In the context of typhlo music therapy, personalized interventions can significantly enhance the therapeutic experience for visually impaired children. Leveraging a data-driven approach, we incorporate action-rule discovery to provide insights into the factors of music that may benefit individual children. The system utilizes a comprehensive dataset developed in collaboration with an experienced music therapist, special educator, and clinical psychologist, encompassing meta-decision attributes, decision attributes, and musical features such as tempo, rhythm, and pitch. By extracting and analyzing these features, our methodology identifies key factors that influence therapeutic outcomes. Some themes discovered through action-rule discovery include the effect of harmonic richness and loudness on expression and communication. The main findings demonstrate the system’s ability to offer personalized, impactful, and actionable insights, leading to improved therapeutic experiences for children undergoing typhlo music therapy. Our conclusions highlight the system’s potential to transform music therapy by providing therapists with precise and effective tools to support their patients’ developmental progress. This work shows the significance of integrating advanced data analysis techniques in therapeutic settings, paving the way for future enhancements in personalized music therapy interventions. Inclusive education emphasizes the right of all students, including those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), to access equitable learning opportunities in mainstream classrooms. This study presents the implementation and evaluation of a school-based intervention within the BATTIE (Bottleneck Analysis and Teacher Trainings for Inclusive Education) project in Greece, aiming to enhance inclusion through differentiated instruction (DI) and a whole school approach. The intervention was conducted across 26 schools and involved 116 educators and 130 students with SEND. A qualitative methodology was employed, utilizing structured classroom observations, field notes, and semi-structured interviews with teachers. The data were thematically analyzed using NVivo 11. Findings indicated notable improvements in student engagement, academic participation, and classroom collaboration, especially among students with SEND. Teachers reported enhanced professional confidence, better understanding of inclusive strategies, and improved collaboration with special education staff. However, limitations in interdisciplinary cooperation—particularly with school psychologists—were identified. This study concludes that sustained professional development, school-wide collaboration, and differentiated instruction are essential for fostering inclusive practices. It underscores the potential of structured, whole school interventions to improve learning environments for diverse student populations and provides insights for educational policy and practice reform. Background/Objectives: In research on the relationship between pubertal timing and adolescent health, more attention is typically given to early rather than late maturation, as well as the associated risk of engaging in health-compromising behaviors. The aim of this study was to assess changes in HRQL (health-related quality of life) depending on subjectively perceived pubertal timing, measured in five categories. Methods: A cross-sectional online survey was conducted in spring 2024 in a western region of Poland (N = 9411; mean age 15.15 ± 1.56 years). Mean KIDSCREEN-27 index scores were compared according to self-reported pubertal timing, and five relevant general linear models were estimated, adjusting analyses for respondents’ age, sex, and the remaining four HRQL scores. Results: In the study group, 49.0% of students assessed their pubertal timing as typical, 28.5% as earlier, and 22.5% as later compared to peers of the same sex. For all five KIDSCREEN-27 dimensions, adolescents who matured at a pace perceived as typical achieved the highest quality-of-life index scores. Significantly earlier or significantly later pubertal timing was associated with a notable decrease in these indices. Some significant interactions were identified between sex or age and pubertal timing as predictors of HRQL. The strongest association with pubertal timing was observed for the Psychological Well-being dimension, where differences unfavorable to older age groups were additionally linked to delayed pubertal timing. Conclusions: Greater awareness of the relationship between perceived pubertal timing and adolescents’ well-being is warranted among preventive care physicians, parents, and school psychologists and educators. Background: Weight stigma describes the negative attitudes held toward people with obesity. Weight bias stereotypes have been previously reported in physicians, physician assistants, nurses, registered dieticians, psychologists, and students enrolled in healthcare professional education programs. Physical and occupational therapists (PTs and OTs) are healthcare providers who evaluate and treat individuals across their lifespan. A PT or an OT who harbors weight bias may create an environment where the patient may fail to optimize their rehabilitation recovery. The first purpose of this scoping review was to identify the prevalence of weight bias in PT and OT clinicians and students. The