Response of Grain Yield to Extreme Precipitation in Major Grain-Producing Areas of China Against the Background of Climate Change—A Case Study of Henan Province

Based on the panel data of daily meteorological stations and winter wheat yield in Henan Province from 2000 to 2023, this study comprehensively used the Mann–Kendall trend test, wavelet coherence analysis (WTC), and other methods to reveal the temporal and spatial evolution of extreme precipitation and its multi-scale stress mechanism on grain yield. The results showed the following: (1) Extreme precipitation showed the characteristics of ‘frequent fluctuation-gentle trend-strong spatial heterogeneity’, and the maximum daily precipitation in spring (RX1DAY) showed a significant uplift. The increase in rainstorm events (R95p/R99p) in the southern region during the summer is particularly prominent; at the same time, the number of consecutive drought days (CDDs > 15 d) in the middle of autumn was significantly prolonged. It was also found that 2010 is a significant mutation node. Since then, the synergistic effect of ‘increasing drought days–increasing rainstorm frequency’ has begun to appear, and the short-period coherence of super-strong precipitation (R99p) has risen to more than 0.8. (2) The spatial pattern of winter wheat in Henan is characterized by the three-level differentiation of ‘stable core area, sensitive transition zone and shrinking suburban area’, and the stability of winter wheat has improved but there are still local risks. (3) There is a multi-scale stress mechanism of extreme precipitation on winter wheat yield. The long-period (4–8 years) drought and flood events drive the system risk through a 1–2-year lag effect (short-period (0.5–2 years) medium rainstorm intensity directly impacted the production system). This study proposes a ‘sub-scale governance’ strategy, using a 1–2-year lag window to establish a rainstorm warning mechanism, and optimizing drainage facilities for high-risk areas of floods in the south to improve the climate resilience of the agricultural system against the background of climate change. This work analyzes the aero-elastic oscillations of cantilever beams reinforced by carbon nanotubes (CNTs). Four different distributions of single-walled CNTs are assumed as the reinforcing phase, in the thickness direction of the polymeric matrix. A modified third-order piston theory is used as an accurate tool to model the supersonic air flow, rather than a first-order piston theory. The nonlinear dynamic equation governing the problem accounts for Von Kármán-type nonlinearities, and it is derived from Hamilton’s principle. Then, the Galerkin decomposition technique is adopted to discretize the nonlinear partial differential equation into a nonlinear ordinary differential equation. This is solved analytically according to a multiple time scale method. A comprehensive parametric analysis was conducted to assess the influence of CNT volume fraction, beam slenderness, Mach number, and thickness ratio on the fundamental frequency and lateral dynamic deflection. Results indicate that FG-X reinforcement yields the highest frequency response and lateral deflection, followed by UD and FG-A patterns, whereas FG-O consistently exhibits the lowest performance metrics. An increase in CNT volume fraction and a reduction in slenderness ratio enhance the system’s stiffness and frequency response up to a critical threshold, beyond which a damped beating phenomenon emerges. Moreover, higher Mach numbers and greater thickness ratios significantly amplify both frequency response and lateral deflections, although damping rates tend to decrease. These findings provide valuable insights into the optimization of CNTR composite structures for advanced aeroelastic applications under supersonic conditions, as useful for many engineering applications. Constipation is a prevalent gastrointestinal disorder that significantly impairs quality of life. While pharmacological agents such as loperamide are widely used to induce constipation in experimental models, there is increasing interest in natural alternatives for alleviating intestinal dysfunction. In this study, we investigated the laxative effects of soybean powder fermented by Bacillus subtilis DKU_09 in a loperamide-induced rat model of constipation. The probiotic strain was isolated from cheonggukjang, a traditional Korean fermented soybean paste, and its identity was confirmed through 16S rRNA sequencing. Fermented soybean powder was characterized morphologically via scanning electron microscopy and chemically via HPLC to assess its isoflavone content. Rats were administered loperamide (5 mg/kg) for four days to induce constipation and were then treated with fermented soybean powder at doses of 100, 200, or 300 mg/kg. No pharmacological laxatives (e.g., PEG) were used as a positive control; instead, values from the treatment groups were compared with those from the loperamide-only constipation group. Key outcomes of fecal output, water content, colonic fecal retention, and gastrointestinal transit ratio were measured. The fermented product significantly improved stool frequency and moisture content, reduced colonic fecal retention, and restored gastrointestinal transit in a dose-dependent manner. Notably, the 300 mg/kg group demonstrated nearly complete recovery of fecal parameters without affecting body weight. Statistical analysis was performed using one-way ANOVA followed by Tukey’s post hoc test. These findings suggest that Bacillus subtilis-fermented soybean powder exerts synergistic laxative effects through the combined action of probiotic viability and fermentation-enhanced bioactive compounds such as aglycone isoflavones. This study supports the potential use of fermented soybean-based nutraceuticals as a natural and safe intervention for constipation and gastrointestinal dysregulation. Full article

