Mining activities in a quarry significantly interfere with the landscape, weaken its ecological functions, disrupt the continuity of habitats and change its natural character. The aim of this study is to present a robust, transparent, and participatory methodological framework centered on the Reclamation Quality Index, which enables a comprehensive and repeatable assessment of reclamation quality. At a time when the restoration of functional, ecologically stable and long-term sustainable landscapes is increasingly important, there is a need for reliable tools to assess the quality of restoration. This article presents an original methodology for the evaluation of quarry reclamation, which combines scientific precision with practical applicability. The proposed Reclamation Quality Index is built on multidisciplinary foundations and uses the Delphi methodology, through which expert knowledge and weighted preferences enter the evaluation process. A tool designed in this way makes it possible to quantify the quality of land restoration, identify the benefits of individual interventions, support effective planning, and strengthen the strategic management of post-mining transformation. At the same time, the Reclamation Quality Index creates space for the application of the principles of ecological stability and integration of the landscape as a living, dynamic system in the process of restoration. With its structure and philosophy, the methodology represents a prospective approach to the evaluation and planning of the post-extraction landscape. Its application goes beyond academia, as it can serve as a support for environmental policymaking, landscape planning, and assessing the quality of restoration in practice. Full article

In light of the persistent environmental degradation driven by fossil fuels, developing new energy sources is essential for achieving sustainability. The recent surge in electric vehicle adoption has underscored the significance of new energy batteries. However, the supply chains of new energy battery manufacturers face multiple sustainability risks, which impede sustainable practice adoption. To tackle these challenges, leanness philosophy is an effective tool, and Industry 5.0 enhances its efficacy significantly, further mitigating sustainability risks. This study integrates the supply chain, leanness philosophy, and Industry 5.0 by applying quality function deployment. A novel four-phase hybrid MCDM model integrating the fuzzy Delphi method, DEMATEL, AHP, and fuzzy VIKOR, identified five key sustainability risks five core leanness principles, and eight critical Industry 5.0 enablers. By examining a Chinese new energy battery manufacturer as a case study, the findings aim to assist managers and decision-makers in mitigating sustainability risks within their supply chains. Wildlife strikes in aviation are among the most reported safety incidents. As such, strikes have become the fundamental unit of understanding of the risk posed by wildlife. However, the management of wildlife risks to aviation has shifted to a hazard management philosophy. This literature review examines the argument that current wildlife strike reporting requirements are inadequate for modern wildlife hazard management techniques. This review utilised bibliometric analysis software to identify relevant academic research sourced from the Web of Science, as well as industry materials, to compile a final catalogue (n = 542). Further filtering revealed a limited set of relevant papers (n = 42) and even fewer papers that addressed the above question. Analysis of these papers and the wider catalogue noted limitations in current reporting requirements as they relate to hazard and risk management concepts. This analysis was supplemented with a review of international standards and relevant national requirements, concluding that while academics and industry have adopted systematic safety and hazard management techniques, and international guidance material has kept pace, international standards, the foundation for many national reporting systems, remain decades behind. This paper proposes the use of robust consensus-building methodologies, such as the Delphi technique, in the industry as a means of streamlining and supporting international standards development. Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) has gained significant attention from both industry and academia as an effective approach to managing product complexity. Despite its progress, current MBSE concepts, tools, languages, and methodologies face notable challenges in industrial applications, particularly in addressing design variability, ensuring model consistency, and enhancing operational efficiency. Based on the authors’ industry observations and literature analysis, this paper identifies the primary limitations of traditional MBSE, and introduces MBSE 2.0, a next-generation evolution characterized by comprehensive, integrated, and intelligent features. Key enabling technologies, such as model governance, integrated design methods, and AI-enhanced system design, are explored in detail. Additionally, several preliminary explorations were introduced under the guidance of the MBSE 2.0 philosophy. This study introduces the MBSE 2.0 concept to stimulate discussion and guide future efforts in academia and industry, emphasizing key advancements and highlighting several key and pressing perspectives to alleviate current limitations in industrial practice. In the context of the new developmental philosophy, this study aimed to address the bottleneck of regional sustainable development; it constructs a three-system evaluation indicator system for Industrial Structure Optimization (ISO), Ecological Environment Management (EEM), and Socio-economic Development (SED), based on panel data from 20 cities in the Western Taiwan Straits Economic Zone between 2011 and 2023. To reveal how the synergistic development of the three subsystems in different domains can achieve sustainable development through their interactions and to analyze the dynamic patterns of the three subsystems, this study employed the panel vector autoregression (PVAR) model to examine the interactions between subsystems. Additionally, drawing on the framework of