Attitudes Toward Seeking Professional Psychological Help Among Health-Related and Non-Health-Related Students: A Cross-Sectional Study

Background: Mental health disorders are an increasing concern in Saudi Arabia, including in the Eastern Province, where one study found that of the 42.5% of medical students who reported a clear need for mental health services, only 16.2% had actually used them. Stigma and other psychosocial factors are thought to shape help-seeking behavior, yet comparative studies remain scarce. This study compares attitudes toward seeking professional psychological help, and perceived stigma, between students in health-related and non-health-related programmes at King Faisal University. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 589 students at King Faisal University, Saudi Arabia, were recruited through convenience sampling. Data were collected with an online, self-administered questionnaire covering sociodemographic characteristics and three validated Arabic instruments: the Attitudes Toward Seeking Professional Psychological Help–Short Form (ATSPPH-SF), the Stigma Scale for Receiving Psychological Help (SSRPH), and the Hopkins Symptom Checklist-25 (HSCL-25). Results: Of the 589 respondents, 580 (98.5%) were included in the analysis—279 (48.1%) health-related and 301 (51.9%) non-health-related students. Most were aged 18–21 (76.9%), Saudi nationals (96.9%), single (91.9%), and of middle income (79.2%). Attitudes toward seeking professional psychological help did not differ significantly between health-related and non-health-related students (Welch’s t(566) = −1.48, p = 0.138, Cohen’s d = −0.12, a negligible effect). Perceived stigma (SSRPH) was significantly higher among health-related students (10.85 vs. 10.16; t(578) = 2.56, p = 0.011). Perceived social stigma was inversely and significantly associated with attitudes toward seeking professional psychological help (r = −0.262, p < 0.001). Together, stigma and psychological distress (HSCL-25) explained a modest 7.9% of the variance in help-seeking attitudes (R2 = 0.079). Conclusions: Health-related and non-health-related students at this single university did not differ significantly in their attitudes toward seeking professional psychological help. Perceived stigma showed the stronger association with less favorable attitudes, whereas psychological distress was associated with a smaller, positive association. These findings, from a single-center convenience sample, point to a need for stigma-reduction efforts and confidential mental health services at King Faisal University. Full article

This article re-examines corporate tax loss carryforward and company regulation under United Arab Emirates law as applied to virtual assets. It uses Egypt as one functional benchmark among several, alongside the United States, the United Kingdom, Singapore, the European Union, and OECD reporting standards. The study asks whether the UAE’s general loss architecture—especially Articles 37–40 of Federal Decree-Law No. 47 of 2022—can address transaction-level problems involving classification, realization, valuation, beneficial ownership, custody, related parties, and evidentiary traceability without departing unnecessarily from tax neutrality. Using a doctrinal, comparative, and policy-oriented method, the article finds that the comparators generally apply ordinary tax categories while supplementing them with crypto-specific guidance, market supervision, and information reporting; they do not establish a general virtual-asset loss ring-fence. The UAE framework already contains substantial safeguards, including a 75% utilization cap, ownership and continuity conditions, transfer-pricing and anti-abuse rules, and the exclusion of exempt persons and Qualifying Free Zone Persons from Article 38 loss transfers. The identified concern is therefore a prospective institutional vulnerability rather than a demonstrated pattern of UAE abuse. The article’s original contribution lies in its UAE-focused synthesis and implementation architecture, not in originating the case for restricting crypto-losses. It proposes a neutrality-first, risk-triggered model: genuine losses remain subject to ordinary law, while enhanced proof and scrutiny apply where identifiable markers arise, including self-custody without reliable records, non-independent valuation, illiquid tokens, related-party crystallization, unlicensed platforms, abrupt ownership changes, acquisition of loss companies, or transactions lacking commercial purpose. Asset-class ring-fencing or special continuity rules should be considered only if future UAE evidence demonstrates that these technologically neutral safeguards are inadequate. This calibrated approach protects the tax base while preserving legal certainty, proportionality, and the UAE’s attractiveness as a digital-finance hub. Full article