Bi6Fe2Ti3O18 (BFTO) ceramics were synthesized via a solid-state reaction route using stoichiometric amounts of Bi2O3, TiO2, and Fe2O3 powders. A thermal analysis of the powder mixture was conducted to optimize the heat treatment parameters. Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) confirmed the conservation of the chemical composition following calcination. Final densification was achieved through hot pressing. The crystal structure of the sintered samples, examined via X-ray diffraction at room temperature, revealed a tetragonal symmetry for BFTO ceramics sintered at 850 °C. Electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) provided detailed insight into the crystallographic orientation and microstructure. Broadband dielectric spectroscopy (BBDS) was employed to investigate the dielectric response of BFTO ceramics over a frequency range of 10 mHz to 10 MHz and a temperature range of −30 °C to +200 °C. The temperature dependence of the relative permittivity (εr) and dielectric loss tangent (tan δ) were measured within a frequency range of 100 kHz to 900 kHz and a temperature range of 25 °C to 570 °C. The impedance data obtained from the BBDS measurements were validated using the Kramers–Kronig test and modeled using the Kohlrausch–Williams–Watts (KWW) function. The stretching parameter (β) ranged from ~0.72 to 0.82 in the impedance formalism within the temperature range from 200 °C to 20 °C. Full article

This study aimed to evaluate daily patterns of hourly milking frequency (MF) in dairy cows milked with an automatic milking system (AMSs), considering the effects of season, parity order (PO), days in milk (DIM), and milk yield (MY). A retrospective longitudinal study was conducted on a commercial dairy farm in southern Brazil over one year using data from 130 Holstein cows and 94,611 milking events. MF data were analyzed using general linear models. Overall, hourly MF followed a consistent daily pattern, with peaks between 4:00 and 11:00 a.m. and between 2:00 and 6:00 p.m., regardless of season, PO, DIM, or MY category. MF was higher in primiparous (2.84/day, p = 0.0013), early-lactation (<106 DIM; 3.00/day, p < 0.0001), and high-yielding cows (≥45 L/day; 3.09/day, p < 0.0001). High-yielding cows also showed sustained milking activity into the late nighttime. Although seasonal and individual factors significantly affected MF, they had limited influence on the overall daily distribution of milkings. These results suggest stable behavioral patterns within the specific AMS management conditions observed in this study and suggest that adjusting milking permissions and feeding strategies based on cow characteristics may improve system efficiency. This study assesses the quality of financial reporting in ten Central and Eastern European countries using a methodology based on natural language processing (NLP) techniques. 570 annual reports of companies listed on the main index on the stock exchanges of 10 Central and Eastern European (CEE) countries, over the period 2019–2023, were evaluated to determine the degree of convergence of the following four measurable qualitative characteristics: relevance, exact representation, comparability and understandability. The main objective is to identify consistency in the quality of accounting information based on the application of an international financial reporting framework. The applied methodology eliminates subjective variability by implementing a standardized scoring system, aligned with the criteria developed by NiCE, using libraries such as spaCy and NLTK for term extraction, respective sentiment analysis and word frequency evaluation. The results reveal significant heterogeneity in all characteristics examined, with statistical tests confirming substantial differences between countries. The investigation of relevance revealed partial convergence, with three dimensions achieving complete uniformity, while the exact representation showed the highest variability. The assessment of comparability showed a significant difference between countries’ extreme values, and in terms of comprehensibility a formalistic approach was evident, with technical dimensions outweighing user-oriented aspects. The overall quality index varied significantly across countries, with a notable average deterioration in 2023, indicating structural vulnerabilities in financial reporting systems. These findings support initial hypotheses on the lack of homogeneity in the quality of financial reporting in the selected region, despite the implementation of international standards. Full article