evolutionary economics, the study quantified the temporal evolution and spatial characteristics of the coupling coordination level among the three subsystems based on the results of the degree of coupling coordination model. The results indicate the following: (1) ISO shows a significant upward trend, EEM slightly declines, and SED experiences minor fluctuations before accelerating. (2) ISO, EEM, and SED exhibited self-reinforcing effects. (3) The degree of coupling, coordination, and coupling coordination all exhibit a trend of “fluctuating and increasing initially, followed by steady growth”. The spatial patterns of the degree of coupling, coordination, and coupling coordination have shifted from “decentralized” to “centralized”, with clear signs of synergistic development. (4) The difference in the degree of coupling coordination along the north–south direction remained the primary factor contributing to inter-regional disparities. Regions with the higher degrees of coupling coordination were concentrated in the southeastern coastal areas, while those with the lower degrees of coupling coordination appeared in the northeastern mountainous areas and southwestern coastal areas. (5) The spatial connection in the strength of the degree of coupling coordination has gradually increased, with notable intra-provincial connections and weakened inter-city connections across the province. The study’s results provided decision-making references for the construction of a sustainable development community. Full article

The advent of technology has necessitated that tertiary institutions incorporate learning management systems tools into academia for teaching and learning activities. However, there is a slow adoption of these tools. This research study aimed to establish the challenges academics face when using technology in tertiary institutions. The technology acceptance model was used as the theoretical foundation in this study. The study utilised an interpretivist philosophy relying on a qualitative research approach using interview data with a sample of fifteen academics. Thematic analysis was used as a means of data analysis. The findings offer insights into addressing the challenges faced by academics when using technology in teaching and learning, and the role of technology in enhancing the throughput rates. Tertiary institutions’ management should support and prioritise the use of technology to enhance throughput and address the critical skills shortage in the higher education sector. The study, therefore, recommends that lecturers receive continued training as they are not technology savvy and that students be offered continued support throughout their studies at tertiary institutions. Despite advanced aviation safety systems, recurring operational failures demonstrate that current safety management system (SMS) implementation practices remain predominantly reactive, with organizations adopting SMS frameworks theoretically embracing Safety-II philosophy while continuing Safety-I-oriented reactive management. This study develops an integrated framework for implementing both Safety-I and Safety-II principles in aviation safety management, addressing the gap between SMS theoretical requirements and actual implementation. Using the HEAR (human error analysis and reduction) framework, we analyzed three representative aviation cases involving FMS operation, turbulence response, and aircraft energy management through a qualitative multiple-case study design. Data collection utilized internal safety reports, official investigation reports, and reconstructed operational scenarios. The analysis employed a four-phase approach integrating predetermined categorization with inductive pattern recognition. Results revealed that 87% of all causes were organizational factors—6.7 times higher than individual/task factors (13%)—yet safety management responses primarily target individual behaviors. We defined “flight crew’s resilient behavior” and developed implementation guidelines by integrating the HEAR framework with the LPAC (learn, plan, adapt, coordinate) model and PAM (pressures, adaptations, and manifestations) framework. Effectiveness evaluation demonstrated a transition from 54 discrete contributing factors to 19 systematically related factors with clearer implementation pathways. Our integrated framework enables organizations to systematically implement both Safety-I analytical capabilities and Safety-II adaptive responses, transforming safety management from reactive “failure prevention” to proactive “success expansion”. Objectives: To identify the factors influencing the job satisfaction of midwives working in birthing rooms with a medium to high level of obstetric intervention. Methods: A qualitative phenomenological–hermeneutic design based on Heideggerian philosophy was implemented. A study involving 25 participants, midwives, and resident nurses (RINs) was conducted. Residents were included to enrich the analysis with their critical perspectives with regard to interventional procedures and exposure to acts of obstetric violence. Convenience sampling was used. Data were collected from four focus groups in three hospitals in the region and one in-depth interview between 30 September 2022 and 23 June 2023. The testimonies were recorded and transcribed verbatim, and data analysis was carried out using an inductive–deductive approach. The triangulation of data and researchers was used to minimise potential bias. Results: The participants highlighted the following key dimensions or areas that contribute to midwives’ job satisfaction in the labour and birthing room: maternal satisfaction, professional competencies, multidisciplinary team, working conditions, and interventions during childbirth. Conclusions: These findings may inform healthcare management strategies to reduce burnout and improve working conditions in maternity care settings. Full article