Background: Patients on Peritoneal Dialysis (PD) experience substantial dialysis-related symptoms and medication non-adherence that negatively impact clinical outcomes, yet these remain understudied in Oman and other Middle East countries. Objectives: To determine the prevalence of dialysis-related symptoms and assess medication adherence among Omani adult patients on PD. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional correlational study was conducted among 185 Omani adults receiving PD, recruited using stratified random sampling from government hospitals across Oman. Data were collected using a self-administered questionnaire comprising the researcher-developed Peritoneal Dialysis Symptoms and Life Impact Scale (PD-SLIS; Cronbach’s α = 0.97) and the Arabic version of the Adherence to Refills and Medications Scale (ARMS; Cronbach’s α = 0.71). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, chi-square tests, and multiple logistic regression. Results: The participants’ mean age was 51.54 ± 14.92 years, and 50.3% were female. The mean total symptom burden score was 82.56 ± 54.60. The most prevalent symptoms were limitations in general activities (85.9%), mood changes (85.9%), lack of energy (82.7%), and weakness (81%). All the 34 assessed symptoms were reported by ≥47% of the participants. Most participants (66.5%) reported low medication adherence (mean ARMS score = 19.73 ± 5.42). Regression analysis identified age (OR = 1.04, p = 0.02), high school education (OR = 4.68, p < 0.01), and daily number of medications (OR = 0.89, p = 0.04) as significant independent predictors of medication adherence. Conclusions: Omani patients on PD experience a pervasive symptom burden alongside predominantly low medication adherence. Routine symptom screening using the PD-SLIS, polypharmacy reduction strategies, and adherence interventions are recommended as standard components of PD clinical practice in Oman and other settings with similar contexts. Artificial intelligence is rapidly reshaping sustainability reporting, influencing how environmental, social, and governance (ESG) information is collected, analysed, and disclosed. While AI-assisted reporting improves efficiency and analytical capability, it also raises important concerns regarding transparency, accountability, verification, and AI-enabled greenwashing, creating new challenges for the credibility of sustainability disclosures. This study adopts a doctrinal legal research design supported by qualitative analysis, comparative regulatory assessment, and a structured review of legal, regulatory, and academic sources. It examines how emerging approaches to AI governance and sustainability reporting address these challenges and identifies the governance principles required to support trustworthy AI-assisted ESG reporting. Existing regulatory initiatives strengthen important aspects of sustainability reporting, yet AI governance, ESG disclosure, and greenwashing continue to be addressed through separate regulatory instruments. To bridge this gap, the study develops an integrated governance framework that combines transparency, meaningful human oversight, AI auditing, sustainability verification, and clearly allocated accountability within a coherent governance structure. The proposed framework contributes to the literature by offering a structured governance model specifically designed for AI-assisted sustainability reporting. The framework also provides practical guidance for regulators, standard setters, organisations, and assurance providers seeking to strengthen reporting integrity and stakeholder confidence in AI-assisted ESG reporting. The development of sustainable, biocompatible scaffolds with enhanced structural stability remains a primary challenge in bone tissue engineering. In this study, structurally reinforced nanocomposite scaffolds were successfully fabricated by integrating green-synthesized carbon quantum dots (CQDs) into a gelatin (G) matrix, offering an innovative platform that mimics the organic–inorganic interfaces of natural bone tissue. The CQDs were derived from oatmeal via a sustainable, green hydrothermal route, serving simultaneously as zero-dimensional reinforcing fillers and bioactive agents within the biopolymer network. To ensure an additive-free fabrication process that avoids toxic chemical cross-linkers, dehydrothermal (DHT) treatment was employed, successfully modulating the interfacial and chemical cross-linking interactions between the gelatin chains and the oxygen-rich surface groups of the CQDs. Structural characterization confirmed the uniform dispersion of CQDs (average diameter 7–8 nm) within the porous gelatin framework. The incorporation of CQDs significantly improved the physicochemical properties of the scaffolds; the G/CQD 5% formulation emerged as the optimal composition, exhibiting a 118% increase in compression modulus compared to pristine gelatin. The composite demonstrated tuned swelling kinetics and a significantly reduced degradation rate, restricting mass loss after 14 days of incubation to approximately 24% compared to 40% for pristine gelatin, which is essential for maintaining a structural template during the initial stages of tissue formation. Bioactivity assays in simulated body fluid (SBF) confirmed the rapid, biomimetic induction of a crystalline hydroxyapatite layer with a natural Ca/P ratio of 1.61 within 14 days. Furthermore, preliminary in vitro assessments using Human Skin Fibroblasts (HSFs) confirmed excellent general cytocompatibility, with cell viability exceeding 90%. This study highlights the unique potential of utilizing biomass-derived carbon nanostructures and clean manufacturing processing to engineer multifunctional