Background/Objectives: Men have historically contributed significantly to mental health nursing, particularly in inpatient settings, where their presence has supported patient recovery and safety. Despite this legacy, men remain under-represented in the nursing workforce, and addressing this imbalance is critical to workforce sustainability. This study offers a novel contribution by exploring the lived experiences, motivations, and professional identities of men in mental health nursing, an area that has received limited empirical attention. The aim of the study is to examine the characteristics, qualities, and attributes of mental health nurses who are male, which contributes to their attraction to and retention within the profession. Methods: A qualitative interpretive inquiry was conducted among nurses who were male and either currently or previously employed in mental health settings. Two focus groups were conducted using semi-structured questions to explore their career pathways, motivations, professional identities, and perceived contributions. Thematic analysis was used to identify key themes and patterns in their narratives. Results: Seven participants, with 10–30 years of experience, participated. They had entered the profession through diverse pathways, expressing strong alignment between personal values and professional roles. Five themes emerged and centred on mental health being the heart of health, personal and professional fulfillment, camaraderie and teamwork, a profound respect for individuals and compassion, and overcoming and enjoying the challenge. Conclusions: Mental health nurses who are male bring unique contributions to the profession, embodying compassion, resilience, and ethical advocacy. Their experiences challenge traditional gender norms and redefine masculinity in health care. Fostering inclusive environments, mentorship, and leadership opportunities is essential to support their growth. These insights inform strategies to strengthen recruitment, retention, and the future of mental health nursing. Full article

The sustainable development of teaching expertise in research-intensive universities remains a critical global challenge. This study investigates the distinctive characteristics of expert teachers—exemplary faculty in research universities—addressing their developmental trajectories and motivational mechanisms within prevailing incentive systems that prioritize research productivity over pedagogical excellence. Employing grounded theory methodology, we conducted iterative coding of 20,000-word interview transcripts from 13 teaching-awarded professors at Chinese “Double First-Class” universities. Key findings reveal the following: (1) Compared to the original K-12 expert teacher model, university-level teaching experts exhibit distinctive disciplinary mastery—characterized by systematic knowledge structuring and cross-disciplinary integration capabilities. (2) Their developmental trajectory transcends linear expertise acquisition, instead manifesting as a problem-solving continuum across four nonlinear phases: career initiation, dilemma adaptation, theoretical consciousness, and leadership expansion. (3) Sustainable teaching excellence relies fundamentally on teachers’ professional passion, sustained through a virtuous cycle of high-quality instructional engagement and external validation (including positive student feedback, institutional recognition, and peer collaboration). Universities must establish comprehensive support systems—including (a) fostering a supportive and flexible learning atmosphere, (b) reforming evaluation mechanisms, and (c) facilitating interdisciplinary collaboration through teaching development communities—to institutionalize this developmental ecosystem. Thailand’s southern border provinces need youth-focused multicultural leadership programs integrating local religious–cultural elements, community involvement, and long-term evaluation to enhance social cohesion and sustainable development. This study aimed to develop and evaluate a program to foster multicultural leadership among youth in Thailand’s three southern border provinces. The research was conducted in two phases. The first phase involved synthesizing key multicultural leadership characteristics, designing a structured program and assessing its relevance and coherence through expert evaluation. The second phase focused on empirical validation by implementing the program with 22 selected youth participants, employing repeated-measures analysis of variance to assess its effectiveness. Additionally, experts evaluated the program’s validity, appropriateness, cost-effectiveness, utility, and feasibility. The resulting program, “EARCA”, comprises five core components: Experiential Exposure, Active Exploration & Engagement, Reflective Thinking & Analysis, Concept Integration & Synthesis, and Application & Extension. Expert assessments confirmed its appropriateness at the highest level, with a consistency index ranging from 0.8 to 1.0. Statistical analyses demonstrated significant improvements in all dimensions of multicultural leadership among participants. Furthermore, the program was rated highly accurate, appropriate, cost-effective, practical, and feasible for real-world implementation. These findings offer valuable insights for policymakers and practitioners seeking to enhance multicultural leadership development through structured, evidence-based interventions. Full article

Due to globalization, companies are exposed to a culturally diversified workforce; therefore, great emphasis is placed on identifying the most effective leadership style that would be able to manage such a workforce. Although numerous studies have attempted to identify successful leadership styles in different cultural settings, none have focused on the perceptions of top managers who work in multinational corporations (MNCs) in culturally diversified surroundings. Thus, our research attempts to identify the most preferred leadership style and characteristics from the perspective of top managers in MNCs in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The 13 leadership characteristics analyzed in this study were generated from the 21 characteristics found by Global Leadership and Organizational Behavior Effectiveness (GLOBE) research. The participants, top managers in MNCs, needed to evaluate leadership styles by considering leadership characteristics. To ensure the objectiveness of the study, we analyzed their answers by applying the Fuzzy Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) method. The results indicated that the most preferred leadership characteristics were visionary, inspirational, collaborative team-oriented, and performance-oriented. Moreover, the transformational leadership style emerged as the most preferred leadership style. The study’s findings show that top managers believe that employees in MNCs in the UAE seek a leader with a vision who will inspire, motivate, and help them fulfill their true potential. Full article