second purpose was to evaluate the effectiveness of interventions at reducing weight bias in these populations. Methods: The CINAHL, PubMed, and Google Scholar databases were searched, and 15 articles met the inclusion criteria. Results: In each study, PT and/or OT clinicians and/or students demonstrated weight bias. A minimum of approximately twenty percent of surveyed participants had weight bias, with one study reporting over eighty percent of subjects expressing negative attitudes. Three of the studies reported mixed results (i.e., improvement or worsening) regarding weight bias scores after intervention. Conclusions: PT and OT clinicians and students demonstrate weight bias similar to other healthcare professionals. Future research is warranted to identify educational interventions that reduce bias within these populations. Full article

The Symptom Navi Program (SNP) is a self-management support (SMS) intervention for people with cancer. It consists of self-management supportive leaflets, educational conversations, and two standardized training sessions. A descriptive quality evaluation method was used to evaluate SNP implementation across 14 cancer services from 2021 to 2024. We evaluated training content, methods, and participants’ confidence to use SMS in their clinical routine. Nurses, social workers, and psychologists completed ad hoc closed and open-ended questions after each training. The Work Sense of Coherence (Work-SoC) scale was used to elicit participants’ self-reported perceptions of their work context at cancer services. A series of descriptive analyses were conducted on the Work-SoC scale, the training content, and the methods. In addition, training-specific questions and predefined hypotheses were correlated. Thematic analysis was employed to examine open-ended questions. The SNP training content and methods largely met participants’ needs. Participants’ confidence in applying educational conversations decreased over time. The findings suggest a robust correlation between the application of educational conversations in daily routines and the participants’ perceptions regarding the comprehensibility and manageability of their work situations. Future research focusing on the implementation of SMS in clinical practice should examine the work context. Full article

Background/Objectives: The high sensitivity of paediatric nurses directly influences the quality of nursing care provided to patients. The purpose of this study is to present the most frequent issues faced by paediatric nurses in their everyday work and their responses to difficult situations at work, define the actions applied when a difficult situation occurs, and assess the level of stress and other factors influencing the level of stress experienced by paediatric nurses. Methods: This study was conducted using an original survey form and a standardised psychological questionnaire based on the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10) for paediatric nurses. Results: The study involved 416 paediatric nurses and indicated a medium level of stress among the nurses. The median stress level, calculated as the sum of answers to questions based on the PSS-10, was 18 (16.0 ÷ 20.0), and the mean was 17.9 (min–max = 1–30). The median Sten score was 6 (5.0 ÷ 7.0), and the mean Sten score was 5.94 (min–max = 2–9). Nurses aged 21–30 years, who live in a city, have a Bachelor of Science in Nursing or a Master of Science in Nursing, and work ≥ 61 h a week and 161–250 h a month experience a higher level of stress. Factors such as choosing which child to help first, spending a great deal of time filling out medical documentation, obtaining a sick child’s consent to perform nursing procedures which the child does not understand, involving the minor in decision-making, impolite or offensive behaviour from a sick child or their parents, ineffective nursing and treatment methods, providing care against the opinion/views of a sick child or their parents, difficulties in or a lack of understanding of the situation of a sick child and their family, performing nursing procedures that can cause the child pain, and the inability to fulfil a sick child’s request increase the level of stress experienced by paediatric nurses. When a difficult situation occurs at work occurs, the nurses usually meet and talk about the situation with someone close (72.4%) or engage in other activities to avoid thinking about the situation (66.6%). They consult a psychologist/psychotherapist very rarely (9.6%) and a psychiatrist extremely rarely (4.6%). Conclusions: Polish paediatric nurses were found to experience a medium level of stress. Since paediatric nurses are exposed to stress, providing them with psychological care is important. The level of perceived stress is dependent on the nurse’s age, place of residence, and education, as well as weekly and monthly working durations. Paediatric nurses experience many difficult situations in their everyday work that influence their stress levels. Management should pay special attention to difficult workplace situations faced by paediatric nurses and implement regular actions to reduce the levels of stress experienced. Full article

