This study explores the influence of team communication (TC) and shared mental models (SMMs) on entrepreneurial team efficacy (ETE) within the context of Chinese higher education, introducing a dual-path model to reconcile the discrepancy between policy expectations and practical outcomes in entrepreneurship education. Utilizing partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) on data from 475 university-based questionnaires from March to May in 2024 in China, the research reveals that structured internal communication significantly enhances the alignment of learning goals, teammate cognition, and activity synchronization, thereby fostering SMMs as a pivotal psychological infrastructure. The findings indicate that shared learning goals and cognitive convergence are primary drivers of task performance, whereas coordinated activity states are more influential in strengthening relational cohesion. The study challenges the conventional “communication frequency–efficacy paradox” by demonstrating distinct pathways through which internal and external communication mechanisms differentiated impact task and relational outcomes. Additionally, demographic analyses highlight that team maturity and age diversity positively correlate with task efficacy, while gender and disciplinary heterogeneity show no significant association. Theoretically, this research advances the understanding of team collaboration dynamics and contextualizes Western entrepreneurship theories within China’s collectivist framework. Practically, it provides robust, evidence-based strategies for refining communication protocols and enhancing both collaborative efficiency and innovation in entrepreneurial education settings. Innovation has become a pivotal factor in driving economic growth for cities and regions. Urban innovation spaces are urban spaces where innovative economic and industrial activities, such as research, teaching, and high-tech manufacturing, are clustered. They have become hot research topics in recent years. Evaluating the performance of urban innovation spaces to promote rational resource allocation and enhance land development potential has become a critical task in urban planning. However, existing studies suffer from insufficient depth of research scales and a lack of quantitative indicators and data analysis. In response to the above gaps, this study constructed a framework for evaluating the performance of urban innovation spaces from 25 indicators of five major types, including core elements of innovation, entrepreneurship support institutions, service facilities, external environments, and diversities, aiming to quantify the performance heterogeneity of innovation spaces at the micro scale. This study took Harbin as an example and employed the entropy, kernel density estimation, and entropy-weighted TOPSIS methods, identifying four high-scoring areas of innovation spaces—the Science and Technology Innovation City area, the High-tech Industrial Development area, the core area of the old city, and the Harbin Veterinary Research Institute area—which were divided into three types: the Entrepreneurial leading area, Environmental Support area, and Balanced Development area. Finally, this study analyzed the interaction between each indicator. It was found that the correlation between the core elements of innovation and the indicators of entrepreneurship support institutions was strong and had a high degree of importance. The correlation of different types of service facility indicators is quite different, and the external environment indicators and diversity indicators are mainly affected by other indicators, especially the core elements of innovation and entrepreneurship support institutions. This paper provides a valuable tool for the performance evaluation of urban innovation spaces for researchers and urban planning decision makers. Full article

The examination of government intervention in rural tourism within developing countries remains a critical area of academic inquiry. This study investigates the relationship between government intervention in rural tourism and the income growth of rural residents by utilizing a Difference-in-Differences method based on county-level data from the China County-Level Statistical Yearbooks from 2006 to 2022. The findings indicate that government-supported rural tourism development significantly promotes income growth among rural populations. This effect can be attributed to three key mechanisms: stimulation of entrepreneurial activity, promotion of related industrial development, and optimization of resource allocation. Heterogeneity analysis reveals that the income-enhancing effect is more pronounced in counties with stronger economic foundations, more developed agricultural sectors, and favorable geographic conditions. However, the intervention has not significantly reduced the urban–rural income gap or reversed the declining trend in the labor income share, suggesting that more targeted and inclusive strategies are needed. These findings offer important policy implications for developing countries aiming to foster rural revitalization through industrial policy instruments. Full article

