Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are among the most prevalent bacterial infections in women, with high recurrence rates and growing concerns over antimicrobial resistance. The need for alternative or adjunctive therapies has spurred interest in plant-based treatments, which offer antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and immune-modulatory benefits. This review summarizes the mechanisms of action, clinical efficacy, and therapeutic potential of various medicinal plants and natural compounds for preventing and treating UTIs in women. Notable candidates include cranberry, bearberry, pomegranate, green tea, and other phytochemicals with proven anti-adhesive and biofilm-disrupting properties. Evidence from clinical trials and meta-analyses supports the role of cranberry natural products and traditional herbal medicines (THMs) in reducing UTI recurrence, especially when combined with antibiotics. Notably, A-type proanthocyanidins in cranberry and arbutin in bearberry are key bioactive compounds that exhibit potent anti-adhesive and biofilm-disrupting properties, offering promising adjunctive strategies for preventing recurrent urinary tract infections. Additionally, emerging therapies, such as platelet-rich plasma (PRP), show promise in restoring bladder function and reducing infection in women with lower urinary tract dysfunction. Overall, plant-based strategies represent a valuable and well-tolerated complement to conventional therapies and warrant further investigation through high-quality clinical trials to validate their efficacy, safety, and role in personalized UTI management. Introduction: Urinary tract infections (UTIs) remain a significant public health issue worldwide, particularly affecting the geriatric population with increased morbidity and mortality. Aging-related immune changes, comorbidities, and urogenital abnormalities contribute to the higher incidence and complexity of UTIs in elderly patients. Antimicrobial resistance, especially extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL) production and carbapenem resistance, poses a major challenge in managing UTIs in this group. Methods: This retrospective, multicenter study included 776 patients aged 65 and older, hospitalized with a diagnosis of urinary tract infection between January 2019 and August 2024. Clinical, laboratory, and microbiological data were collected and analyzed. Urine samples were obtained under sterile conditions and pathogens identified using conventional and automated systems. Antibiotic susceptibility testing was performed according to CLSI standards. Logistic regression analyses were conducted to identify factors associated with ESBL production, carbapenem resistance, and mortality. Results: Among the patients, the median age was 78.9 years, with 45.5% female. ESBL production was detected in 56.8% of E. coli isolates and carbapenem resistance in 1.2%. Klebsiella species exhibited higher carbapenem resistance (37.8%). Independent predictors of ESBL production included the presence of urogenital cancer and antibiotic use within the past three months. Carbapenem resistance was associated with recent hospitalization, absence of kidney stones, and infection with non-E. coli pathogens. Mortality was independently associated with intensive care admission at presentation, altered mental status, Gram-positive infections, and comorbidities such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and urinary incontinence. Discussion: Our findings suggest that urinary pathogens and resistance patterns in elderly patients are similar to those in younger adults reported in the literature, highlighting the need for age-specific awareness in empiric therapy. The identification of risk factors for multidrug-resistant organisms emphasizes the importance of targeted antibiotic stewardship, especially in high-risk geriatric populations. Multicenter data contribute to regional understanding of resistance trends, aiding clinicians in optimizing management strategies for elderly patients with UTIs. Conclusions: This study highlights that E. coli and Klebsiella species are the primary causes of UTIs in the elderly, with resistance patterns similar to those seen in younger adults. The findings also contribute important data on risk factors for ESBL production and carbapenem resistance, supported by a robust patient sample. Full article