scaffolds with enhanced structural stability and intrinsic bioactivity for potential bone defect repairs. Background: Measurement reliability of the sagittal thoracic spine, e.g., thoracic kyphosis and balance, on radiographs has an unknown evidence base. This literature review aims to systematically identify and evaluate the reliability of biomechanical assessments of the sagittal thoracic spine on radiographs used in clinical practice. Methods: The study design was registered with PROSPERO (CRD42023431171). Chiropractic Biophysics Nonprofit, Inc (Eagle, ID, USA) funded this investigation. Inclusion criteria involved studies in English using human subjects, radiography, and reliability analysis of biomechanical analysis of the thoracic spine. Exclusion criteria involved animal and cadaveric studies, phantom mannequins, geometric studies, and non-radiographic studies. This review was conducted using the Peer Review of Electronic Search Strategies (PRESS) checklist to organize the search strategy. A combined approach using Medical Search Headings (MeSH) search terms and a systematic literature review (SLR) search strategy was used. This review followed the recommendations of Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA). Databases searched included PubMed, CINAHL, Alt HealthWatch, Web of Science, and a grey literature search. Initial search results produced 990 results. A total of 658 records were screened by two independent reviews and 197 full text articles were assessed for eligibility. Results: Sixty-six studies were included in the final analysis and assessed for methodological quality and bias using the 11-item Quality Appraisal of Diagnostic Reliability (QAREL) tool. A total of 15 studies were of low methodological quality (high risk of bias), 28 were of moderate quality (moderate risk of bias), and 23 were of high quality (low risk of bias). Conclusions: This SLR found most articles investigating the reliability of biomechanical assessment of the sagittal thoracic spine on radiographs to be of moderate-to-high quality and show good-to-excellent reliability. Double-skin façades (DSFs) can moderate heat transfer and airflow between the outdoor environment and the building interior; however, their performance in hot-arid climates is highly dependent on cavity geometry, ventilation arrangement, and the interaction between the airflow and any active cooling surfaces. The objective of this study is to establish, under a single idealised extreme hot-arid design point, how sealed, ventilated and actively cooled double-skin façade cavities differ in their predicted temperature, velocity and turbulent kinetic energy fields, and which arrangements merit controlled follow-up study. The four configurations are treated as an idealised comparative case study rather than as validated building-performance predictions. This exploratory study uses computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to compare the aerothermal behaviour of four DSF cavity configurations under prescribed external air and outer-wall temperatures of 50 °C, an inner-wall temperature of 24 °C, and an external inlet velocity of 3.06 m/s. The configurations comprise a sealed 0.4 m cavity (M1), a wind-driven ventilated 0.4 m cavity (M2), the same ventilated cavity with six 25 mm cooling pipes at 10 °C (M3), and a concept-stage lateral-flow arrangement combining a 0.10 m cavity, a 0.025 m slit and four 80 mm cooling pipes at 10 °C (M4). The simulations employ the standard k-ε turbulence model with fixed thermal boundary conditions. Along the reported sampling lines, M1 exhibited a nearly uniform air temperature of approximately 45.7 °C, whereas M2 remained close to the imposed 50 °C external-air temperature. M3 produced lower temperatures in the immediate vicinity of the cooling pipes, but most of the sampled profile remained near ambient conditions. M4 exhibited a broader spanwise temperature range of approximately 26.9–50 °C, with local pipe-adjacent air temperatures approaching 24 °C and cooler regions developing along parts of the lateral flow path. The findings provide preliminary concept-screening evidence and support further controlled parametric analysis, higher-fidelity modelling, and experimental validation. Full article

Background/Objectives: Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common sustained cardiac arrhythmia and is associated with ischemic stroke, systemic thromboembolism, heart failure, and mortality. Although oral anticoagulation (OAC) remains the cornerstone of stroke prevention, long-term therapy may be limited by bleeding risk, contraindications, intolerance, nonadherence, or thromboembolic events despite treatment. Left atrial appendage closure (LAAC) has therefore emerged as a non-pharmacological alternative for selected patients with nonvalvular AF. This review aimed to synthesize current evidence on LAAC, focusing on comparative efficacy versus OAC, device evolution, imaging-guided strategies, antithrombotic management, procedural optimization, unresolved challenges, and emerging technologies. Methods: This state-of-the-art narrative review was informed by targeted, non-systematic searches of PubMed and Scopus for publications from January 2009 to June 2026. Evidence was selected purposively to