Although it is the wettest continent, droughts are a regular occurrence in South America. As the effects of anthropogenic influences, including climate change, become more pronounced, droughts are expected to increase in frequency and severity. The purpose of this study is to assess the relative drought vulnerability of the countries in South America. Each country is evaluated for drought exposure, sensitivity, adaptive capacity, and overall vulnerability. Sixteen drought-related indicators were used to measure the relative vulnerability of each country and to measure separate scores for exposure, sensitivity, and adaptive capacity to identify what factor(s) contributed to a country’s vulnerability. The results indicate that Ecuador, a country with a high population and limited water resources, is the most vulnerable to drought in South America, followed by Colombia and Uruguay. Conversely, the country least vulnerable to drought is Guyana, followed by Suriname and Chile. Our analysis suggests that there are both geographic and as well as economic factors influencing the relative drought vulnerability of countries in South America. Full article

Objectives: Lermoyez syndrome (LS) is a rare variant of endolymphatic hydrops with a unique clinical presentation characterized by reversible sensorineural hearing loss preceding vertigo. This review aims to synthesize available literature on LS to clarify its clinical characteristics, diagnostic approach, management strategies, and outcomes, and to highlight the distinguishing features from Menière’s disease (MD). Methods: A systematic literature review according to PRISMA guidelines was conducted from 1919 to 2025. The extracted data included demographics, symptom profiles, audiovestibular testing, imaging findings, treatment approaches, and patient outcomes. Results: A total of 23 studies were identified, reporting 53 individual cases of LS. Patients ranged from 27 to 85 years of age, with a mean age of 50.34 years and a male predominance (64.1%). The hallmark of LS across cases was a reproducible clinical pattern of unilateral low-frequency hearing loss followed by vertigo and subsequent auditory recovery. Audiometry typically confirmed reversible sensorineural hearing loss, while vestibular tests and imaging were often unremarkable, primarily used to exclude alternative diagnoses. Treatment approaches varied and were often based on MD protocols, including dietary modifications, vasodilators, diuretics, and vestibular suppressants. Prognosis was generally favorable, with most patients experiencing both hearing recovery and symptom resolution. Conclusions: LS remains a clinically distinct but underrecognized inner ear disorder. Its defining feature—the paradoxical improvement in hearing after vertigo—distinguishes it from Menière’s disease and should prompt clinicians to consider LS in differential diagnosis. Due to the rarity of LS and the lack of standardized guidelines, diagnosis and treatment rely on careful clinical assessment and individualized management strategies. Full article

This paper presents a novel EEG-based learning system designed to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of studying by dynamically adjusting the difficulty level of learning materials based on real-time attention levels. In the training phase, EEG signals corresponding to high and low concentration levels are recorded while participants engage in quizzes to learn and memorize Chinese characters. The attention levels are determined based on performance metrics derived from the quiz results. Following extensive preprocessing, the EEG data undergoes several feature extraction steps: removal of artifacts due to eye blinks and facial movements, segregation of waves based on their frequencies, similarity indexing with respect to delay, binary thresholding, and (PCA). These extracted features are then fed into a k-NN classifier, which accurately distinguishes between high and low attention brain wave patterns, with the labels derived from the quiz performance indicating high or low attention. During the implementation phase, the system continuously monitors the user’s EEG signals while studying. When low attention levels are detected, the system increases the repetition frequency and reduces the difficulty of the flashcards to refocus the user’s attention. Conversely, when high concentration levels are identified, the system escalates the difficulty level of the flashcards to maximize the learning challenge. This adaptive approach ensures a more effective learning experience by maintaining optimal cognitive engagement, resulting in improved learning rates, reduced stress, and increased overall learning efficiency. Our results indicate that this EEG-based adaptive learning system holds significant potential for personalized education, fostering better retention and understanding of Chinese characters. The orthogonal time frequency space (OTFS) is a modulation designed to transmit data in high Doppler channels where the usage of the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) is challenging. The random