Background: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic autoimmune disease characterised by systemic inflammation and the progressive damage of joints, significantly impacting patients’ quality of life. Managing this condition requires a complex approach that integrates pharmacological and non-pharmacological therapies, alongside psychosocial support and patient education. Aim: This study aims to highlight the importance of an interdisciplinary approach in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, focusing on the role of pharmacological therapies, monitoring treatment response, and the involvement of a multidisciplinary team in the effective management of the disease. Methods: The analysis was based on a review of the specialised literature concerning the role of disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs, both conventional and biological), the use of inflammatory markers (CRP and ESR), advanced imaging techniques, and the contribution of various medical specialities to the holistic management of rheumatoid arthritis. A total of 595,900 records were identified, of which 53 studies were ultimately included in the detailed analysis. Relevant studies from fields such as rheumatology, nutrition, psychology, and physical therapy were included. Results: The findings underline that DMARDs, in combination with other pharmacological therapies, remain essential for slowing disease progression. Monitoring treatment response through inflammatory markers and imaging techniques allows for the adjustment of therapeutic strategies and the prevention of complications. An interdisciplinary approach, involving the rheumatologist, general practitioner, physiotherapist, nutritionist, and psychologist, provides significant benefits, such as reducing inflammation, improving joint function, and offering psychosocial support. Conclusions: The effective management of rheumatoid arthritis requires a personalised interdisciplinary approach. Integrating various specialities, along with patient education and psychosocial support, contributes to better disease management, the prevention of disabilities, and improved quality of life. Background: The quality of palliative care (PC) services is closely linked to the effectiveness of interdisciplinary collaboration. A coordinated approach among professionals from different fields fosters holistic, person-centered care, ensuring comprehensive support for patients with complex conditions and their families. In hospital settings, In-Hospital Palliative Care Support Teams (EIHSCPs) play a key role in delivering specialized care, enhancing interdepartmental communication, training other healthcare professionals, and optimizing resources. Strong leadership by PC specialists, combined with effective team management, contributes to symptom relief, improved quality of life, and cost reduction. However, interdisciplinary collaboration presents challenges, including competing priorities, resource constraints, and communication barriers. Despite its recognized benefits, research on its implementation in PC, particularly in Portugal, remains scarce. Objective: This study explores the perspectives and practices of professionals within an EIHSCP, examining team dynamics, interprofessional collaboration, and key facilitators and barriers. Methods: Twelve semi-structured interviews were conducted with physicians, nurses, psychologists, and social workers from the EIHSCP in the Médio Tejo region. Data were analyzed using Braun and Clarke’s reflexive thematic analysis. Results: The interview findings were organized into three themes: (1) Social Representations and Interdisciplinary Practice; (2) Competencies for Interdisciplinary Practice; and (3) Challenges in Interdisciplinary Practice. Participants consistently highlighted that interdisciplinary collaboration enhances communication between services and improves care quality. While teamwork is central, patient- and family-centered care remains the priority. Key competencies include empathy, ethics, active listening, and cultural sensitivity, alongside structural and procedural elements such as team meetings, integrated communication, and clear referral criteria. Continuous education and professional development are essential. Challenges primarily stem from limited human and material resources, staff workload and stress, communication gaps between hospital and community teams, and insufficient institutional recognition. Suggested improvements focus on investing in ongoing training, strengthening communication and inter-institutional collaboration, and revising the organizational model of PC within Portugal’s National Health Service. Conclusions: Interdisciplinary collaboration in PC is fundamental for holistic, patient-centered care but is hindered by structural and organizational barriers. Full article

We conducted a thematic analysis of 25 parent responses to open-ended survey questions from the Behavioral Assessment System for Children (BASC-3) regarding their young, high-ability children’s behavioral and emotional development. Our analysis revealed four themes: (a) demonstrating advanced abilities, (b) displaying motivation to do well, (c) enjoying the company of adults and peers, and (d) experiencing difficulties regulating emotions. Further, three themes from parents of young typically developing children were also included as a comparison: (a) demonstrating academic strengths, (b) connecting with others, and (c) experiencing difficulties regulating emotions. These themes provide a first step in informing classroom teachers, counselors, and psychologists about young children’s social, emotional, and behavioral needs and matching them with appropriate educational programming and intervention options. This paper also includes implications of the findings and suggestions for further research to maximize young children’s gifts, talents, and exceptionalities. Full article