This study investigates the relationship between CEO characteristics and firm performance across emerging and developed economies using both panel regression and machine learning techniques. Drawing on Upper Echelons Theory, we examine whether CEO age, tenure, gender, founder status, and appointment origin influence Return on Assets (ROA), Return on Equity (ROE), and market-to-book ratio. We apply the fixed and random effects models for inference and deploy random forest and XGBoost models to determine the feature importance of each CEO trait. Our findings show that CEO tenure consistently predicts improved ROE and ROA, while CEO age and founder status negatively affect firm performance. Female CEOs, though not consistently significant in the baseline models, positively influence market valuation in emerging markets according to interaction models. Firm-level characteristics such as size and leverage dominate CEO traits in explaining performance outcomes, especially in machine learning rankings. By integrating machine learning feature importance, this study contributes an original approach to CEO evaluation, enabling firms and policymakers to prioritise leadership traits that matter most. The findings have practical implications for succession planning, diversity policy, and performance-based executive appointments. Full article

Sub-Saharan Africa’s (SSA) corporate environment, like many emerging markets, is marked by institutional voids, weak oversight structures, and patriarchal leadership norms, which heighten the risk of real earnings management (REM). This study examines how CEO characteristics and audit committee gender diversity influence REM among listed manufacturing firms in 12 SSA countries from 2012 to 2023. Anchored in agency theory and Upper Echelon Theory, this study draws on 1189 firm-year observations and employs Pooled OLS, Random Effects, Fixed Effects, Feasible Generalised Least Squares (FGLS), and System GMM estimators. Findings show that female CEOs are consistently associated with lower REM, underscoring the ethical conservatism linked to gender-inclusive leadership. CEO ownership shows a positive and significant association with REM in System GMM, though findings vary across models, indicating potential institutional effects. The firm size is negatively and significantly related to REM in Pooled, RE, and FGLS models, but becomes nonsignificant in FE and System GMM, suggesting the role of external scrutiny may be sensitive to model dynamics. Leverage exhibits a positive and significant relationship with REM in most models, but turns negative and nonsignificant under System GMM, pointing to endogeneity concerns. Interaction effects and country-specific regressions affirm that governance impacts differ across contexts. Policy reforms should prioritise gender-diverse leadership and tailored oversight mechanisms. Full article

Leaders are critical players in determining how their employees behave in the workplace. Particularly in higher education, teachers are required to utilize psychological, social, and physical resources to perform their tasks. This, along with institutional limitations, renders the role of ethical leaders more critical for driving positive performance outcomes. In this context, the current study investigates the role of ethical leadership on innovative work behavior of university teachers in Turkey. To provide a better understanding, mediating effect of work engagement and the moderating impact of perceived organizational support are also analyzed. With a total of 211 surveys gathered in a cross-sectional manner and using partial least squares—structural equation modeling with Smart-PLS software—the hypotheses were tested. By embedding social exchange, self-determination, and organizational support theories, the current study highlights the importance of the unique characteristics of ethical leaders in academia as antecedents of innovation for teachers, implementing long-term positive changes in the faculty. When institutional support systems exist, faculty deans can trigger engagement by leveraging the facilities and initiatives of the university, ultimately enhancing the learning environment of students while tending to the wellbeing of academic staff. Background: Workplace procrastination is associated with a wide range of negative organizational outcomes. Our objectives are to systematically review the factors of workplace procrastination and the instruments used to measure this construct. Methods: Following PRISMA guidelines, we searched for papers published between 2000 and 2023 through Google Scholar, Science Direct, and Taylor & Francis, using the search terms “workplace procrastination not academic” and “employee procrastination”. Results: After screening, 33 studies were retained for analysis and were also submitted to quality assessment. The factors were grouped into two main categories, i.e., employee-related and external. Several potential factors have been investigated only in a single study, while contradictory findings have been reported regarding the effect of others, especially in culturally diverse samples. Procrastination was measured using ten different instruments, with variations in their conceptual underpinnings. Conclusions: Future advancements in understanding the factors of workplace procrastination would greatly benefit from studies on employee samples from different countries. Moreover, future research should select their workplace procrastination measures based on careful consideration of the specific facets that it aims to investigate. Our findings also suggest that addressing procrastination at work requires a comprehensive approach involving different interventions at both the organizational and individual level. Full article