padded OTFS (RP-OTFS) modulation, introduced recently, is an OTFS-like waveform optimized for more precise estimation of channel state information (CSI) and, in the case of integrated sensing and communication (ISAC), for radar detection as well. One of the main drawbacks of the RP-OTFS is the high level of interference between carriers (the inter-carrier interference—ICI) of Doppler-delay (DD) grid. In the article, we optimize the RP-OTFS waveform in terms of reducing the level of pilot-to-data interference and also offer a way to reduce the data carrier interference. The reduction in the pilot-to-data interference is achieved due to the introduction of the following: (1) redistributing interferences along the DD grid, and (2) special DD grid configuration. In turn, the reduction in data carrier interference is achieved by extrapolating the estimate of channel state information. The proposed approach allows us to reduce the influence of the interference component and, as a result, to improve the probability of correct demodulation in the ISAC RP-OTFS system. Various DD grid configurations for different use cases from a radar point of view are considered in the article. The questions of choosing appropriate values of the DD grid parameters depending on the operating environment are also discussed here. In simulations, the ICI-reduced RP-OTFS is compared with its predecessor, the regular RP-OTFS, and classical modulations: OFDM and zero-padded OTFS, and benefits of its usage are shown: lower bit error rate (BER) of the transmission and higher detection probability of the radar detection. Research on the Characteristics of the Aeolian Environment in the Coastal Sandy Land of Mulan Bay, Hainan Island

The coastal sandy land in northeast Hainan Province is typical for this land type, also exhibiting strong sand activity. This study is based on wind speed, wind direction, and sediment transport data obtained at a field meteorological station using an omnidirectional sand accumulation instrument from 2020 to 2024, studying the coastal aeolian environment and sediment transport distribution characteristics in the region. Its findings provide a theoretical basis for comprehensively analyzing the evolution of coastal aeolian landforms and the evaluation and control of coastal aeolian hazards. The research results show the following: (1) The annual average threshold wind velocity for sand movement in the study area is 6.84 m/s, and the wind speed frequency (frequency of occurrence) is 51.54%, dominated by easterly (NE, ENE) and southerly (S, SSE) winds. (2) The drift potential (DP) refers to the potential amount of sediment transported within a certain time and spatial range, and the annual drift potential (DP) and resultant drift potential (RDP) of Mulan Bay from 2020 to 2024 were 550.82 VU and 326.88 VU, respectively, indicating a high-energy wind environment. The yearly directional wind variability index (RDP/DP) was 0.59, classified as a medium ratio and indicating blunt bimodal wind conditions. The yearly resultant drift direction (RDD) was 249.45°, corresponding to a WSW direction, indicating that the sand in Mulan Bay is generally transported in the southwest direction. (3) When the measured data extracted from the sand accumulation instrument in the study area from 2020 to 2024 were used for statistical analysis, the results showed that the total sediment transport rate (the annual sediment transport of the observation section) in the study area was 110.87 kg/m·a, with the maximum sediment transport rate in the NE direction being 29.26 kg/m·a. These results suggest that when sand fixation systems are constructed for relevant infrastructure in the region, the construction direction of protective forests and other engineering measures should be perpendicular to the net direction of sand transport. Enhancing Cardiovascular Autonomic Regulation in Parkinson’s Disease Through Non-Invasive Interventions

Background: Parkinson’s disease (PD) often involves autonomic dysfunction, most notably impaired baroreflex sensitivity (BRS), which disrupts cardiovascular homeostasis and contributes to orthostatic hypotension (OH). Pharmacological and invasive treatments, including deep brain stimulation, have yielded inconsistent benefits and carry procedural risks, highlighting the need for safer, more accessible alternatives. In this systematic review, we evaluated non-invasive interventions—spanning somatosensory stimulation, exercise modalities, thermal therapies, and positional strategies—aimed at improving cardiovascular autonomic function in PD. Methods: We searched PubMed, Embase, MEDLINE (Ovid), Google Scholar, ScienceDirect, and Web of Science for studies published between January 2014 and December 2024. Eight original studies (n = 8) including 205 participants met the inclusion criteria for analyzing cardiac sympathovagal balance. Results: Five studies demonstrated significant post-intervention increases in BRS. Most reported favorable shifts in heart rate variability (HRV) and favorable changes in the low-frequency/high-frequency (LF/HF) ratio. Across modalities, systolic blood pressure (SBP) decreased by an average of 5%, and some