Fin-stabilized guided rockets exhibit ballistic characteristics such as low initial velocity, high flight altitude, and long flight duration, which render their impact point accuracy and flight stability highly susceptible to the influence of wind. In this paper, the four-dimensional nonlinear angular motion equations describing the changes in attack angle and the law of axis swing of a dual-spin rocket are established, and the phase trajectory and equilibrium point stability characteristics of the nonlinear angular motion system under windy conditions are analyzed. Aiming at the problem that the equilibrium point of the angular motion system cannot be solved analytically with the change in wind speed, a phase trajectory projection sequence method based on the Poincaré cross-section and stroboscopic mapping is proposed to analyze the effect of wind on the angular motion bifurcation characteristics of a dual-spin rocket. The possible instability of angular motion caused by nonlinear aerodynamics under strong wind conditions is explored. This study is of reference significance for the launch control and aerodynamic design of guided rockets in complex environments. Full article

China’s southwestern karst landscapes support remarkable cavefish diversity, especially within Sinocyclocheilus, the world’s largest cavefish genus. Using integrative taxonomic methods, we describe Sinocyclocheilus wanlanensis sp. nov., found in a subterranean river in Guizhou Province. This species lacks horn-like cranial structures; its eyes are either reduced to a dark spot or absent. It possesses a pronounced nuchal hump and a forward-protruding, duckbill-shaped head. Morphometric analysis of 28 individuals from six species shows clear separation from related taxa. Nano-CT imaging reveals distinct vertebral and cranial features. Phylogenetic analyses of mitochondrial cytb and ND4 genes place S. wanlanensis within S. angularis group as sister to S. bicornutus, with p-distances of 1.7% (cytb) and 0.7% (ND4), consistent with sister-species patterns within the genus. Sinocyclocheilus wanlanensis is differentiated from S. bicornutus by its eyeless or degenerate-eye condition and lack of bifurcated horns. It differs from S. zhenfengensis, its morphologically closest species, in having degenerate or absent eyes, shorter maxillary barbels, and pelvic fins that reach the anus. The combination of morphological and molecular evidence supports its recognition as a distinct species. Accurate documentation of such endemic and narrowly distributed taxa is important for conservation and for understanding speciation in cave habitats. Full article

The new eco-friendly flammable refrigerant in air conditioners has resulted in an annual increase in fire incidents associated with these units. Fire investigators face significant challenges in identifying the causes of these fires. In this study, copper tube samples were extracted from various locations of air conditioner condenser debris post fire. The morphology characteristics of the ruptured copper tubes formed by a high-temperature flame in fire and that formed by corrosion were analyzed, respectively. The findings indicate that the ruptures in the copper tubes of air conditioners may be classified into two types based on their origins: ruptures resulting from fire and ruptures resulting from corrosion. The ruptures in the copper tubes resulting from fire are associated with the presence of aluminum alloy fins. At elevated temperatures, the copper and aluminum atoms persist in diffusing and fracturing. A significant quantity of silver-white aluminum is present surrounding the ruptures, and distinct elemental layers may be seen in the cross-section. The corrosion-induced ruptures in the copper tubes are associated with ant nest corrosion. Despite the influence of high-temperature flame melting on surface corrosion pits, they will not entirely obscure the pits and the cross-section continues to exhibit the bifurcated structure characteristic of ant nest corrosion. This investigation demonstrates that corrosion of ant nests is the root cause of copper tube breakage obscured by flames. An investigation method for the refrigerant leakage air conditioning fire is proposed. The above findings can provide proof and method for air conditioning fire investigation. Full article

A new species of hornshark is described from northwestern Australia based on six whole specimens and a single egg case. Heterodontus marshallae n. sp. was previously considered to be conspecific with H. zebra from the Western Pacific. The new species differs from H. zebra in the sequence of its NADH2 gene, several morphological characters, egg case morphology and key coloration features. Despite the coloration being similar between H. marshallae n. sp. and H. zebra, i.e., pale background with 22 dark brown bands and saddles, they differ consistently in two key aspects. Firstly, the snout of H. marshallae n. sp. has a dark semicircular bar, usually bifurcated for most of its length vs. a pointed, triangular shaped dark marking in H. zebra. Secondly, H. zebra has a dark bar originating below the posterior gill slits and extending onto anterior pectoral fin, which is absent in H. marshallae n. sp. The Heterodontus marshallae n. sp. is endemic to northwestern Australia and occurs in deeper waters (125–229 m) than H. zebra (0–143 m). Full article

Establishing the aeroelastic characteristic of all-movable fins with freeplay nonlinearities is one of the most common problems in the design of supersonic flight vehicles. In this context, this study provided novel points of view on the nonlinear aeroelastic characteristics of an all-movable fin with freeplay nonlinearities in its root. The unsteady aerodynamic model that was employed uses the second-order piston theory considering thickness effects. For a system with multiple freeplay nonlinearities, a discrete scanning method based on the describing function method was established to solve the limit-cycle oscillations (LCOs) and avoid the loss of solutions. Combining this with the time-domain integration method, the influences of the support stiffness at the root of the fin and the freeplay size ratio of the bending and torsional degrees of freedom on the dynamical response of the system were analyzed. The results demonstrate that systems with a single freeplay nonlinearity exhibit two completely different types of LCO, while systems with multiple freeplay nonlinearities exhibit complex dynamical behaviors such as LCO and quasi-periodic and chaotic motions. The path of a quasi-periodic torus breaking into chaos was observed. Furthermore, a harmonic initial condition for the time-domain integration is proposed; this can be used for a quick check of the frequency-domain calculation results. Full article

Latent heat thermal energy storage (LHTES) technology can alleviate the mismatch between the supply and demand of solar energy and industrial waste heat, but the low thermal conductivity of phase change materials (PCMs) is an issue that needs to be solved. In this work, the effects of the bifurcated fins on melting and solidification are studied, and local and global entropy generation are discussed. The radial lag time and the circumferential lag time were defined to evaluate thermal penetration and thermal uniformity. Subsequently, a novel arc-shaped fin configuration was proposed to further enhance the heat transfer. The results showed that attaching the bifurcated fins could effectively reduce the global entropy generation. Increasing the trunk fin length was beneficial to enhance the thermal uniformity and promote the melting process, while increasing the branch fin was more effective in the solidification process. Overall, thermal uniformity determined the phase change process. More importantly, the concentric arc-shaped fins significantly reduced the heat transfer hysteresis region, showed better thermal performance than straights fins, and the energy storage and release time were reduced by 52.7% and 51.6%, respectively.