The discovery of a resident urinary microbiome has significantly altered the understanding of urolithiasis, expanding its etiology beyond metabolic and dietary factors to include microbial contributions. This review highlights how specific uropathogens—particularly Proteus mirabilis, Klebsiella pneumoniae, and Escherichia coli—facilitate stone formation through mechanisms such as urease activity, citrate degradation, urine alkalinization, biofilm development, and inflammatory signaling. We critically examine how antibiotic therapies, while essential for treating urinary tract infections (UTIs), disrupt microbial homeostasis by depleting beneficial taxa like Lactobacillus and enabling colonization by lithogenic and resistant strains. Recurrent or broad-spectrum antibiotic use is linked to persistent dysbiosis and increased risk of stone recurrence. Additionally, this paper explores emerging microbiome-targeted strategies—such as probiotics, prebiotics, bacteriotherapy, and precision antimicrobials—as potential interventions to restore microbial balance and mitigate stone risk. Recognizing the urinary microbiome as a therapeutic target opens new avenues for personalized, microbiota-conscious strategies in the prevention and management of kidney stone disease. Full article

Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are a common pathology worldwide, frequently associated with kidney stones. We aimed to determine how artificial intelligence (AI) could assist and enhance human medical activities in this field. We performed a search in PubMed using different sets of keywords. When using the keywords “AI, artificial intelligence, urinary tract infections, Escherichia coli (E. coli)”, we identified 16 papers, 12 of which fulfilled our research criteria. When using the keywords “urolithiasis, AI, artificial intelligence”, we identified 72 results, 30 of which were suitable for analysis. We identified that AI/machine learning can be used to detect Gram-negative bacilli involved in UTIs in a fast and accurate way and to detect antibiotic-resistant genes in E. coli. The most frequent AI applications for urolithiasis can be summarized into three categories: The first category relates to patient follow-up, trying to improve physical and medical conditions after specific urologic surgical procedures. The second refers to urinary stone disease (USD), focused on stone evaluation, using different AI and machine learning systems, regarding the stone’s composition in terms of uric acid, its dimensions, its volume, and its speed of detection. The third category comprises the comparison of the ChatGPT-4, Bing AI, Grok, Claude, and Perplexity chatbots in different applications for urolithiasis. ChatGPT-4 has received the most positive evaluations. In conclusion, the impressive number of papers published on different applications of AI in UTIs and urology suggest that machine learning will be exploited effectively in the near future to optimize patient follow-up, diagnosis, and treatment. Background/Objectives: Optimal management of acute bacterial prostatitis (ABP) remains uncertain, but the use of antibiotics with good prostatic tissue penetration is critical to prevent recurrence and chronic progression. This study aimed to describe clinical characteristics and outcomes of ABP due to Escherichia coli (ABP-E.coli), compare effectiveness of sequential high-dose cefuroxime (ABP-CXM) versus ciprofloxacin (ABP-CIP), and identify risk factors for clinical failure. Methods: We conducted a retrospective study including men >18 years diagnosed with ABP-E. coli between January 2010 and November 2023 at a 400-bed hospital. Patients received oral cefuroxime (500 mg/8 h) or oral ciprofloxacin (500 mg/12 h). Outcomes over 90 days included clinical cure, recurrence and reinfection. Definitions: Clinical cure—resolution of symptoms without recurrences; recurrence—new ABP episode with the same E. coli strain; reinfection—ABP involving different microorganism or E. coli strain; clinical failure—lack of cure, recurrence, or reinfection. Results: Among 326 episodes (158 ABP-CXM, 168 ABP-CIP), ABP-CXM patients were younger (median 63.5 vs. 67.5 years, p = 0.005) and had fewer comorbidities. Clinical cure was higher in ABP-CIP (96.9% vs. 85.7%, p < 0.001). Recurrence occurred only in ABP-CXM (6.96% vs. 0%, p < 0.001), while reinfection and mortality were similar. Multivariable analysis showed ciprofloxacin was protective against clinical failure (OR: 0.16, 95% CI: 0.06–0.42, p < 0.001), while prior urinary tract infection (UTI) increased failure risk (OR: 2.87, 95% CI: 1.3–6.3). Conclusions: Ciprofloxacin was more effective than cefuroxime in treating ABP-E. coli. Patients with recent UTIs may need closer monitoring or alternative therapies. Full article

