Managing finances in a supply chain today is not as straightforward as it once was. The world is constantly shifting—markets fluctuate, risks emerge unexpectedly—and companies are continually trying to stay one step ahead. In all this, financial resilience has become more than just a strategy. It is a survival skill. In our research, we examined how newer technologies (such as blockchain and the Internet of Things) can make a difference. The idea was not to reinvent the wheel but to see if these tools could actually make financing more transparent, reduce some of the friction, and maybe even help companies breathe a little easier when it comes to liquidity. We employed two optimization methods (Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm II (NSGA-II) and Multi-Objective Particle Swarm Optimization (MOPSO)) to achieve a balanced outcome. The goal was lower financing costs, better liquidity, and stronger resilience. Blockchain did not just record transactions—it seemed to build trust. Meanwhile, the Internet of Things (IoT) provided companies with a clearer picture of what is happening in real-time, making financial outcomes a bit less of a guessing game. However, it gives financial managers a better chance at planning and not getting caught off guard when the economy takes a turn. Full article

I use Shakespeare to teach acting to students. A key to my work is impression management: what Shakespeare called reputation. I view the management of reputation as a route into Shakespearean character, which I present to students as a mask attuned to sacred values. The physical basis from which the actor can discover the mask is what Hamlet calls ‘smoothness’, which I explain with an acting exercise. We discover the force of sacred values by noticing the ubiquity of keywords in the text such as honor, virtue, reason, shame and faith. By holding characters to the fire of their sacred values, I shift the actor’s attention from an individualist idea of authentic representation towards a sense of character as a battleground of mind-shaping. The resulting performance work is scaled up to a more expansive and energized degree than the actor may be used to delivering in a social media-saturated environment in which what is often prioritized is a quasi-confessional self-revelation. The revelation of an inner life then emerges through a committed exploration of antithetical relations, a strategy basic both to mask work and to Shakespeare’s poetics. The actor finds their personal connection to the material by facing the contradiction between the objective standards of behavior demanded of the character and the character’s attempt to control their status, that is, how they are seen. The final value of the performance work is that the actor learns how to manage their reputation so that they come to appear like a giant who is seen from a distance. Full article

