The digital economy creates new opportunities for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Indonesia to enhance their competitiveness through the adoption of financial technology. This study examines how digital financial inclusion (DFI) mediates the effects of digital financial literacy (DFL) and government support (GS) on MSME performance. This mediating relationship remains underexplored in developing countries, offering new insights into how it drives business advancement. A quantitative approach was applied using partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) based on survey data from 260 culinary MSME owners. The results indicate that knowledge-based resources and institutional support positively influence performance through DFI. DFI drives improvement by expanding market reach, increasing operational efficiency, facilitating transactions, optimizing the value of financial activities, and broadening access to financing. These findings underline the importance of policies that promote inclusive digital ecosystems and strengthen digital capability. Future research approaches should emphasize the integration of behavioral factors, institutional support, and business performance within the evolving MSME ecosystem and can be further developed through longitudinal or cross-sectoral studies to understand the sustainable dynamics of digital transformation. Stakeholder fragmentation in transdisciplinary research often impedes innovation in South Africa’s tourism sector. The real-time supply network for MSMEs in Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal struggles with digital adoption, limiting its resilience despite rising demand in the digital economy. This study examined how a transdisciplinary approach can enhance the Tourism Supply Chain Network in these regions—an urban hub (Gauteng) and a coastal cultural destination (KwaZulu-Natal)—to unlock their potential. Employing action research, this study engaged stakeholders (tourism operators, tech developers, and communities) to co-create data-driven digital solutions, including a real-time supply network. The collected data included both qualitative insights from workshops and interviews, as well as quantitative metrics such as platform usage and tourist engagement, which were analysed using descriptive statistics. Innovative technologies improved the supply chain efficiency, cutting coordination delays by 25% in Gauteng and boosting rural tourism visibility in KwaZulu-Natal, with a 30% increase in bookings. Gauteng saw urban connectivity gains, while KwaZulu-Natal achieved inclusive growth. This study provides a scalable, data-driven framework for digitalisation in tourism supply networks, offering practical strategies for stakeholders. It advances innovative technologies in emerging markets, emphasising the transformative potential of transdisciplinary collaboration to build resilient, collaborative tourism ecosystems in South Africa. P2MKP Alang-alang Tumbuh Subur is an MSME that produces various types of food made from catfish. Inventory recording in these MSMEs is still carried out using simple Excel, which causes various problems, such as differences in real stock and recording stock, longer recording time, and vulnerable data loss. Therefore, it is necessary to improve the recording system. This research aims to design a management information system that is informative and easily accessible, so that inventory and financial records in these MSMEs can be performed quickly and flexibly. The method used is the agile software development method, which prioritizes communication with related parties with several sprints. This method ensures that the system can be developed quickly, precisely, and in accordance with the wishes of the user. The result of this research is a system that contains product stock management pages, employee data, equipment, and business financial transactions. With CRUD (create, read, update, delete) and report printing features, users can easily change and print reports. In addition, there is an access code feature so that data security is guaranteed. With this system, it is expected that MSMEs can increase the efficiency and accuracy of inventory and financial records and support the smooth operation of the company as a whole. Full article

This study investigates the factors driving micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) empowerment, tourism development, and sustainable tourism villages, focusing on Ponggok Tourism Village as a case study. The purpose is to address gaps in understanding how leadership, innovation, governance, collaboration, capacity building, and technology contribute to empowering MSMEs and achieving sustainability in rural tourism contexts. Using a mixed-methods approach, the study combines quantitative analysis of survey data and thematic analysis of interviews with MSME actors, facilitators, and local government officials. Key findings reveal that leadership and innovation are critical drivers of MSME empowerment, with technology in service quality significantly impacting tourism development. However, technology in governance and transparency shows limited direct influence on tourism, emphasizing the need for better alignment with tourism strategies. Additionally, MSME empowerment strongly influences both tourism development and the sustainability of tourism villages, creating a mutually reinforcing relationship. This study provides a novel framework for integrating leadership, technological advancements, and governance improvements with local tourism strategies. By highlighting Ponggok’s village potential as a model, the findings offer practical insights for policymakers and practitioners seeking to enhance rural tourism through MSME empowerment. Future research could explore scaling this framework to other contexts and refining technological tools for governance in tourism. Full article

Micro and small enterprises (MSMEs) play a positive and significant role in developing economies by creating job opportunities and mitigating poverty; this necessitates their attention and focus, mainly during challenging times. Accordingly, this study explored the key factors contributing to enhancing entrepreneurial competency (EC) and the intention to maintain business continuity among MSMEs in Yemen during adverse times. A sample of 280 responses was collected from MSMEs operating diverse types of businesses in the capital of Yemen, Sanaa. The collected data were analysed using partial least squares–structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM), which is considered suitable for this purpose. The data collection process included an online questionnaire and a physical visit to the business locations of the business owners. The findings of the study reported that entrepreneurs’ network ties (ENT), as well as recovering capability (RC), positively and significantly influence the EC of MSMEs in the context of the study. Additionally, EC positively and significantly influences business continuity intention (BCI). Finally, EC partially mediates the relationship between ENT, RC, and BCI. The study concludes by providing recommendations and implications for policymakers. Full article

The industry usually faces a problem during the loading/unloading of finished products and raw materials from one place to another when both places are at different elevations. As trucks are of variable height and industry loading bays are at different elevations, it is not possible to drive the pallets effectively into freight, which results in decreasing loading/unloading efficiency of small concerns. In this paper, an adjustable height ramp system for increasing production efficiency and improving the industrial working environment was developed using a linear actuator and automation system for the safe loading and unloading of pallets. This adjustable ramp will help to increase the productivity of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), and it will provide a safe working environment. Using an adjustable ramp will help create a bridge between industry loading bays and freight, and it will also resolve the issue of different heights of both by making a path between them. The Internet of things (IoT)-enabled lifting and downward movement of the ramp is attempted for oil/air filter MSMEs. Full article