Sexual dysfunction following abdominal or pelvic surgery is a significant concern that impacts the quality of life (QoL) for both men and women. This paper explores the multifaceted challenges and re-educational strategies associated with post-surgical sexual dysfunction. It highlights the physical and psychological repercussions of surgeries such as hysterectomies, pelvic organ prolapse repairs, radical prostatectomies, and rectal cancer resections. These procedures often lead to complications like dyspareunia, erectile dysfunction, and altered body image, necessitating comprehensive re-educational approaches. The review emphasizes the importance of tailored interventions, including pelvic floor muscle training (PFMT), biofeedback, manual therapy, and advanced techniques like botulinum toxin injections and sacral neuromodulation. For men, strategies such as phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors (PDE5i), vacuum erection devices (VEDs), intracavernosal injections, and penile prostheses are explored for their efficacy in restoring erectile function. Psychological support, including cognitive–behavioral therapy and couples counseling, is underscored as essential to addressing emotional and relational aspects of recovery. A multidisciplinary approach involving physiatrists, urologists, gynecologists, physiotherapists, psychologists, and sexual health counselors is advocated for to optimize outcomes. Integrating physical therapy modalities, as well as psychological and relational therapies, into individual rehabilitation projects is crucial for improving sexual function and overall QoL post-surgery. Future research should focus on refining these established strategies and investigating the potential of innovative therapeutic modalities. Full article

Background: This paper presents a comprehensive literature review that investigates the pivotal role of school psychologists within the Italian educational context, highlighting their importance in promoting mental health and students’ well-being, emphasizing the importance of a comprehensive school psychology evidence-based service to facilitate the personal and professional development of both students and staff. Methods: To conduct this review, we utilized databases such as Scopus, ResearchGate, PsycINFO, and PubMed to access recent scientific literature related to school psychologists in Italy, focusing primarily on studies published between 2018 and 2025. We employed keywords including “school psychologist in Italy”, “mental health”, “COVID-19”, “COVID-19 and school psychologists”, and “school psychologist legislation in Italy” to guide our search. Results: By synthesizing the existing literature, this study aims to explore the integration and effectiveness of psychological services in Italian schools, particularly in light of the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. This review provides an overview of the current state of school psychology evidence-based services in Italy, with particular attention to the emotional and psychological challenges exacerbated by the pandemic. This event that has profoundly impacted community life highlighted the importance of mental health, prompting Italy to enhance the presence of psychologists within schools. Furthermore, this review critically analyzes the existing laws and psychological frameworks, drawing on data from an extensive examination of legislative documents and the previous literature regarding the implementation of school psychology services. The findings reveal that 69.2% of Italian schools adopted a school psychology service following legislative initiatives, aimed at addressing the trauma and discomfort caused by the pandemic. Conclusions: Despite this progress, the presence of this figure is still rare and while significant steps have been taken, a shift towards a more preventative and holistic model is currently essential. Background: Many schools are committed to the “Five Steps to a Health Promoting School guide” created by the Schools for Health in Europe (SHE) network to avoid chronic disease and promote healthy environments. Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate schools’ health promotion policies and practices via the SHE rapid assessment tool. Methods: From February 2019 to June 2019, a cross-sectional survey based on this tool was conducted in nine international schools that are part of a private network operating in multiple countries. The survey consisted of 37 questions aligned with the whole-school approach to health promotion and addressed orientation, healthy school policy, the physical and social environment, health skills, community links, and staff well-being using a three-point scale. A univariate analysis was subsequently performed. Results: A total of 929 people responded, 59.7% of whom were women, representing 74 different nationalities (82.5% Europeans). The average age was 25.9 years, ranging from 7 to 77 years. The participants included 57.2% students, 