The high-quality development of the fishery economy (HQDF) is crucial to ensuring the sustainable supply of aquatic products. This study first conducts a theoretical analysis of the potential impacts of the digital economy (DE) on the HQDF and explores the underlying mechanisms. By using provincial panel data of China from 2011 to 2022, comprehensive indicator systems are constructed to measure the development levels of the DE and the HQDF. A two-way fixed effects model is employed to empirically examine the impact of the DE on the HQDF, with a focus on the mediating roles of technological innovation and entrepreneurial activity. The findings reveal that the DE significantly and positively drives the fishery economy towards high-quality development, and these results remain robust across various robustness tests and endogeneity treatments. Additionally, the transmission mechanisms of technological innovation and entrepreneurial activity enhancement are empirically validated. The impact of the digital economy exhibits regional heterogeneity. This study provides a scientific basis for achieving high-quality and sustainable development in the fishery sector, suggesting that fostering the digital economy, technological innovation, and entrepreneurship should be prioritized in policy interventions. In order to realize the sustainable development of a regional economy, it is necessary to explore the main influencing factors and effective ways to enhance regional economic resilience. Among them, active entrepreneurship helps an economy and society to quickly reorganize and resume normal production and life after being affected by external shocks so as to reflect better regional economic resilience and sustainability. However, the existing research results lack a discussion of the path-dependent characteristics of regional economic resilience. At the same time, most of them focus on the external impact at the macro level, while ignoring the impact of heterogeneous entrepreneurship as a kind of social culture. Thus, based on the general equilibrium theory of imperfectly competitive markets, this paper constructs a theoretical model and empirically examines the mechanism of the impact of entrepreneurship on the regional economic resilience of Chinese provinces before and after the global financial crisis in 2008. The findings reveal that proactive entrepreneurship significantly boosts regional economic resilience. Moreover, the entrepreneurial spirit and innovative spirit in entrepreneurship have differentiated effects on the technological correlation degree and complexity degree used to measure evolutionary economic resilience, respectively. The research conclusions provide supporting evidence and a policy reference for government and society to promote the “mass entrepreneurship and innovation” strategy and enhance regional economic resilience. With the rapid development of digital finance, digital financial literacy is becoming increasingly important. This study examines the impact of digital financial literacy on household entrepreneurship and finds that it significantly promotes the occurrence of household entrepreneurship. To address potential endogeneity concerns, the study employs an instrumental variable approach, and the results remain robust after a series of checks. Heterogeneity tests reveal that the effect of digital financial literacy on household entrepreneurship is particularly pronounced in rural areas, underdeveloped regions, and lower-tier cities. Further analysis indicates that digital financial literacy also enhances household entrepreneurial investment levels, with a more significant impact on survival entrepreneurship investments. In mechanism tests, the study shows that access to formal finance partially mediates the relationship between digital financial literacy and household entrepreneurship. Additionally, our research also found that digital financial literacy can promote entrepreneurship among marginalized groups, such as women and individuals with lower levels of education. Our findings offer valuable insights for policymakers aiming to foster sustainable and inclusive development. In line with the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, entrepreneurship is recognized as a key driver for achieving sustainable economic growth. Our study emphasizes the importance of promoting entrepreneurship by enhancing digital financial literacy among residents in underdeveloped areas, which is crucial for fostering inclusive growth, creating jobs, and reducing regional disparities, all of which contribute to long-term sustainable development. The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between green entrepreneurial orientation and sustainable firm performance. In order to examine this relationship, a meta-analysis method was used, and analyses were carried out with a Comprehensive Meta-Analysis Software (CMA) v4 package program. In the study, a sample of 23 articles, 42 effect sizes, and 6666 enterprises was reached through a systematic literature review. The studies included in the research were accessed by searching the keywords “green entrepreneurial orientation” and “sustainable firm performance” from Web of Science, EBSCO Host, Scopus, and Google Scholar databases, and only articles without any year limit were included. Throughout the study, statistical analyses were performed on Fisher z values and conducted under the random effects model. The effect size, heterogeneity, and publication bias analyses of green entrepreneurial orientation and sustainable firm performance and its sub-dimensions were tested separately, and the findings were interpreted by converting them into correlation coefficients. As a result of the analyses, it was found that the relationship between green entrepreneurial orientation and sustainable firm performance is positive and highly significant (p < 0.05). In addition, the relationship between financial, environmental, social, sustainable, entrepreneurial, and green innovation performance, which is the sub-dimensions of sustainable firm performance, and green entrepreneurial orientation, was found to be high and significant (p < 0.05). However, it was concluded that there is no significant relationship between green innovation performance, which is another dimension of sustainable firm performance, and green entrepreneurial orientation. Moderator analyses revealed that sector and continent have a moderating effect on the relationship between green entrepreneurship orientation and sustainable firm performance. Full article

