This study investigates the mechanisms through which employees’ green behavioural intention (GBI) translates into employee in-role green behaviour (EGB-IR) in the hospitality sector. Drawing on the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) and the Value-Belief Norm (VBN) theory, we propose an extended model that incorporates four contextual mediators —customers’ environmental attitudes (CEAs), coworkers’ green work climate (CGWC), supervisors’ commitment to the environment (SCE), and environmental organisational policy (EOP)—to explain how the relationship between intentions and behaviours is mediated by these social and organisational factors. Data were collected through a self-administered survey of 497 employees from hotels located in the Canary Islands, a recognised coastal tourism destination facing relevant environmental challenges. The proposed relationships were tested using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM). Results confirm that GBI significantly predicts in-role green behaviour (EGB-IR), and all four contextual factors partially mediate this relationship. Among them, EOP and CGWC emerged as the most influential mediators. These findings underscore the importance of aligning individual motivation with supportive workplace environments to foster consistent sustainable practices in hospitality organisations. This research contributes to the growing literature on green behaviours in hospitality by empirically validating a multilevel TPB-VBN-theory-based framework and highlighting key points for hotel managers aiming to strengthen their environmental commitment through employee engagement. Active commuting by bicycle offers health and environmental benefits, yet it remains uncommon among university populations. This study aimed to identify key factors influencing bicycle commuting among university students and staff based on cyclist typology and to assess the applicability of the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) and socio-ecological models. A total of 305 students and 79 staff completed a questionnaire assessing sociodemographic, psychological, social, and environmental variables. Results revealed significant differences based on cyclist typology. Urban cyclists reported fewer perceived barriers (1.96 ± 0.59) and more advantages (3.61 ± 0.40) than non-cyclists (2.71 ± 0.56 and 3.26 ± 0.49, respectively; p < 0.001). While personal and psychological factors were most influential for non-cyclists, environmental aspects were more relevant for urban cyclists and cyclists. Multinomial logistic regression showed that for both cyclists and urban cyclists, bicycle ownership (OR = 0.098–0.104, p < 0.001) and intention to use (OR = 0.091–0.358, p ≤ 0.02) were key predictors of cycling behaviour. Although gender was only a significant predictor for cyclists (OR = 3.41, p = 0.003), this variable did not influence urban cycling behaviour. These findings support using TPB and socio-ecological models to design targeted, multilevel interventions. Full article

This study aims to assess the factors influencing homeowner behaviour regarding climate-adaptive renovations. This study extends the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) by integrating additional factors such as inherent homeowner qualities (IHQs) and building attributes (BAs) to better capture climate-adaptive renovation decisions. Different configurations for the impacts of these additional factors were tested, and their correlation to homeowner attitudes (ATs) and homeowner intentions (INTs) was studied. The results indicate that attitudes related to beliefs about climate change impacts are the strongest predictors of climate-adaptive behaviour. It was also found that IHQ was a strong determinant of homeowner attitudes and had a strong indirect impact on homeowner intentions to perform climate-adaptive renovations. Given the significant role of cognitive attitudes in shaping climate-adaptive behaviours, policy interventions should focus on fostering more climate-conscious attitudes. Targeted public campaigns can highlight localised climate risks and the benefits of adaptive renovations. Sharing narratives from regions affected by severe climate events, potentially in the form of targeted workshop sessions, could make climate risks more tangible, especially for those without direct exposure, fostering greater public engagement and adaptive actions. Despite the efforts to advance children’s rights’ protection, many children’s rights are still not respected in many places. This makes it more necessary than ever to raise the awareness of children’s rights and prepare new generations of students to protect children’s rights via empowering them to engage in activism. Drawing upon human rights education (HRE) models in conjunction with UNICEF’s methodologies, and the theory of planned behaviour (TPB), the current conceptual article suggests that by designing theoretically based engaging and meaningful learning activities, teachers can address the goals of HRE by raising the awareness of children’s rights, fostering accountability, and encouraging students to engage in activism to protect children’s rights. First, this article outlines a conceptual framework for designing meaningful and engaging learning activities within an adapted HRE model, combining the elements of HRE and UNICEF. Next, the educational innovation of Skills Labs in Greek education is introduced, and the TPB’s foundation on designing learning activities is briefly explained. To clarify our proposal, three sample Skills Labs with example learning activities are presented, adhering to the three main HRE objectives of gaining knowledge–taking responsibility–taking action to protect and consolidate children’s rights. Finally, this article explains the mechanism of how the TPB can support the effectiveness of this proposition and concludes with some important implications for practice. Full article