Introduction and Objectives: Bladder injuries are broadly classified based on anatomical location into two main categories: extraperitoneal and intraperitoneal. Traditionally, clinicians manage most extraperitoneal bladder ruptures conservatively with catheter drainage, while intraperitoneal ruptures are surgically repaired. This study aims to evaluate the feasibility of conservative management of intraperitoneal bladder rupture in the largest series to date. Methods: A retrospective review was performed of patients treated for intraperitoneal bladder perforations at two large tertiary care centers from 2015 to 2023. The charts of 290 patients with intraperitoneal perforations were reviewed to compile a list of those who underwent initial conservative management of their rupture via Foley catheter, of which there were 16. Demographic data was collected as well as variables related to patient characteristics, computed tomography (CT) measured size of perforation, management, complications, and follow-up. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, and comparative analyses (t-test and Fisher’s exact test) were performed. Results: Our final analysis identified 16 patients with intraperitoneal bladder rupture treated with initial conservative management. Of these patients, 15 (94%) were successfully managed with Foley catheter placement. Four patients (25%) experienced complications after conservative management, which included long-term urinary incontinence/retention, urinary tract infection (UTI), and pelvic abscess. For patients successfully managed conservatively, the median duration of catheterization was 18 days (IQR 21.75). Conclusions: For patients with small intraperitoneal bladder ruptures, conservative management with prolonged Foley catheterization is a suitable and successful strategy. Future studies evaluating outcomes in larger cohorts of patients will help determine whether this strategy should be considered more frequently in select patient populations. Full article

Background: Urinary tract infections represent a significant healthcare burden, particularly among vulnerable patients with chronic comorbidities. In this case report, we describe a UTI caused by Kluyvera ascorbata exhibiting an AmpC resistance pattern in an 85-year-old male with stage IV chronic kidney disease and a history of ESBL-positive infection. Methods: A comprehensive diagnostic workup was performed, including clinical evaluation, laboratory tests (urinalysis, complete blood count, renal function tests), and microbiological cultures with antibiogram analysis using the MicroScan WalkAway (Beckman Coulter, Brea, United States) and VITEK2 Compact systems (bioMérieux, Marcy L’Étoile or Craponne, France). Results: The initial urine culture revealed a Gram-negative bacillus and subsequent identification confirmed K. ascorbata, which demonstrated resistance to ampicillin and cefazolin while remaining susceptible to meropenem. The patient received intravenous meropenem therapy for 10 days, resulting in clinical improvement and a subsequent negative urine culture. Conclusions: This case reports a complicated urinary tract infection caused by K. ascorbata with an AmpC resistance pattern, highlighting the importance of considering this infrequently reported pathogen and its resistance profile in vulnerable patients. Its multidrug-resistant profile underscores the necessity for vigilant antimicrobial stewardship and further research to develop standardized treatment protocols for managing infections caused by this organism. Background/Objectives: Continuous epidural analgesia (CEA) is commonly used to manage postoperative pain in young infants. However, it can impair bladder function, leading to postoperative urinary retention (POUR) and necessitating Foley catheter placement, which carries a risk of urinary tract infection (UTI). Limited research exists on the frequency of POUR and UTIs and factors influencing optimal Foley catheter management in this population. Methods: A retrospective chart analysis conducted at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh included 103 infants who had surgery with CEA. The patients were assigned to Group A (Foley catheter removed before epidural discontinuation), Group B (Foley catheter removed after epidural discontinuation), and Group C (no Foley catheter placement). Data collected included demographics, details regarding urinary complications, epidural analgesia, pain management, and Foley catheter management. Results: The median/IQR age was 8 weeks (0.71–13.29), and the weight was 3.01 (2.55–3.52) kg. POURs occurred shortly after surgery in two (1.9%) infants with no initial Foley catheter placement (p = 0.101). Two (1.9%) infants in Group B developed a UTI (p = 0.327). A total of 10 (9.7%) (Groups A and B) had a preexisting urologic condition (p = 0.040). Common surgeries included exploratory laparotomy with bowel resection (34%) and stoma closure (28.2%). The epidural catheter was discontinued on postoperative day 3 (median) (p = 0.587). Total opioid administration, median/IQR (MME mg/kg), was significantly higher in Group B (1.7/0.6–3.8) and Group A (0.7/0.3–1.8) compared to Group C (0.6/0.3–1.1) (p = 0.029). Conclusions: No POUR occurred when the Foley catheter was removed before the epidural was discontinued. UTIs occurred when the Foley catheter remained after epidural discontinuation. Our findings highlight the importance of individualized assessment for urinary catheter placement and early removal in young infants receiving CEA. Full article