Although intracranial hypertension (ICH) has traditionally been framed as simply a numerical escalation of intracranial pressure (ICP) and usually dealt with in its clinical form and not in terms of its complex underlying pathophysiology, an emerging body of evidence indicates that ICH is not simply an elevated ICP process but a complex process of molecular dysregulation, glymphatic dysfunction, and neurovascular insufficiency. Our aim in this paper is to provide a complete synthesis of all the new thinking that is occurring in this space, primarily on the intersection of glymphatic dysfunction and cerebral vein physiology. The aspiration is to review how glymphatic dysfunction, largely secondary to aquaporin-4 (AQP4) dysfunction, can lead to delayed cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) clearance and thus the accumulation of extravascular fluid resulting in elevated ICP. A range of other factors such as oxidative stress, endothelin-1, and neuroinflammation seem to significantly impair cerebral autoregulation, making ICH challenging to manage. Combining recent studies, we intend to provide a revised conceptualization of ICH that recognizes the nuance and complexity of ICH that is understated by previous models. We wish to also address novel diagnostics aimed at better capturing the dynamic nature of ICH. Recent advances in non-invasive imaging (i.e., 4D flow MRI and dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI; DCE-MRI) allow for better visualization of dynamic changes to the glymphatic and cerebral blood flow (CBF) system. Finally, wearable ICP monitors and AI-assisted diagnostics will create opportunities for these continuous and real-time assessments, especially in limited resource settings. Our goal is to provide examples of opportunities that exist that might augment early recognition and improve personalized care while ensuring we realize practical challenges and limitations. We also consider what may be therapeutically possible now and in the future. Therapeutic opportunities discussed include CRISPR-based gene editing aimed at restoring AQP4 function, nano-robotics aimed at drug targeting, and bioelectronic devices purposed for ICP modulation. Certainly, these proposals are innovative in nature but will require ethically responsible confirmation of long-term safety and availability, particularly to low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), where the burdens of secondary ICH remain preeminent. Throughout the review, we will be restrained to a balanced pursuit of innovative ideas and ethical considerations to attain global health equity. It is not our intent to provide unequivocal answers, but instead to encourage informed discussions at the intersections of research, clinical practice, and the public health field. We hope this review may stimulate further discussion about ICH and highlight research opportunities to conduct translational research in modern neuroscience with real, approachable, and patient-centered care. As BIM projects grow in volume and complexity, automated Information Compliance Checking (ICC) is becoming essential to meet demanding regulatory and contractual requirements. This study presents novel controlled vocabularies and processes for the management of information requirements, along with a structured evaluation of the Information Delivery Specification (IDS) and its associated tools. The controlled vocabularies are important as they provide support to standardization, information retrieval, data-driven workflows, and AI integration. Information requirements are classified by input type and project interaction context (phase, origin, project role, and communication), as well as by applicability (data management function, model granularity, BIM usage, and checkability). The ontology comprises seven categories: identity, geometry, design/performance, fabrication/construction, operation/maintenance, cost, and regulatory category, each linked to verification principles such as uniqueness and consistency. This enables systematic implementation of validation checks aligned with company and project needs. We introduce three ICC workflows in relation to the BIM authoring tools (inside, outside, and hybrid) and suggest key criteria for the functional and non-functional evaluation of IDS tools. Empirical results from a real project using five IDS tools reveal implementation issues with the classification facet, regular expressions, and issue reporting. The proposed ontology and framework lay the foundation for a scalable, transparent ICC within openBIM. The results also provide ICC process guidance for practitioners, a SWOT analysis that can inform enhancements to the existing IDS schema, identify possible inputs for certification of IDS tools, and generate innovative ideas for research and development. Optical networks serve as the backbone of modern communication, requiring statistical analysis and modeling to optimize performance, reliability, and scalability. This review paper explores statistical methodologies for analyzing network characteristics, dimensioning, parameter estimation, and cost prediction of optical networks, and provides a generalized framework based on the idea of convex areas, and link length and shortest path length distributions. Accurate dimensioning and cost estimation are crucial for optical network planning, especially during early-stage design, network upgrades, and optimization. However, detailed information is often unavailable or too complex to compute. Basic parameters like coverage area and node count, along with statistical insights such as distribution patterns and moments, aid in determining the appropriate modulation schemes, compensation techniques, repeater placement, and in estimating the fiber length. Statistical models also help predict link lengths and shortest path lengths, ensuring efficiency in design. Probability distributions, stochastic processes, and machine learning improve network optimization and fault prediction. Metrics like bit error rate, quality of service, and spectral efficiency can be statistically assessed to enhance data transmission. This paper provides a review on statistical analysis and modeling of optical networks, which supports intelligent optical network management, dimensioning of optical networks, performance prediction, and estimation of important optical network parameters with partial information. The terminal maneuvering area (TMA) serves as a critical transition zone between upper enroute airways and airports, representing one of the most complex regions for managing high volumes of arrival and departure traffic. This paper presents the multi-route TMA scheduling problem as an optimization challenge aimed at optimizing TMA interventions, such as rerouting, speed control, time-based metering, dynamic minimum time separation, and holding procedures; the objective function minimizes schedule deviations and the accumulated holding time. Furthermore, the problem is formulated as a mixed-integer linear program (MILP) to facilitate finding solutions. A rolling horizon control (RHC) dynamic optimization framework is also introduced to decompose the large-scale problem into manageable subproblems for iterative resolution. To demonstrate the applicability and effectiveness of the proposed scheduling models, a hub airport—Chengdu Tianfu International Airport (ICAO code: ZUTF) in the Cheng-Yu Metroplex—is selected for validation. Numerical analyses confirm the superiority of the proposed models, which are expected to reduce aircraft delays, shorten airborne and holding times, and improve airspace resource utilization. This study provides intelligent decision support and engineering design ideas for the macroscopic-level collaborative optimization framework of the Integrated Arrival–Departure and Surface (IADS) system. This article examines how governance structures and procedural timing influence the effectiveness of Territorial Management Instruments (TMIs) in Portugal. Anchored in a comparative analysis of two key legal reforms (Decree-Law No. 380/1999 and Decree-Law No. 80/2015), the study explores the tensions between democratic legitimacy and regulatory complexity. While the 1999 framework emphasized vertical coordination and participatory rights, it often led to procedural rigidity and institutional inertia. Conversely, the 2015 reform promoted digital tools and streamlined processes but introduced new governance gaps, reduced stakeholder diversity, and compressed consultation timelines. Drawing on a qualitative analysis of legal texts, policy documents, and technical documentation, the article introduces the concept of temporal governance, the idea that planning time is not merely a constraint but a governable resource. Through this lens, planning delays are reframed as either pathological (caused by inefficiency and fragmentation) or productive (used strategically to enhance environmental assessment and stakeholder engagement). A new conceptual framework is proposed to classify types of planning time, differentiate delays, and support temporal calibration in governance design. Findings show that effective planning outcomes hinge not only on legal architecture or participatory norms but also on the institutional ability to balance speed with deliberation and strategic foresight with procedural pragmatism. The paper concludes by calling for adaptive governance models that integrate time as a dynamic dimension of spatial planning, with implications for environmental resilience, democratic value, and, above all, institutional trust. Although fuzzy logic is regarded as an old modelling technique, its application in recent studies cannot be overemphasised. Therefore, the study aims to provide recent developments and ideas based on the scholarly contribution from the literature on how uncertainty can be reduced and to enhance decision-making through fuzzy logic in relation to bioenergy technologies. This is necessary to address the potential of uncertainty, inherently subjective information, and handling imprecise data, as well as identifying sustainable determinants in bioenergy technologies. Fuzzy logic application is an essential modelling technique in this regard. In this paper, a review focusing on the comprehensive and detailed applications of fuzzy logic models in bioenergy technologies is presented. From the review, it is found that the integration and combination of a fuzzy logic model plus other modelling techniques provides a better performance and is known to be effective and efficient. The review demonstrates how fuzzy logic can help to manage complicated variables, thereby ultimately promoting more effective and sustainable bioenergy solutions. Hence, for maximum attention on the review, it is suitable for stakeholders, planners, and decision makers in bioenergy research and industry. Full article