Promoting the role of green finance (GF) in agricultural green transformation is essential for easing resource constraints and achieving sustainable agricultural development. Based on provincial-level data from 2006 to 2022, this study considers the China GF reform and innovation pilot zone as a quasi-natural experiment. It empirically examines the impact and mechanism of GF on agricultural green total factor productivity (AGTFP). The following results are obtained: (1) GF exerts a significant enhancement effect on AGTFP. (2) GF can improve AGTFP by increasing the degree of land transfer (LT). (3) The effect of GF on AGTFP is heterogeneous, and GF has a significant enhancement effect on high-environmental-regulation provinces, the eastern region, and nonmajor grain-producing regions. From these findings, this study suggests accelerating the development level of GF, improving LT policies, continuously stimulating rural entrepreneurial vitality, and further leveraging the role of GF in promoting agricultural green transformation through coordinating regional economic development. In this paper, we use survey data from the South Caucasus countries (Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia) to document the presence of gender gaps in the labor market and examine its consequences. To do the analysis, we use a numerical general-equilibrium occupational choice model with heterogeneous agents in entrepreneurial ability. We then introduce the observed gender gaps in labor-force participants, employers, and self-employed. We find that entrepreneurship gender gaps cause an average GDP loss of 6.2%, while gender gaps in labor-force participation cause an average GDP loss of 9%. Armenia (2007) displays the largest total loss and Georgia (2007, 2014) the smallest ones. We also decompose the gender gaps and their associated costs by households with different education levels and with and without dependents at home. Our results indicate that most of the income losses are driven by households with high education and those with dependents, especially those with both children and elderly at home. Full article

Foreign direct investment (FDI) has become an important factor influencing corporate operational strategies, yet the impact of its inclusiveness on corporate environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance remains unclear. In this study, the correlation of city-level FDI inclusiveness with corporate-level ESG performance was investigated based on data from 1258 Chinese A-share listed companies between 2011 and 2021. The effects of FDI inclusiveness on corporate ESG performance and its underlying mechanisms were investigated. The findings indicate that an increase in FDI inclusiveness significantly improves corporate ESG performance. Additionally, the moderating role of corporate competitive advantage and urban entrepreneurial vitality was analyzed, and the findings indicate that an increase in urban FDI inclusiveness significantly improves corporate ESG performance. Managerial green attention and corporate innovation capability play intermediary roles in the overall impact, with the total impact being positively moderated by investor attention. Furthermore, the influence of FDI inclusiveness on corporate ESG performance exhibits significant heterogeneity resulting from variations in digital policies, environmental policies, and ownership structures. Contrary to the widely accepted adage ‘do not engage in business activities with relatives’, individuals from Chinese, Indian, and Pakistani backgrounds are achieving significant progress, while individual groups experience stagnation. While prior research offers substantial insights into the relationship between kinship and entrepreneurial ventures, there exists a paucity of information regarding the mechanisms through which certain kin individuals attain success while others do not. The principal inquiries revolve around the question, ‘In what ways do kinship networks contribute to entrepreneurial success?’ Furthermore, within a multicultural and heterogeneous framework, how might kinship networks serve as essential resources that promote entrepreneurial development, or do they instead pose additional challenges to such advancement? To address these inquiries, this study conducts an integrative review of entrepreneurship through the conceptual framework of kinship (kin-entrepreneurship), a notion distinctly from emerging disciplines. The contextual backdrop of this study is firmly anchored in the rising incidence of business failures and their resultant ramifications for sustainable economic development on a global scale. By employing an integrative review methodology that encompasses both bibliometric and content analyses of extant literature, adhering to the PRISMA guidelines, this research elucidates the fundamental components relevant to kin-entrepreneurship. In tackling this issue, the present investigation explores the trends, trajectories, and potential futures concerning the nexus of kinship and entrepreneurship. A bibliometric analysis was conducted on a dataset comprising 292 scholarly articles focused on kin-entrepreneurship, published between 1980 and 2023, sourced from the Scopus and Web of Science databases. Significant findings highlight “kinship-based business influencers” and “entrepreneurial environment and consequences”, as crucial themes. Subsequent to the discovery of the themes, this paper advocates for a paradigm shift from a narrow familial perspective on business to a more expansive kinship viewpoint, which can enhance comprehension of the complex dynamics within business environments where kinship-based business influencers are multifaceted, affecting economic performance (where entrepreneurs capitalize on these affiliations for economic advantage), decision-making (which improves business sustainability through resource allocation among kin), and employee relations (as kin connections foster both formal and informal employment opportunities) for entrepreneurs. Consequently, this study posits that kinship-oriented business dynamics play a crucial role in influencing entrepreneurial decision-making by offering social capital, resources, and strategic guidance, which are essential for mitigating existing entrepreneurial attrition rates and, in turn, are fundamental for fostering economic development. Entrepreneurial activities are crucial for activating the endogenous power of the countryside, promoting integrated urban and rural development, and achieving comprehensive rural revitalization. This paper empirically examines the mechanisms through which entrepreneurial activities influence rural revitalization by incorporating the theory of dissipative structures into the research paradigm of rural revitalization. Using interdisciplinary analysis methods, it deeply analyzes the underlying logic of entrepreneurial activities affecting rural revitalization, relying on panel data from 2045 counties from 2011 to 2020. The study finds that entrepreneurial activities attract negative entropy flows, such as information and materials, into the rural revitalization system by increasing employment opportunities and promoting capital agglomeration. This fosters a stable and orderly dissipative structure within the system, thereby empowering comprehensive rural revitalization. The heterogeneity test indicates that the promotion effect of entrepreneurial activities on rural revitalization is more pronounced in the eastern region and non-e-commerce demonstration counties. Further research reveals that the facilitating effect of entrepreneurial activities on the rural revitalization system is particularly evident in four dimensions: ecological viability, a civilized rural culture, effective governance, and an affluent life. This study provides theoretical and empirical support for implementing the rural revitalization strategy in China. Full article