Background/Objectives: Ureteral stents are indispensable tools in contemporary urological practice; however, their prolonged indwelling is frequently associated with a spectrum of complications. This study aims to evaluate the correlation between indwelling duration and the extent of stent encrustation, as well as the impact on extraction difficulty. Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 33 patients treated at Clinical County Emergency Hospital of Brașov between December 2023 and December 2024. All patients had polyurethane double-J ureteral stents placed. Parameters assessed included the degree of stent encrustation, discoloration, incidence of urinary tract infections (UTIs), and extraction difficulty. These were analyzed in relation to indwelling time and patient comorbidities. Statistical processing was performed using SPSS 23.0 software, with significance set at p < 0.05. Results: A statistically significant association was observed between longer stent indwelling times and higher grades of encrustation, particularly for the intervals of 45–90 days and over 90 days (p = 0.008 and p = 0.01, respectively). Low encrustation demonstrated correlations with certain comorbidities, whereas no statistically relevant associations were found for moderate and severe encrustation. Black coloration of the stents was strongly associated with UTIs caused by Escherichia coli, Klebsiella spp., and Enterococcus spp. (p < 0.001), as well as with extended indwelling durations (p < 0.001). No significant correlation was identified between the presence of UTIs and the degree of stent encrustation. Conclusions: Indwelling time is a critical determinant of both ureteral stent encrustation and discoloration, with direct implications for clinical decision-making regarding stent management and extraction planning. Timely removal and close monitoring are essential to reduce the risk of complications associated with long-term stent placement. Full article

Urethroplasty is a highly effective surgical treatment for urethral stricture disease. While overall complication rates are low, surgical site infections and urinary tract infections (UTIs) represent the most common complications. Due to the prolonged need for catheterization following reconstruction, many urologists place patients on extended antibiotic prophylaxis postoperatively. However, antibiotic stewardship is important given the risks of antibiotic overuse including opportunistic infections and the emergence of multidrug-resistant organisms. There are currently no established guidelines for the management of antibiotics for patients undergoing urethroplasty, specifically with regard to postoperative prophylaxis through the time of foley catheter removal. In this review, we examine the current literature regarding antibiotic prophylaxis and urethroplasty. Research has shown no clear benefit for extended antibiotic prophylaxis in preventing symptomatic urinary tract infections or stricture recurrence. This is congruent with evidence from other urologic procedures requiring indwelling catheters and/or stents including radical prostatectomy, hypospadias repair, and pyeloplasty. Prospective, randomized trials are needed to further understand the impact of antibiotic prophylaxis on both urethroplasty outcomes and its broader impact on recurrent UTIs and microbial resistance. Background: Urinary tract infection (UTI) is predominantly caused by uropathogenic Escherichia coli (UPEC). Previous studies have reported that the fimbriae of UPEC are involved in virulence and antimicrobial resistance. We aimed to analyze the fimbrial gene profiles of UPEC and investigate the specificity of these expressions in symptomatic UTI, urinary device use, and levofloxacin (LVFX) resistance/extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL) production. Methods: A total of 120 UPEC strains were isolated by urine culture between 2019 and 2023 at our institution. They were subjected to an antimicrobial susceptibility test and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) to identify 14 fimbrial genes and their association with clinical outcomes or antimicrobial resistance. Results: The prevalence of the papG2 gene was significantly higher in the symptomatic UTI group by multivariate analyses (OR 5.850, 95% CI 1.390–24.70, p = 0.016). The prevalence of the c2395 gene tended to be lower in the symptomatic UTI group with urinary devices (all p < 0.05). In LVFX-resistant UPEC strains from both the asymptomatic bacteriuria (ABU) and the symptomatic UTI group, the expression of the papEF, papG3, c2395, and yadN genes tended to be lower (all p < 0.05). Conclusion: The fimbrial genes of UPEC are associated with virulence and LVFX resistance, suggesting that even UPEC with fewer motility factors may be more likely to ascend the urinary tract in the presence of the urinary devices. These findings may enhance not only the understanding of the virulence of UPEC but also the management of UTI. Full article