This paper examines the challenges of our hyperconnected society through the lens of Daoist philosophy, specifically drawing on the thoughts of Laozi and the Zhuangzi. This study begins by analyzing the broad implications of hyperconnectivity in contemporary society, highlighting how unprecedented levels of interconnection shape modern human experience. The analysis identifies three critical challenges in our hyperconnected world: the individual cognitive level (where connected subjects experience confirmation bias and cognitive dissonance); the structural level (where systemic forces diminish individual autonomy and create unpredictable outcomes); and the amplified social level (where the interaction between individual and structural factors intensifies social division, isolation, systemic risks, and cascading failures). This paper approaches these challenges through three key Daoist concepts: Dao as the foundational principle of reality, Qi as the underlying logic of interconnection, and the complementary principles of Wu-wei (non-action) and Ziran (self-so-ness) as frameworks for managing desire. These concepts yield two crucial insights: the need to deepen our understanding of connectivity’s practical dimensions and the importance of maintaining critical distance between means and ends through persistent questioning of fundamental principles. As technological advancement and material concerns increasingly dominate society, Daoist philosophy offers both a warning about the potential loss of human essence and practical guidance for maintaining purposeful awareness through Wu-wei and Ziran. The concept of Qi further illuminates humanity’s fundamental embeddedness in universal interconnection. This paper concludes by proposing ways to bridge theory and practice, emphasizing expanded awareness of connectivity, philosophical inquiry into essence, and the enduring relevance of humanistic wisdom. Today, businesses operate to maintain their assets sustainably and profitably, but they face resource scarcity and environmental problems. In order to overcome this problem, businesses should focus on environmental, social, and economic development while considering the environment. In this context, green human resource practices and sustainable leadership, which have emerged from green management philosophy, increase the environmental awareness of businesses and support them in protecting resources while also positively affecting many human resource metrics, such as performance and commitment at the business level. In recent years, definitions have been established, and scales have been developed within the scope of green human resource and sustainability leadership research, which has been a subject of interest in the relevant literature. Because studies measuring the effects of green human resource management (HRM) and sustainable leadership at the business level are rare, this work is important as it provides resources for further research. In this context, this research aimed to analyze the effects of green human resource management practices and sustainable leadership on employee commitment. In order to reach a general judgment about a system consisting of a large number of people and find answers to the research questions, the general screening model, which allows for single or relational screenings over the entire system or a group of samples to be taken from it, was selected. The correlational model, a type of quantitative research model, was used to examine the relationships between the variables within the scope of this research. According to the results, the effects of green HRM practices on organizational commitment change significantly through the mediation of sustainable leadership. The findings reveal that, for organizations seeking to foster a sustainable business culture, merely implementing green policies is insufficient; leaders must also embody these practices and motivate their workforce. Such an integrated strategy enhances both ecological sustainability and employee commitment, thereby securing a lasting competitive edge. Full article

This study investigates the use of generative AI tools to create culturally inclusive case studies in postgraduate project management education, addressing a critical gap in existing research. While prior literature highlights the benefits of culturally responsive teaching (CRT) practices, there is notable lack of exploration into how generative AI can be leveraged to develop culturally relevant learning materials. Using an interpretivist philosophy and action research methodology, the study engaged eight international students to evaluate the effectiveness of AI-generated case studies tailored to diverse cultural contexts. The major contribution of this study is the development of a structured framework of strategies and considerations that guides educators in designing culturally inclusive materials using generative AI tools. The inclusion of clearly defined strategies provides educators with practical guidance, while the accompanying considerations act as essential safeguards, encouraging critical reflection on potential risks such as bias, stereotyping, and ethical misuse. The findings hold significant implications for educational practice, emphasising the ethical use of AI, targeted professional development for educators, and the potential for scalable, inclusive teaching strategies that enhance student engagement, equity, and learning outcomes in multicultural classrooms. Comparative Study of Structural and Quality Controls for Grouted Sleeve Connections in Different Standards: Connection Technology, Design, and Mechanical Requirements

