive α-methylene-γ-lactone motif. This review highlights the literature published up to the first half of 2026, detailing the synthetic methodologies utilized to optimize SLs via Michael addition. We critically evaluate how these structural transformations translate into biological and pharmacokinetic improvements. Specifically, the resulting Michael adducts achieve significantly enhanced solubility in aqueous media and highly refined drug–target interactions. Addressing a clear literature gap unaddressed since earlier foundational reviews, this focus review highlights the literature published up to the first half of 2026. By explicitly correlating synthetic strategies with pharmacological outcomes, such as enhanced efficacy and target specificity, this review provides medicinal chemists with a robust framework to accelerate the development of next-generation SL-based therapeutics.