Objectives: This retrospective analysis was conducted to update the antibiotic sensitivity profiles of Escherichia coli (E. coli) in urinary tract infections (UTIs) among adults (≥18 years) in Jordan. Methods: Data were collected from patients diagnosed with UTIs and confirmed by positive E. coli cultures between 1 January 2019 and 9 July 2021. The resistance patterns of E. coli to empiric antibiotics were assessed by matching the prescribed antibiotics with those tested, using clinical breakpoints to classify isolates as susceptible or resistant. Results: During the study, 230 patients with urine cultures confirming E. coli infection were included. Empiric antibiotics were prescribed to 87.4% (n = 201) of patients. Sensitivity testing was performed for 136 patients (59.1%), revealing that 62 patients (27%) had E. coli strains resistant to at least one antibiotic. Among the 236 empiric antibiotics prescribed, the appropriateness of 72 agents (30.5%) could not be determined owing to the absence of sensitivity testing. The culture results indicate that eight antibiotics (3.3%) did not provide adequate coverage against E. coli. Of the remaining 156 agents (66.1%) subjected to sensitivity testing, 89 (37.7%) were effective, while 67 (28.3%) were ineffective owing to bacterial resistance. Patients who underwent sensitivity tests performed had significantly longer hospital stays (10 days) than those who did not (8 days; p = 0.032). Female patients had a higher proportion of resistant E. coli isolates (51.5%) compared to males (30.8%, p = 0.036). Conclusions: This study highlights the importance of ongoing surveillance to guide empiric therapy and promote appropriate antibiotic use. Tailoring treatment based on patient-specific factors is essential to effectively managing antimicrobial resistance and improving clinical outcomes. Full article

Background/Objectives: Urinary tract infections (UTIs) represent a significant public health challenge, with Escherichia coli being the primary causative pathogen. The rise in antimicrobial resistance (AMR), further intensified by shifts in antibiotic prescribing practices during and after the COVID-19 pandemic, poses substantial difficulties in treatment optimization and clinical management. Methods: This retrospective study analyzed 644 E. coli strains from urine samples collected in a southeastern Romanian hospital during two periods: pre-pandemic (2018–2019, N = 361) and post-pandemic (2023–2024, N = 283). Antimicrobial susceptibility was assessed using the VITEK automated system for key antibiotic classes. Results: A significant increase in fluoroquinolone resistance was observed, especially for ciprofloxacin (p = 0.02), alongside rising ceftriaxone resistance (p = 0.004), suggesting the spread of ESBL-producing strains. Resistance to trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole, ampicillin, and amoxicillin/clavulanic acid remained high, limiting their empirical use. Carbapenem resistance was low (p > 0.1), while nitrofurantoin and fosfomycin retained high efficacy (p = 0.26 and p = 0.64). Conclusions: The post-pandemic period showed a concerning rise in resistance to fluoroquinolones and third-generation cephalosporins, highlighting the need for stricter antimicrobial stewardship. Carbapenems remain effective for severe infections, while nitrofurantoin and fosfomycin are reliable first-line options for uncomplicated UTIs. Continuous AMR surveillance is essential to optimize treatment and curb multidrug-resistant strains. Full article

Congenital anomalies of the kidney and urinary tract (CAKUT) are common developmental malformations and a leading cause of pediatric renal dysfunction. Severe hydronephrosis, especially when accompanied by ureteral duplication, ureterocele, or neurogenic bladder, poses significant diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. This case report presents a 7-year-old male with prenatally diagnosed bilateral grade IV/V hydronephrosis (according to the radiology hydronephrosis grading system), complicated by the right pyeloureteral duplication, the left ureterocele, and the neurogenic bladder. The patient’s clinical course was marked by recurrent urinary tract infections (UTIs), progressive renal dysfunction, and multiple surgical interventions. Initial decompression via bilateral ureterostomy and stenting led to significant improvements in renal function. However, the patient experienced recurrent febrile UTIs caused by multidrug-resistant pathogens, necessitating repeated hospitalizations and intravenous antibiotic therapy. Serial imaging studies documented persistent hydronephrosis, a neurogenic bladder, and vesicoureteral reflux. Subsequent surgical interventions included bilateral ureteral reimplantation, excision of the left ureterocele, and removal