interventions produced benefits that persisted up to 24 h. Conclusion: Although sample sizes were small and protocols heterogeneous, the collective findings support the potential of non-invasive neuromodulation to enhance BRS and overall cardiovascular regulation in PD. Future research should focus on standardized, higher-intensity or combined protocols with longer follow-up periods to establish durable, clinically meaningful improvements in autonomic function and quality of life for people living with PD. The strong nonlinearity of shallow-water waves significantly affects the dynamic response of floating offshore wind turbines (FOWTs), introducing additional complexity in motion behavior. This study presents a series of 1:80-scale experiments conducted on a 5 MW FOWT at a 50 m water depth, under regular, irregular, and focused wave conditions. The tests were conducted under regular, irregular, and focused wave conditions. The results show that, under both regular and irregular wave conditions, the platform’s motion and mooring tension increased as the wave period became longer, indicating a greater energy transfer and stronger coupling effects at lower wave frequencies. Specifically, in irregular seas, mooring tension increased by 16% between moderate and high sea states, with pronounced surge–pitch coupling near the natural frequency. Under focused wave conditions, the platform experienced significant surge displacement due to the impact of large wave crests, followed by free-decay behavior. Meanwhile, the pitch amplitude increased by up to 27%, and mooring line tension rose by 16% as the wave steepness intensified. These findings provide valuable insights for the design and optimization of FOWTs in complex marine environments, particularly under extreme wave conditions. Molar pregnancy (MP) is a gestational disorder resulting from abnormal fertilization, leading to atypical trophoblastic proliferation and the formation of a complete or partial hydatidiform mole. This condition represents the most common form of gestational trophoblastic disease (GTD) and carries a significant risk of progression to gestational trophoblastic neoplasia (GTN). Although rare in high-income countries, MP remains up to ten times more prevalent in low-income and developing countries, contributing to preventable maternal morbidity and mortality. This narrative review provides an updated, practical overview of the clinical presentation, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up of MP. A key focus is the challenge of early diagnosis, particularly given the increasing frequency of first-trimester detection, where classical histopathological criteria may be subtle, leading to diagnostic errors. The review innovates by integrating advanced diagnostic methods—combining histopathology, immunohistochemistry using p57Kip2, Ki-67, and p53 markers, along with cytogenetic analysis—to improve diagnostic accuracy in early gestation. The central role of referral centers is also emphasized, not only in facilitating timely treatment and access to chemotherapy, but also in implementing standardized post-molar follow-up protocols that reduce progression to GTN and maternal mortality. By focusing on both advanced diagnostic strategies and the organization of care through referral centers, this review offers a comprehensive, practice-oriented perspective to optimize patient outcomes in GTD and address persistent care gaps in high-burden regions. Forest trees have emerged as a promising passive solution for mitigating low-frequency ground vibrations generated by railway operations, offering ecological and cost-effective advantages. This study proposes a three-dimensional semi-analytical method developed for evaluating the dynamic responses of the coupled track–ground–tree system. The thin-layer method is employed to derive an explicit Green’s function corresponding to a har-monic point load acting on a layered half-space, which is subsequently applied to couple the foundation with the track system. The forest trees are modeled as surface oscillators coupled on the ground surface to evaluate the characteristics of multiple scattered wavefields. The vibration attenuation capacity of forest trees in mitigating railway-induced ground vibrations is systematically investigated using the proposed method. In the direction perpendicular to the track on the ground surface, a graded array of forest trees with varying heights is capable of forming a broad mitigation frequency band below 80 Hz. Due to the interaction of wave fields excited by harmonic point loads at multiple locations, the attenuation performance of the tree system varies significantly across different positions on the surface. The influence of variability in tree height, radius, and density on system performance is subsequently examined using a Monte Carlo simulation. Despite the inherent randomness in tree characteristics, the forest still demonstrates notable attenuation effectiveness at frequencies below 80 Hz. Among the considered parameters, variations in tree height exert the most pronounced effect on the uncertainty of attenuation performance, followed sequentially by variations in density and radius.