represent clinically relevant guidelines, randomized trials, registries, comparative observational studies, systematic reviews, meta-analyses, imaging studies, device-comparison studies, and reports of emerging technologies. The selected evidence was synthesized narratively; no exhaustive screening process, PRISMA flow diagram, formal risk-of-bias assessment, or quantitative synthesis was performed. Results: Randomized evidence was context dependent. OPTION supported LAAC as an alternative to oral anticoagulation in selected anticoagulation-eligible patients undergoing atrial fibrillation ablation. CHAMPION-AF established noninferiority of Watchman FLX to non–vitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulants for its composite efficacy endpoint in a predominantly moderate-risk, anticoagulation-eligible population and demonstrated less non-procedural bleeding, although ischemic stroke occurred numerically more often after LAAC. In contrast, CLOSURE-AF did not establish noninferiority of LAAC to physician-directed medical therapy in an older population at high risks of both stroke and bleeding. These findings indicate that the comparative value of LAAC depends strongly on patient selection, comparator therapy, endpoint composition, procedural risk, and trial design. Observational, registry, and emerging evidence was considered supportive or hypothesis-generating rather than equivalent to randomized evidence. OPTION enrolled only patients undergoing or recently undergoing AF ablation who were suitable for anticoagulation. CHAMPION-AF included 3000 anticoagulation-eligible patients but had relatively low baseline bleeding risk, while CLOSURE-AF studied 912 substantially older, higher-risk patients and did not meet its noninferiority criterion. Conclusions: LAAC has evolved into a precision-guided intervention integrating patient risk, left atrial appendage anatomy, device choice, imaging, antithrombotic therapy, and structured surveillance. Further studies are needed to optimize patient selection, standardize post-procedural therapy, and clarify its long-term role compared with contemporary direct oral anticoagulant therapy. Aim: This study examined the associations among perceived work environment, professional identity, and dispositional hope among nurse interns and assessed whether perceived work environment and professional identity remained independently associated with dispositional hope after adjustment for demographic and internship-related characteristics. Methods: An analytical cross-sectional correlational study was conducted among 1450 nurse interns at Benha University Hospitals, Egypt, using a total population sampling approach. Data were collected using the Perceived Work Environment Questionnaire, Professional Identity Scale for Nursing Students, and Adult Hope Scale. Descriptive statistics, Pearson’s correlation, and multiple linear regression were performed. Results: The mean scores were 138.42 ± 18.92 for perceived work environment, 57.84 ± 8.96 for professional identity, and 47.20 ± 5.68 for dispositional hope. Perceived work environment showed significant positive correlations with professional identity (r = 0.58, p < 0.001) and dispositional hope (r = 0.52, p < 0.001), while professional identity was also positively correlated with dispositional hope (r = 0.49, p < 0.001). In the multiple linear regression analysis, perceived work environment (β = 0.359, p < 0.001) and professional identity (β = 0.282, p < 0.001) were both positively associated with dispositional hope after adjustment for the included demographic and internship-related covariates. The overall regression model was statistically significant—F (10, 1439) = 70.054, p < 0.001—and explained 32.7% of the variance in dispositional hope (R2 = 0.327; adjusted R2 = 0.323). Conclusions: Perceived work environment and professional identity were independently associated with dispositional hope among nurse interns. These findings underscore the relevance of structured supervision, constructive feedback, mentoring, and professional identity development within nursing education and internship programs. Background/Objectives: The present study aimed to assess the understandability and actionability of Arabic text generated by a large language model for commonly searched Arabic queries on dry mouth. Methods: Using Google Trends, the top 10 searches worldwide related to ‘oral dryness’ were entered in OpenAI’s Generative Pretrained Transformer 5.1. Generated texts were achieved independently. Assessments were performed using the Patient Education Materials Assessment Tool (PEMAT) to evaluate the content, word choice, and style. Results: Causes, symptoms, and treatment of dry mouth were the most common dry-mouth-related queries. The highly temporal distribution of search interests among Arabic-speaking countries peaked between 2020 and 2021, then remained high throughout 2023, before declining in November 2025. The mean PEMAT understandability and actionability scores were 89% and 80%, respectively. It was notable that all generated responses lacked visual aids, which could have made the content difficult to understand and insufficient for acting on the information. Moreover, the formal Arabic form of ‘causes of dry mouth’ with a glottal stop yielded lower actionability scores (60%) than the informal Arabic form (80%). Conclusions: Clinicians could actively supplement clinic-based discussions with advice on using large language models to help patients recognise dry mouth symptoms and improve self-care. Also, they could improve their effective adoption by clearly explaining expectations, limitations, and language/cultural differences when adopting these models. Full article