of a fibroepithelial polyp from the bladder wall. Despite these interventions, residual left hydronephrosis and right kidney hypoplasia persisted, underscoring the need for long-term surveillance. This case highlights the diagnostic and therapeutic challenges of managing CAKUT and emphasizes the importance of a multidisciplinary approach integrating imaging, functional assessment, and surgical planning. Early diagnosis and timely intervention can stabilize renal function, but ongoing monitoring and individualized treatment remain crucial for optimizing long-term outcomes in children with complex CAKUT. Background: Mapping the local etiology and susceptibility of common pathogens causing complicated urinary tract infection (cUTI) is important for promoting evidence-based antimicrobial prescribing. Evaluating the prevalence of extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL), AmpC beta-lactamase (AmpC), and carbapenemase-producing Enterobacterales (CPEs) is equally important as it informs treatment guidelines and empiric management. Whole genome sequencing (WGS) enhances antimicrobial resistance (AMR) surveillance by complementing phenotypic antimicrobial susceptibility testing, offering deeper insights into resistance mechanisms, transmissions, and evolutions. Integrating it into routine AMR monitoring can significantly improve global efforts to combat antimicrobial resistance. Methods: Antimicrobial susceptibility profiles of isolates from cUTI were collected from patients presenting with Sultan Qaboos University Hospital, Muscat and Suhar Hospital, Suhar, Oman. Automated systems as well as manual methods were used for detection of ESBL, AmpC, and CPE. ESBLs, AmpC β-lactamases, and CPEs were further detected by manual methods: double-disk synergy test for ESBL; disk approximation assay and D69C AmpC detection set for AmpC, and mCIM and KPC/IMP/NDM/VIM/OXA-48 Combo test kit for CPE. WGS was carried out in 11 FOX-resistant E. coli and (22 carbapenem-resistant K. pneumoniae) isolates with varying susceptibilities to identify circulating clades, AMR genes, and plasmids. Bioinformatic analysis was performed using online tools. Results: The susceptibility patterns of E. coli from cUTI were as follows: nitrofurantoin (96%), fosfomycin (100%), fluoroquinolones (44%), aminoglycosides (93%), piperacillin-tazobactam (95%), and carbapenems (98%). In comparison, susceptibility rates of K. pneumoniae were far lower: nitrofurantoin (38%), fosfomycin (89%), aminoglycosides (82%), piperacillin-tazobactam (72%), and carbapenems (83%). K. pneumoniae, however, was more susceptible to fluoroquinolones at 47% in comparison to E. coli. The prevalence of ESBL among E. coli and K. pneumoniae was 37.2% and CRE was 6.2% while the estimated prevalence of AmpC was 5.4%. It was observed that E. coli was the predominant ESBL and AmpC producer, while K. pneumoniae was the major carbapenem-resistant Enterobacterales (CREs) producer. No predominant multi-locus sequence typing (MLST) lineage was observed in AmpC-producing E. coli with nine E. coli MLST lineages being identified from eleven isolates: ST-10, ST-69, ST-77, ST-131, ST-156, ST-167, ST-361, ST-1125, and ST-2520. On the other hand, a less diverse MLST spectrum (ST-2096, ST-231, ST-147, ST-1770, and ST-111) was observed in the CRE K. pneumoniae. Among the five MLST lineages, ST-2096 (twelve isolates) and ST-147 (seven isolates) predominated. WGS revealed that DHA-1 was the predominant plasmid-mediated AmpC gene in E. coli, while OXA-232 and NDM-5 were the most common carbapenemase genes in K. pneumoniae. All E. coli DHA-1-positive isolates co-harbored the quinolone resistance gene qnrB4 and the sulfonamide resistance gene sul1 while no aminoglycoside resistance genes were detected. The majority of CPE CRE K. pneumoniae carried other β-lactamase genes, such as blaCTX-M-15, blaSHV, and blaTEM; all co-harbored the quinolone resistance gene OqxAB; and 77% carried the aminoglycoside resistance gene armA. Conclusions: Our results suggest that fosfomycin is an excellent empiric choice for treating complicated cystitis caused by both E. coli and K. pneumoniae, while nitrofurantoin is an appropriate choice for E. coli cystitis but not for K. pneumoniae. Aminoglycosides and piperacillin-tazobactam are excellent intravenous alternatives that spare carbapenems. DHA-1 was the predominant AmpC in E. coli, while OXA-232 and NDM-5 were the predominant carbapenemases in K. pneumoniae. In AmpC-producing E. coli, no MLST predominated, suggesting a significant flux in E. coli with lack of stable clades in this region. In contrast, ST-2096 and ST-147 predominated in CRE Klebsiella pneumoniae, suggesting a stable circulation of these in Oman. WGS profiling provides a deeper understanding of the genetic basis of resistance and enhances surveillance and offers comprehensive insights into pathogen evolution and transmission patterns.