This paper analyzes the factors affecting the willingness to pay of urban households concerned with efficient waste management in Bangladesh. The multistage random sampling approach selected 1400 families from seven major cities in Bangladesh. This study addresses the socioeconomic and environmental factors that influence urban households’ willingness to pay for improved waste management services in Bangladesh. This study uniquely contributes to the literature by providing a large-scale empirical analysis of 1470 households using a logit model, revealing income, education, and environmental awareness as key predictors of WTP. Detailed survey data from respondents were then analyzed using a logit model based on the contingent valuation method. Indeed, the logit model showed that six variables (education, monthly income, value of the asset, knowledge of environment, and climate change) had a statistically significant effect on the WTP of the households. The results show that 63% of respondents were willing to pay BDT 250 or more per month. The most influential factors driving this willingness to pay were income (OR = 1.35), education level (OR = 1.45), and environmental awareness (OR = 3.56). These variables all contribute positively towards WTP. The idea is that families have some socioeconomic characteristics, regardless of which they are ready to pay for a higher level of waste collection. It is recommended that government interference be affected through various approaches, as listed below: support for public–private sector undertaking and disposal, an extensive cleaning campaign, decentralized management, cutting waste transport costs, and privatization of some waste management systems. These could be used to develop solutions to better waste management systems and improve public health. Full article

This paper provides a comparative review of digital and human (face-to-face) innovation platforms and their roles in promoting innovation and sustainability. These platforms are particularly significant in advancing sustainability objectives as outlined in Sustainable Development Goal 17, (SDG17) which emphasizes the importance of knowledge and technology partnerships to address sustainability challenges, foster innovation, and enhance scientific collaboration. Through a systematic literature review of organizational and management research over the past decade, the study identifies key features, benefits, and limitations of each platform type. Digital platforms offer scalability, asynchronous collaboration, and data-driven innovation, yet face challenges such as trust deficits, cybersecurity risks, and digital inequality. In contrast, human (face-to-face) platforms facilitate trust, emotional communication, and spontaneous idea generation, but are limited in scalability and resource efficiency. By categorizing insights into thematic tables and evaluating implications for organizations, the paper highlights how the integration of both platform types can optimize innovation outcomes. The authors argue that hybrid models—combining the scalability and efficiency of digital platforms with the relational depth of human (face-to-face) platforms—offer a promising path toward sustainable innovation ecosystems. The paper concludes with a call for future empirical research on platform integration strategies and sector-specific applications. Full article

This study investigates how persuasion, trust, and empathy from Human Resources (HR) managers affect the acceptance of nudging practices in workplace, especially when these interventions are meant to be ethical and supportive. Based on the theory of advisory nudge, the research connects ideas from Human Resource Management and ethical marketing. A quantitative method was applied using a structured questionnaire answered by 733 HR professionals in European companies. The model was tested with PLS-SEM, and results confirmed strong influence of supervisor’s persuasion and empathy on HR professionals’ perception of nudges as ethical and autonomy-enhancing. The findings also showed that empathy plays important role in how HR professionals experience the intention behind soft interventions, with gender-based differences being significant. Additional analyses with IPMA and MGA confirmed the strategic importance of trust and emotional intelligence in organizational settings. The results help to understand when a persuasive act is seen as ethical guidance and when it is not, offering theoretical and practical insights both for HR leadership and marketing communication. The study suggests future research to explore different types of nudging and include variables such as organizational culture or HR professionals’ values, to better understand the ethical acceptance of influence at work. Measuring the Sustainability of Nitrogen Fertilization in EU Agriculture: A New Index-Based Assessment in the Context of Sustainable Intensification