21.3% teachers, 15.3% families, 3.2% management teams, 1% counsellors/psychologists, 1% administrative/service staff, 0.5% catering staff, 0.3% nursing/medical staff, and 0.2% maintenance staff. The findings revealed that 80% of the respondents felt that most of these health promotion needs were being partially or fully addressed, predominantly with medium or high priority. However, 30% of the respondents indicated that the school had not yet assessed the students’ and employees’ health and well-being needs or fully promoted a healthy work-life. Conclusions: The SHE rapid assessment tool serves as an effective initial step in identifying key indicators within the school community, offering insights for future action towards becoming a health-promoting school. These results underscore the importance of addressing social and behavioural determinants of health within different international educational settings to promote positive sociorelational well-being and youth development. By fostering the well-being of children, adolescents, and the educational community, schools play a pivotal role in reducing the risk factors for chronic diseases and supporting psychosocial adaptation. Background: Self-directed learning (SDL) most appropriately is learning that is personally selected based on individual values. SDL potentially achieves psychological flow. Flow is an outcome identified and investigated by psychologist Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi. Among those whose flow he studied were individuals who engaged in self-directed careers—athletes, musicians, and researchers. Method: Based on their career self-direction, this investigation compares the reports of athletes, musicians, and researchers of Csikszentmihalyi through a qualitative narrative analysis of his relevant forty-seven-year publication record. The included reports have Csikszentmihalyi as an author, are an analysis of athletes, musicians, or researchers, and mention flow. The lack of an empirical study is the reason for exclusion. Results: The results reveal a significant difference between those who experience flow from a performance of their achieved skills and those who experience flow while learning. This examination of Csikszentmihalyi’s studies regarding athletes and musicians identifies that they are most likely to experience flow during performances of their mastered skills, unlike researchers, whose flow occurs during SDL—a distinction unmentioned by Csikszentmihalyi. Conclusions: Although athletes and musicians may self-direct their careers, only the flow of researchers corresponds with SDL. This result meaningfully extends the literature on SDL and flow, offering direction for future empirical studies and educational opportunities. Full article

Test anxiety has been the focus of research interest in the domains of education and psychology for over 70 years, as it affects not only students’ academic achievement and overall well-being, but students’ families and school staff as well. Given the implications of high-stakes school exams for students’ future educational opportunities and self-esteem, it is unsurprising that students experience test anxiety under the pressure of achieving high scores. In this context, it is imperative to comprehend the predictors and consequences of test anxiety to develop efficacious prevention and intervention programs. Therefore, the present review, aiming to extend the current understanding, provides insight and impacts of test anxiety, and highlights corresponding future implications. The implications that emerge could be considered by teachers, school and developmental psychologists, and educational professionals who aim to support students in reducing test anxiety and performing to their full potential in assessment situations. Objectives: This study explored the challenges and solutions to the effective promotion of physical activity (PA) to cancer survivors in practice in Ireland amongst a variety of stakeholders, including healthcare professionals (HCPs), policy makers, community providers of cancer care, and academics. Methods: Focus groups (n = 5) were conducted with participants (n = 40), including oncologists, oncology nurses, physiotherapists, cancer support centre managers, academics, consumers, cancer policy representatives, exercise specialists, community providers of exercise programmes, and a chartered psychologist. The data were analysed using reflexive thematic analysis. Results: Four primary themes were identified: (i) embedding PA into the cancer pathway (including the sub-themes of ‘singing from the same hymn sheet’, ‘PA as an essential element of treatment’, and ‘intervention opportunities and models of care’); (ii) education and training; (iii) access to appropriate PA interventions; and (iv) tailored programmes. Conclusions: The importance of embedding PA into the cancer pathway such that PA is viewed by clinicians and patients as a key part of their treatment was emphasised. Opportunities for PA intervention within existing practice were highlighted, such as the chemotherapy education sessions run by Daffodil nurses. Findings pointed to a need for education and training for HCPs that include how to coach and counsel cancer patients concerning PA in clinic. Finally, a major barrier to PA promotion was limited access to appropriate PA interventions. Full article