The fundamental principles of “sustainable development” and “green” promoted by ESG align with the concept of “green and sustainable” development. Enhancing enterprise ESG is a methodical endeavor that necessitates enterprises to possess ESG investment capabilities, coordinate many stakeholders, and leverage the influence of prominent market players. State-owned enterprises (SOEs) possess a specific level of support within a nation’s economy. SOEs serve as a fundamental pillar of China’s socialist economic system with distinctive characteristics, significantly influencing business conduct and reinforcing corporate value orientation. Consequently, the capacity of SOEs to assume a strategic leadership role in enhancing supply chain ESG performance is of paramount importance for the general elevation of ESG standards among Chinese enterprises. Limited research has investigated the transmission effect of the ESG performance among chain enterprises from a supply chain viewpoint, particularly regarding the pivotal role of SOEs in enhancing the ESG performance of these entities. This article examines the influence of SOEs’ ESG performance on the ESG performance of supply chain enterprises, focusing on the spillover effects of SOEs’ ESG performance within the supply chain context. It investigates how SOEs lead upstream and downstream enterprises in enhancing their ESG performance, aiming to address the existing cognitive gap in this area and provide substantial evidence for pertinent theories and practices. This article, employing an empirical research methodology, discovers that the ESG performance of state-owned supply chain core enterprises significantly enhances the ESG performance of enterprises in a supply chain, while non-state-owned supply chain core enterprises do not exhibit this effect. Furthermore, research indicates that this effect is asymmetric: when the supply chain core enterprise is a SOE and the enterprises in the supply chain are non-state-owned, the leading effect is more pronounced, and this effect is more powerful for upstream enterprises. The heterogeneity test reveals that the impact of the ESG performance is more pronounced in larger state-owned supply chain core enterprises that have been publicly listed for an extended duration and operate in highly competitive markets. The conclusions of this essay address the deficiencies of current research and provide significant practical implications for the development of green supply chains in the contemporary era. Sustainable building construction (SBC) contributes immensely to attaining sustainable development initiatives. Nevertheless, SBC is not fully embraced among construction organisations in developing countries due to several challenges, suggesting the need for lasting solutions. However, uncertainty remains about the most vital characteristics/enablers that construction organisations need to adopt SBC. This study investigated the organisational enablers that contribute to SBC’s successful deployment. This study employed quantitative methodology using a structured questionnaire for data collection. With a convenient sample technique, a sample size of 281 was achieved from professionals working in the built environment in the Gauteng Province of South Africa (SA). Data were analysed with a four-step approach, including the relevant descriptive and inferential statistics. Relevant reliability and validity tests of the research instrument/measuring variables were observed, including pilot testing, Cronbach’s alpha test, Kaiser–Meyer–Olkin, and Bartlett’s sphericity test. Mean rankings followed this in conjunction with standard deviations. Likewise, the Kruskal–Wallis H-test was employed to determine statistically significant differences in the responses of the study’s respondents. Furthermore, confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was used to confirm the variables’ goodness of fit in the measurement model or latent construct (organisational enablers), indicating their significance. According to their regression values, the top five variables included commitment to innovative construction, adequate project management culture, support from top management, sound intra-organisational leadership, and social responsibility to protect the environment. Generally, the study’s findings were supported by institutional theory and resource-based view theory. The study recommends carefully considering the findings among construction organisations and policymakers. This will assist in self-assessment and decision-making regarding direct improvement initiatives and curbing unsustainable practices. Similarly, this study is positioned to encourage further investigation of organisational enablers from the perspective of the enlisted theories. Full article