Jania rubens (J. rubens), a Mediterranean red seaweed, is rich in bioactive compounds with potential medicinal applications. This study investigates the therapeutic potential of Lebanese J. rubens through in vitro evaluation of its anti-diabetic, anti-coagulant, anti-inflammatory and anti-hemolytic activities. Various extracts were prepared and characterized using GC-MS and HPLC. Biological activities were assessed through α-amylase inhibition assays, effects on prothrombin time and partial thromboplastin time, anti-inflammatory activity and anti-hemolytic activity. Significant α-amylase inhibition was observed with dichloromethane/methanol and lipid extracts, comparable to acarbose. All types of extracts prolonged PT and PTT, with the lipid extract showing the strongest effect at higher concentrations. Additionally, dichloromethane/methanol extracts exhibited potent anti-hemolytic activity. Moreover, all extracts showed strong anti-inflammatory activity, achieving levels of inhibition of heat-induced BSA denaturation comparable to diclofenac. Characterization revealed 11 amino acids in the protein extracts, and significant fatty acids in the lipid profile. The crude extracts contained diverse compounds, including flavonoids, aldehydes, diterpenoids, terpenoids, fatty acids, and sterol esters, which may contribute to the observed biological activities. These results highlight J. rubens as a potential reservoir of bioactive compounds with promising in vitro activities related to diabetes, thrombotic disorders, inflammation, and oxidative stress. Further research is needed to isolate the active compounds, validate their efficacy in vivo, assess safety, and elucidate the underlying mechanisms. Full article

Arabic-speaking populations face disproportionate cybersecurity risks due to the predominantly English-centric design of existing awareness materials, which fail to accommodate Arabic dialectal diversity, script complexity, and culturally embedded communication patterns. These deficiencies impair users’ ability to interpret phishing messages, authentication requests, and security alerts, increasing susceptibility to social engineering, identity theft, and data breaches. This paper presents SECURE-A2RC, a rubric-constrained, Arabic-aware large language model framework designed to deliver scalable, interpretable, and culturally relevant cybersecurity education. The framework comprises two coupled components. The first, the Arabic-Aware Secure Communication Encoder (A-SCE), employs an instruction-tuned LLM to produce multidimensional encodings that capture three learner competencies: security intent comprehension; linguistic deception cue recognition encompassing urgency, authority impersonation, and incentive framing; and action-critical translation fidelity across Arabic dialectal registers and Arabic–English bilingual contexts. The second, the Rubric-Constrained Adaptive Feedback Generator (RCAFG), translates A-SCE encodings into personalized, expert-aligned instructional feedback and proficiency-calibrated adaptive tasks, ensuring pedagogical consistency, security correctness, and dialect awareness throughout the learning cycle. The framework is evaluated on three domain-relevant corpora: the English–Arabic Parallel Phishing Email Corpus, the Open MalSec dataset, and the Arabic Spam and Ham Tweets dataset. SECURE-A2RC achieves a 31% improvement in phishing identification accuracy and a 26% reduction in action-critical translation errors compared to conventional awareness materials. A comparative evaluation against SERENA, a Multi-Agent LLM, and the Arabic Multitask Learning Model confirms consistent superiority across detection accuracy, F1-score, dialectal robustness, and educational effectiveness metrics, affirming rubric-constrained LLM integration as a viable approach to equitable multilingual cybersecurity education. Background and Objectives: The optimal timing of orthodontic intervention in children remains debated, particularly during the mixed dentition phase. Despite potential benefits, variability in clinical decision-making persists. This study explored orthodontists’ perceptions, clinical practices, and clinical decision-making regarding the timing of early orthodontic intervention in Saudi Arabia. Materials and Methods: An interpretive qualitative study was conducted using semi-structured interviews with nineteen licensed orthodontists practicing in Saudi Arabia. Participants were purposively sampled to ensure diversity in clinical experiences and practice settings. Interviews were conducted in English and Arabic, using detailed contemporaneous field notes that were subsequently expanded for analysis. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis following Braun and Clarke’s framework, with iterative coding supported by investigator triangulation, reflexive memoing, and participant validation. Data collection continued until thematic saturation was achieved. Results: Four major themes were identified. Early intervention was widely perceived as beneficial, particularly for functional problems, Class III malocclusions, and crossbites. However, decision-making was highly individualized, with many clinicians adopting a selective approach and deferring treatment in mild cases. Variation in clinical reasoning was observed across individual participant accounts, reflecting clinical judgment and contextual influences. Key barriers included limited parental awareness, financial constraints, and delayed referrals. System-level factors, such as variability in insurance coverage, referral pathways, and the lack of structured early screening programs, were identified as important influences on access to timely care. Conclusions: Early orthodontic intervention should be applied selectively, based on clinical indications and patient-specific factors. The context-specific findings highlight the need for appropriately tailored guidance, improved referral systems, structured early screening, and consideration of clinical, practitioner-related, and healthcare system factors to support consistent, patient-centered orthodontic care. Background/Objectives: Wastewater-based antimicrobial resistance (AMR) surveillance typically relies on treatment plant influent as a single integrated matrix, obscuring source-specific signals. In arid settings where treated effluent is reused, understanding how resistomes and virulomes are structured across wastewater compartments is essential for One Health monitoring. Methods: Shotgun metagenomic sequencing was applied to 57 wastewater samples collected in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, between October 2024 and January 2025. Samples represented nine community sewer nodes, two tertiary-care hospital outflows, and influent and effluent from two wastewater treatment plants (WWTP). Datasets were used for taxonomic, resistome, and virulome profiling. Alpha diversity was compared using Wilcoxon rank-sum tests, beta-diversity differences were assessed using permutational multivariate analysis of variance, and source-associated AMR genes were identified using linear discriminant analysis effect size analysis. Results: A total of 1470 bacterial species, 822 antimicrobial resistance genes (ARGs), and 1554 virulence factor genes were identified. Bacterial diversity was significantly lower in WWTP effluent than in other compartments. Hospital wastewater was enriched for class D β-lactamases, including multiple blaOXA variants, whereas community wastewater and WWTP influent shared dominant macrolide and aminoglycoside resistance genes including msr(E), mph(E), strB and aadA1. Despite marked reductions in bacterial diversity after treatment, no significant difference in ARG diversity was observed between WWTP influent and WWTP effluent (p = 0.558), with resistance genes such as blaVEB, msr(E), mph(E) detected in the latter. Virulome profiles shifted from fimbrial gene dominance in untreated sources toward biofilm- and persistence-associated genes in WWTP effluent. ARG alpha diversity varied over time, whereas taxonomic and virulome diversity remained stable. Conclusions: Community and influent wastewater capture population-level AMR carriage, hospital outflows concentrate clinically relevant resistance determinants, and WWTP effluent retains resistance markers despite microbial biomass reduction. Compartment-resolved metagenomic surveillance provides a practical One Health framework for identifying high-value monitoring points. Full article

Faculty Acceptance and Instructional Use of Social Media in Higher Education: A Quantitative Case Study from the United Arab Emirates

This single-institution case study examined faculty acceptance and instructional use of social media at the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU), with emphasis on individual-level demographic associations and faculty perceptions of technology-enhanced learning. A cross-sectional survey of 246 faculty members was analyzed using descriptive statistics and contingency-table methods. Female faculty reported higher instructional use than male faculty (88.0% vs. 75.3%; χ2(1, N = 246) = 5.07, p = 0.024; Φ = 0.144; OR = 2.41, 95% CI [1.16, 5.00]), indicating a small association. For age, the omnibus 5 × 2 chi-square test was not statistically significant (χ2(4, N = 246) = 8.17, p = 0.085), although an ordered trend test suggested increasing non-use with age (z = 2.34, p = 0.019); descriptively, this pattern was driven mainly by the 61–70 group rather than a steady increase across all age categories. Academic rank differed overall (χ2(3, N = 246) = 8.70, p = 0.034), but the pattern was non-monotonic, and the prespecified junior-versus-senior comparison was not significant (χ2(1, N = 246) = 2.00, p = 0.157). Faculty reported benefits related to communication, collaboration, audiovisual learning, mobile access, and academic networking, alongside concerns about distraction and reduced interpersonal interaction. Because the study was conducted at one university with a 26.25% response rate, the findings are context-specific and should not be generalized to all UAE or Gulf higher-education institutions.