As one type of critical load-bearing element in precast concrete structures, grouted sleeve (GS) connections enable efficient force transmission between reinforcing bars while maintaining structural integrity. Despite their growing global adoption, significant variations exist in design philosophies, construction specifications, and performance requirements among regional standards. Through bibliometric analysis, the most active countries and regions in GS application and research worldwide were identified, and the relevant technical standards established by these countries and regions were systematically reviewed. By comparing standards from Asia, the Americas, Europe, and Oceania, the main differences in design philosophy, construction quality control, material specifications, and performance requirements among these standards were analyzed and identified. The results show that different standards have a conceptual difference at the materials and quality control level, with one approach focusing on stricter management of sleeve materials and more detailed on-site construction requirements, and another approach emphasizing testing-based methods and third-party verification. These standards can be divided into the following two categories for the design limits of GS tensile performance: one category takes multiples of the yield strength of the connected reinforcing bars as the limit, and the other category takes multiples of the tensile strength of the connected reinforcing bars as the limit. Regarding mechanical performance requirements, standards using the ultimate tensile strength of the connected reinforcing bars as the control parameter differ from those using multiples of yield strength in their performance requirements for connections of low-strength and high-strength reinforcing bars. The variation in yield-to-tensile strength ratios among steel grades across different countries is a key factor leading to these different requirements. When using the uniform steel bar material properties specified in the standard for quantification, as the bar strength increases from approximately 240 MPa to 600 MPa, the minimum required ratio of the limits for standards based on multiples of yield strength and multiples of tensile strength increases from 0.79 to 1.07. When applying GS connections to reinforcing bars of varying strength levels, using fixed strength multiplier requirements may result in uneconomical designs or create technical challenges in achieving the required strength. Background/Objectives: Tablet is the most popular oral solid dosage form, and high-shear wet granulation and tableting (HSWGT) is a versatile technique for manufacturing tablets. The conventional pharmaceutical development for HSWGT is carried out in a step-by-step mode, which is inefficient and may result in local optimal solutions. Inspired by the co-design philosophy, a formulation–process–product integrated design (FPPID) framework is innovatively brought forward to enable the target-oriented and simultaneous exploration of the formulation design space and the process design space. Methods: A combination of strategies, such as a material library, model-driven design (MDD), and simulation-supported solution generation, are used to manage the complexity of the multi-step development processes of HSWGT. The process model was developed at the intermediate level by incorporating dimensionless parameters from the wet granulation regime map approach into the process of the partial least square (PLS) model. The tablets tensile strength (TS) and solid fraction (SF) could be predicted from the starting materials’ properties and process parameters. The material library was used to diversify the model input and improve the model’s generalization ability. Furtherly, the mixture properties calculation model and the process model were interconnected. Results: A four-step FPPID methodology including the target definition, the formulation simulation, the process simulation, and the solution generation was implemented. The performance of FPPID was demonstrated through the efficient development of high-drug-loading tablets. Conclusions: As a holistic design method, the proposed FPPID offers great opportunity for designers to handle the complex interplay in the sequential development stages, facilitate instant decisions, and accelerate product development. The food industry at the global and local levels is increasingly exposed to severe challenges and disruptions because of rising consumer demands, and rigorous and strict local and international regulations related to food safety and environmental concerns, all of which necessitate the adoption of proven and recognized management philosophies and sustainable practices to run the manufacturing process. Although the food manufacturing industry has adopted total quality management, lean manufacturing practices, and other management philosophies, more efforts are still needed to enhance sustainable performance. The purpose of this study is to explore the integrated impact of TQM and lean manufacturing on the sustainability performance of the food manufacturing industry in Saudi Arabia. Moreover, it investigates the causal relationship between TQM and sustainability performance as well as the direct relationship between TQM and lean manufacturing. The survey questionnaire is used as the primary instrument for collecting data from food manufacturing organizations. Based on the literature review, a theoretical framework is built to hypothesize relationships between the constructs. A structural equation modeling and artificial neural network (SEM-ANN) combined approach is used to analyze the results. The findings of the present study show that TQM and lean manufacturing have a positive impact on sustainability performance. The study also identifies the list of valid constructs for total quality management and lean manufacturing, with a high impact of sustainability performance dimensions. Full article

This study explores the impact of COVID-19-related supply chain disruptions on manufacturing firms, focusing on external risks: demand, environmental, and supply. Our literature review reveals the general lack of comprehensive disruption plans and exposes the vulnerabilities in manufacturing firms with limited research addressing this issue. By adopting an interpretive research philosophy and a qualitative, inductive approach, our research delves into the operational challenges and adaptations implemented in the manufacturing sector during the pandemic through case studies. The findings reveal that COVID-19 significantly increased risks, causing demand surges, logistical disruptions, extended lead times, and labour shortages due to lockdowns, necessitating strategic shifts towards localised and digital supply chains in the manufacturing sector. Our study not only enriches the supply chain literature by detailing the pandemic’s effects and emphasising the need for robust disruption plans for enhanced resilience but also offers new insights into managing supply chain disruptions in crises, highlighting the necessity of strategic adaptations for future crisis preparedness across various industries.