This paper examines the impact of digital governance on entrepreneurial activity in relatively poor areas from both theoretical and empirical perspectives. Our study is twofold. First, we utilize a economic geography model to theoretically analyze the influence of digital governance on regional entrepreneurial endeavors and develop research hypotheses. Second, using county panel data from Tibet spanning from 2001 to 2021, we empirically examine the influence of digital governance on entrepreneurial activity. The results show that digital governance can significantly increase regional entrepreneurial activity, and that the effect exhibits an upward and then a downward trend over time, with some spatial spillover effects. We argue that differences in regional network infrastructure are an important heterogeneity factor affecting digital governance’s ability to increase entrepreneurial activity. Our conclusions remain robust to various tests. Full article

The research reveals how micro- and small-sized enterprises can unleash future innovation to pursue sustainability. This empirical participatory action research is conducted from 2018 to 2022 in 18 multi-case micro- and small-sized enterprises. The findings reveal that these enterprises pursue sustainability through instrumental, moral and intrinsic value creation in combination. Despite the experienced uncertainty and resource limitations of the participating enterprises, they can pursue future innovation to create value for customers and society addressing, respectively, UN SDGs No. 3, 8, 9, 11, 12 and 17. None of the hitherto noted entrepreneurial literature branches can alone support micro- and small-sized enterprises to pursue future innovation. However, the literature branches illustrate individual useful strengths. Furthermore, they illustrate limitations for value creation. The illustrated useful strengths and the accompanying limitations call for context-dependent use in micro- and small- sized enterprises through the integration of the relevant specific extant literature branches to support their innovation aims, respectively, utilising opportunities, their own and others’ heterogeneous behaviours and reorganising resources to unleash future sustainable innovation in an action learning approach. Further collaborative participatory action research is needed to support and enable the practical implication potential for value creation in micro- and small-sized enterprises. Full article

This study examines how ambidextrous balanced innovation and ambidextrous combined innovation affect international entrepreneurial-oriented enterprise growth within the holistic paradigm of systems thinking and discusses the systemic impact of industry international competitiveness and industry financing dependence. We select the unbalanced panel data of China’s ICT industry international enterprises from 2010 to 2021 for empirical research, and we employ the fixed effect model for testing. The empirical results indicate that both ambidextrous balanced innovation and ambidextrous combined innovation promote international entrepreneurial-oriented enterprise growth, that the industry’s international competitiveness positively moderates the relationship between ambidextrous balanced innovation and international entrepreneurial-oriented enterprise growth, and that the industry’s financing dependence negatively moderates the relationship between ambidextrous balanced innovation and international entrepreneurial-oriented enterprise growth. The aforementioned conclusion is robust against a series of robustness tests. This study expands the theoretical research on international entrepreneurship and ambidextrous innovation strategy selection and may help in the selection of ambidextrous innovation strategies for international entrepreneurial-oriented enterprises.