This study comprehensively evaluated nitrogen (N) management in 27 European countries from 1990 to 2021, utilizing the FAO and LUCAS databases. The EU countries were categorized into four groups based on their agricultural production intensities: low (L), medium–low (ML), medium–high (MH), and high (H). Additionally, a new Sustainable Nitrogen Management Indicator (SNMI) has been introduced to measure the sustainability of agricultural production. The analyses reveal significant variation in nitrogen fertilization intensity among EU countries, which correlates with differences in yield levels. Generally, higher fertilization leads to higher nutrient loss; however, the nitrogen losses per unit of yield show only minor differences between high- and low-intensity countries. From 1990 to 2021, a general improvement was observed in nitrogen management across all groups, as evidenced by a significant decline in the SNMI, indicating that agricultural production has become more sustainable. Notably, low-intensity countries showed the most significant improvement, with increased nitrogen input per hectare since the 1990s, demonstrating that moderate fertilization can enhance N use efficiency. In contrast, high-intensity countries saw decreased nitrogen inputs but still improved SNMI. These trends support the idea of sustainable intensification. The multidimensional SNMI comprehensively assesses eco-efficiency by highlighting environmental threats and production benefits. This paper demonstrates that SNMI is robust and easy to calculate using available datasets, and it can be implemented to assess nitrogen management efficiency at various scales. Full article

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic autoimmune disease that has a serious impact on both human health and animal production. The gut microbiota is a large and complex symbiotic ecosystem in animals, and the imbalance of gut microbiota is closely related to the pathogenesis of numerous diseases, including RA. The interactions among the gut microbiota, intestinal barrier, and immune system play key roles in maintaining intestinal homeostasis and affecting the development of RA. Regulating intestinal flora and metabolites provides new ideas for the prevention and treatment of RA. Probiotics can regulate the balance of intestinal flora and metabolites, improve the immune environment, and provide novel therapeutic strategies against RA. In order to summarize the role of gut microbiota and metabolite remodeling in the development and management of RA, this review will elaborate on the role of intestinal flora imbalance in the pathogenesis of RA and assess prospective therapeutic approaches that target the gut flora. Understanding the interaction among intestinal flora, metabolites, and RA will help to clarify the pathogenesis of RA and develop innovative and personalized therapeutic interventions against chronic autoimmune diseases. Continuous growth in energy demand is observed throughout the world, with simultaneous rapid consumption of fossil fuels. New effective technologies and systems are needed that allow for a significant increase in the use of renewable energy sources, such as the sun, wind, biomass, and sea tides. Currently, one of the main research challenges refers to thermal energy management, taking into account the discontinuity and intermittency of both energy supply and demand. Phase change materials (PCMs) are a useful solution in the design and manufacturing of multifunctional materials for energy storage technologies such as solar cells and photovoltaic systems. In order to design efficient PCM-based systems for energy applications, ideas and behaviors from nature should be taken account as it has created over millions of years a plethora of unique structures and morphologies in complex hierarchical materials. Inspirations for nature have been applied to improve and adjust the properties of materials for energy conversion and storage as well as in the design of advanced energy systems. Therefore, this review presents recent developments in biomimetic and bio-inspired multifunctional phase change materials for the energy storage and conversion of different types of renewable energy to thermal or electrical energy. Future outlooks are also provided to initiate integrated interdisciplinary bio-inspired efforts in the field of modern sustainable PCM technologies. Full article

Psychotic Disorder Secondary to Cerebral Venous Thrombosis Caused by Primary Thrombophilia in a Pediatric Patient with Protein S Deficiency and an MTHFR p.Ala222Val Variant: A Case Report

Background and Clinical Significance: Herein, we describe the clinical case of a 17-year-old patient with psychotic disorder secondary to cerebral venous thrombosis due to primary thrombophilia, which was related to protein S deficiency and a heterozygous MTHFR gene mutation with the p.Ala222Val variant. Case presentation: A 17-year-old female, with no history of previous illnesses, was admitted to the emergency service department due to a psychotic break. Psychiatric evaluation detected disorganized thought, euphoria, ideas that were fleeting and loosely associated, psychomotor excitement, and deviant judgment. On the fifth day, an inflammatory process in the parotid gland was detected, pointing out a probable viral meningoencephalitis, prompting antiviral and antimicrobial treatment. One week after antiviral and steroidal anti-inflammatory treatments, the symptoms’ improvement was minimal, which led to further neurological workup. MRI venography revealed a filling defect in the transverse sinus, consistent with cerebral venous thrombosis. Consequently, anticoagulation treatment with enoxaparin was initiated. The patient’s behavior improved, revealing that the encephalopathic symptoms were secondary to thrombosis of the venous sinus. Hematological studies indicated the cause of the venous sinus thrombosis was a primary thrombophilia caused by a heterozygous MTHFR mutation variant p.Ala222Val and a 35% decrease in plasmatic protein S. Conclusions: This case highlights the possible relationship between psychiatric and thrombotic disorders, suggesting that both the MTHFR mutation and protein S deficiency could lead to psychotic disorders. Early detection of thrombotic risk factors in early-onset psychiatric disorders is essential for the comprehensive management of patients. Full article