Public safety personnel and frontline healthcare professionals are at increased risk of exposure to potentially psychologically traumatic events (PPTEs) and developing post-traumatic stress injuries (PTSIs, e.g., depression, anxiety) by the nature of their work. PTSI is also connected to increased absenteeism, suicidality, and performance decrements, which compromise occupational and public health and safety in trauma-exposed workers. There is limited evidence on the cost effectiveness of proactive “prevention” programs aimed at reducing the risk of PTSIs. The purpose of this meta-analysis is to measure the economic effectiveness of proactive PTSI mitigation programs among occupational groups exposed to frequent occupational PPTEs, focusing on the outcomes related to PTSI symptoms, absenteeism, and psychological wellness. Findings from 15 included studies demonstrate that proactive interventions can yield substantial economic and health benefits, with Return On Investment (ROI) values ranging widely from −20% to 3560%. Shorter interventions (≤6 months) often produced higher returns, while longer interventions (>12 months) showed more moderate or negative returns. Notably, the level at which an intervention is targeted significantly affects outcomes—programs aimed at managers, such as the 4 h RESPECT training course, demonstrated a high ROI and broad organizational impact by enhancing leadership support for employee mental health. Sensitivity analyses highlighted significant variability based on the organizational context, program design, and participant characteristics. The majority of proactive interventions successfully reduced psychological distress and enhanced workplace outcomes, although thoughtful consideration of program design and implementation context is essential. This article investigates the understanding and manifestation of safety culture within the Swedish construction industry. Specifically, through 20 interviews with safety leaders, this study explores the connection between safety culture and structures and processes on construction worksites. The theoretical framework draws on different perspectives on organisational culture, in general, and safety culture, in particular. The results highlight the importance that is placed on management and leadership in developing safety culture, with leaders setting examples and being actively involved in safety practices. Safety regulations are seen as crucial tools for change, influencing safety culture significantly. The size of the company and characteristics of employees, including challenges posed by subcontractors and language barriers, also impact safety culture. Safety training is essential for directing behaviours towards a good safety culture, and housekeeping is identified as an indicator of safety culture. In the discussion, the matter of understanding safety culture in relation to specific structures and processes on construction worksites is analysed, problematised and connected to prevailing perspectives within safety culture research. Background: Within 10 years of diagnosis, about 50% of patients with Crohn’s disease (CD) require surgery. Repeated small bowel resections can lead to the development of short bowel syndrome (SBS). It is estimated that 65–75% of CD patients are malnourished. This retrospective observational study was conducted in a Polish reference centre for home parenteral nutrition (HPN). The aim of the study was to investigate the nutritional status and characteristics of patients with CD referred to HPN and to analyse the course of their HPN treatment. Methods: The study group consisted of all adult patients (N = 46) with CD who qualified for HPN between November 2004 and April 2022. Results: The most common indication for HPN was SBS (n = 27; 58.70%), followed by ineffective gastrointestinal nutrition causing progressive malnutrition (N = 9; 19.57%), fistulas (N = 6; 13.04%), and short bowel syndrome and fistulas (N = 4; 8.70%). According to the results of Subjective Global Assessment (SGA), 47.83% (N = 22) of patients were diagnosed with severe malnutrition, followed by 15 patients (32.61%) with moderate malnutrition. Global Leadership Initiative on Malnutrition (GLIM) criteria showed that 71.73% (n = 33) of patients were malnourished on admission to the HPN centre. All patients received parenteral formulas based on individually tailored prescriptions. The results showed that patients with a stoma received statistically significantly higher PN volumes (p = 0.027) and higher amounts of amino acids (p = 0.046) and fat emulsion (p = 0.046). Septic complications were twice as common as mechanical or metabolic complications, although 43.47% of patients had no complications. At the time of data analysis, 19 patients (41.30%) had been successfully weaned from HPN, of whom 12 (26%) achieved nutritional autonomy after 136–1419 days (mean: 560 ± 380.9). Conclusions: Malnutrition is a major problem in CD patients, especially those with SBS. Early nutritional intervention and consideration of artificial nutrition in this study group (HPN) are necessary to prevent the long-term consequences of severe malnutrition. To our knowledge, this was the first study to report on Crohn’s patients referred to long-term HPN. Further studies are needed to assess the impact of HPN on functional, laboratory, and anthropometric outcomes with a view to optimising treatment outcomes. Full article

The AECO industry is currently undergoing a digital transformation, and leadership and trust are considered important factors in the successful use of digital work systems within organizations. There are indications that certain leadership qualities can promote trustful use of digital work systems; however, there is limited research on what these specific characteristics are. Therefore, it is of interest to investigate which aspects of leadership specifically promote the trustful use of digital technologies. The purpose of this study was to investigate which aspects of leadership are associated with trustful use of digital work systems. Various aspects of leadership in digital transformation were investigated in a way that has not been carried out before in the construction industry. An online survey was completed by 314 experts from various fields of expertise at Sweden’s largest infrastructure owner. The main findings showed that the most important factors for the trustful use of digital work systems were role clarity and digital literacy of the management team. It is recommended that the construction industry educate management teams about the implications of digital transformation in terms of new technologies and changing work practices and roles. This will help managers support employees by clarifying their roles and responsibilities in a complex organization. Full article

This systematic review explores key characteristics of effective vocational education and training (VET) teachers’ professional development and the transfer of its results into educational practice. Through thematic analysis of 24 journal articles indexed in Scopus and/or Web of Science from 2014 to 2024, the review identifies ten features of effective professional development and eight attributes supporting its transfer to practice. Effective professional development and its transfer emphasise reflection, engagement in professional communities of practice, and targeted approaches that address VET teachers’ needs. While effective professional development focuses on providing relevant, active, and collaborative learning experiences, effective transfer to practice places additional emphasis on teachers’ capacity, transformative leadership, personally significant, authentic, transformative, and supportive learning experiences that ensure new knowledge and skills are effectively applied in daily professional activities. This review offers recommendations to enhance the systematic organisation of professional development, promoting more targeted approaches to improve teaching quality in VET. Full article