While innovation is essential for sustainable development, micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), which account for more than 90% of firms in Latin America, face the challenge of benefiting systematically from innovation due to capability and negotiation asymmetries when compared with large organizations. In this context, open innovation holds promise to enable shared-value creation in terms of developing MSME capabilities, operations, and the organization of activities, especially when mediated and supported by public sector actors. It may also hold promise for the development of MSMEs when there is a lack of well-developed ecosystems with multiple central actors, as is the case in many less-developed Latin American countries, such as Nicaragua. Open innovation ecosystems support platforms that form the delivery vehicles for the offerings of firms, providing a framework of processes, rules, and policies for the purpose of co-creating value. These platforms also offer a development gateway for the participating MSMEs, impacting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) created by The United Nations. Despite the potential for open innovation and its application in entrepreneurship ecosystems, few cases document the essential elements for designing these supporting platforms. In this case study, we aim to provide a framework for mediated, shared-value open innovation platforms by applying design science and case study approaches. Our work contributes to the field of knowledge-based ecosystems and open innovation platforms and considers best practices that can be applied in similar contexts. Full article

This study aims to determine the effect of human capital, structural capital, and consumer capital on financial performance and moderate the speed of innovation. The type of research used in the study is quantitative—data collection techniques in distributing questionnaires measured using a Likert scale. The sampling technique used was random sampling and was determined by the slovin formula. The population in this study was MSMEs in Buleleng Regency, and the samples used in this study amounted to 392 MSMEs. Data or statistical analysis techniques in the study were considered using the Structural Equation Model with WarpPLS 5.0 software modelling. The results show that the technology and commitment variables have no significant effect on the development of religious ecotourism villages. In contrast, cultural changes significantly impact the development of religious ecotourism villages. This study uses the speed of innovation as a moderating variable, the speed of innovation is one of the essential things for MSMEs to improve financial performance. The speed of innovation supports intellectual capital, which is currently focused on knowledge-driven business to create a competitive advantage. Full article

Micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) represent more than 99% of enterprises in Europe. Therefore, knowledge about this sector, also in the spatial context is important to understand the patterns of economic and social development. The main goal of this article is an analysis of spatial conditions and the situation of MSMEs on a local level using combined sources of information. This includes data collected in the Social Insurance Institution and Tax registers in Poland, which provides information on the employment, wages, revenues and taxes paid by the MSMEs on a local level as well as contextual statistical information. The data is used for a diagnosis of spatial circumstances and discussion of conditions influencing the status of the MSMEs sector in a selected region (voivodeship) in Poland. Taxonomy methods including factor analysis and clustering methods based on k-means and SOM Kohonen were used for selecting significant information and grouping of the local units according to the situation of the MSMEs. There are eight factors revealed in principal component analysis and five clusters of local units distinguished using these factors. These include two clusters with a high share of rural local units and two clusters with a high share of rural-urban and urban local units. Additionally, there was an outstanding cluster with only two dominant urban local units. Factors show differences between clusters in the situation of MSMEs sector and infrastructure. Different spatial conditions in different regions influence the situation of MSMEs. Full article

Indonesia aims to strengthen its local regions and villages. This has led to the encouragement of smart village development through several forms of assistance, including Information Technology (IT) services from the government. Koto Gadang, one of the many Minangkabau customary villages in West Sumatra, has been used as a model for the development of an IT service that can support tourism known as a Web- and mobile-based geographic information system (GIS) for buildings (GB) in order to map and visualize buildings and their inhabitants. This paper reports the development of the GB. This study takes the form of a literature review, a survey, data collection, and software development. The results of the literature review and survey were used as the basis for software development. Aerial photographs of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), mosques, offices, schools, and health service centers, as well as residential buildings, were taken using a drone, while attribute data were collected directly by visiting the buildings. The users of the GB were divided into two groups: visitors and village officers. Moreover, there confidentiality was maintained for all the data provided, so the visitors were only allowed to search for buildings (MSMEs, offices, mosques, schools, and health centers) based on certain criteria, view locations, found information, and survey routes, while village officers were allowed to collect data on residents, buildings, and houses, and also search people’s homes. Furthermore, in situations where a visitor needs to find a resident’s house, the village officers are required to provide this assistance. These provisions were applied in the GB and implemented using the PostgreSQL/PostGIS database, PHP, CSS Bootstrap, jQuery, and Basic4Android, created according to the needs of the Koto Gadang smart customary village. The GB allows the village officers to better understand and monitor all the buildings, houses, and residents in the village and could also encourage many travelers to visit and see historic buildings and shop for embroidery and silver crafts. To achieve the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the support for the internationalization of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSME) for inclusive and sustainable growth needs improvement. Decided to accomplish these global goals, many regional governments have established regional public agencies aiming at increasing MSME competitiveness. In the area of internationalization, regional governments have created Regional Export Promotion Agencies (REPA), which are a type of Trade Promotion Organization (TPO) that has been implemented, for instance, in all Spanish regions. However, we found a gap in the literature since there is not enough evidence on the utility of the services provided by TPOs. Thus, the aim of this paper is to explore how a REPA interacts with firms when they internationalize and cooperates with the corresponding Regional Development Agency (RDA) during this process. The preliminary findings suggest that a better coordination between both Regional Agencies is required. In addition, further financial measures to support firms in the first stages of the internationalization processes as well as an improvement of communication activities to increase awareness of the services offered are demanded by the firms.