Research has demonstrated that social–emotional learning (SEL) positively influences myriad domains of children’s development. However, the underlying mechanisms influencing teachers’ adoption of SEL remain underexplored. Guided by the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB), this quantitative cross-sectional study sought to elucidate the factors that motivate teachers to adopt SEL teaching practices. The study’s sample included 166 volunteer teachers in Luxembourg, recruited as part of a nationwide educational survey. Of these, 82.5% were women. Participants were recruited through convenience sampling, ensuring diversity in socio-economic backgrounds, grade levels, and student needs. Although these findings are based on self-reported data, they offer novel insights by quantifying teachers’ engagement with SEL, with over 50% already implementing related activities. Structural equation modelling shows that the TPB model accounted for 49% of the variance in teachers’ intentions and 44% of the variance in the adoption of SEL practices. Higher intention and self-efficacy predicted more frequent SEL implementation. Teachers with positive SEL attitudes and higher self-efficacy showed greater intention to implement SEL. These findings underscore the significance of cultivating positive attitudes and self-efficacy to facilitate the effective implementation of SEL in educational settings. The role of teacher gender and audience, as well as implications for teaching, professional development, and SEL research, are discussed. Full article

The chilled ready meal market in New Zealand has witnessed substantial growth, fuelled by the increasing demand for convenient food options. This study integrates the theory of consumption value (TCV) with the theory of planned behaviour (TPB) to explore how lifestyle, consumer knowledge, sensory properties, subjective norms, consumer choice behaviour, consumption habits, and perceived behavioural control influence the purchase intention of meat-based chilled ready meals. Partial least squares path modelling (PLSPM) was used to verify the conceptual model using data from an online survey of 464 meat-based ready meal consumers from New Zealand. The results revealed that consumer attitudes towards meat-based chilled ready meals were positively influenced by lifestyle, consumer knowledge, and sensory properties, but these attitudes negatively impacted purchase intention, emphasising the complexity of consumer decision-making. Subjective norms, particularly social influences, significantly shaped consumers’ intentions. Furthermore, consumer choice behaviour, including conditional value, epistemic value, and emotional value, significantly influenced purchase intentions, with consumption habits emerging as the strongest predictor. Price had the highest influence on perceived behavioural control, while packaging information had little direct effect on perceived behavioural control. The findings of this study provide actionable insights for businesses to tailor marketing strategies and enhance consumer acceptance by improving product quality and sensory appeal of meat-based chilled ready meals in New Zealand. With the escalating environmental issues, the imperatives to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions and advance energy products through innovation, energy production, and consumption frequently result in environmental externalities. Conventional markets frequently struggle to address these external factors, resulting in market failures. Consumers are more aware of the environmental repercussions, regulatory mandates, and potential economic benefits of new energy vehicles (NEVs). Consequently, there has been a substantial surge in the demand for NEVs as alternatives to conventional vehicles. This study analyses the method by which innovative technology moves from the stage of purchase intention dissemination toward market adoption and explores strategies to expedite this process. Moreover, it examines how the intentions of customers to purchase ecologically friendly energy goods and their receptiveness to such products affect the expansion of the market. Further analysis indicates that the factors influencing consumers’ attitudes towards NEVs include the adoption of ecological innovation, awareness of environmental product knowledge, and perceived value of innovative, environmentally friendly energy products. The purpose of this study is to expand upon the existing literature on consumer demand, examining the influential factors that extend the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) to enhance consumer intention through internal mechanisms. It explicitly focuses on these aspects, as well as perceived risk (PR) and perceived value (PV), to identify gaps in the literature and contribute to intentions to purchase NEVs in China. This study presents a thorough research framework for efficiently examining customer demand for comparable eco-friendly energy products. It investigates the potential influence of attitudes, subjective norms, perceived behavioural control, and environmental perceptions, specifically those concerning environmental knowledge and concerns. Moreover, personal factors such as attitude, normative beliefs, and perceived control beliefs were found to impact consumer attitudes towards NEVs. The key factor influencing purchasing intention was the attitude towards NEVs. Simultaneously, subjective norms did not have a direct effect on purchase intentions. However, social influence played a significant role in the decision-making process, with perceived behavioural control and subjective norms exerting considerable influence. Full article

This study elucidates that blaming individuals rather than governments surprisingly augments support for governmental regulations, highlighting the complexities of blame attribution in shaping public adherence to health policies. It underscores the nuanced roles of TPB elements like subjective norms and behavioural control, revealing that feelings of empowerment, social responsibility, and recognizing personal roles in pandemic control enhance the inclination to support governmental directives. The outcomes emphasize the criticality of understanding blame attribution and TPB dynamics for devising efficacious communication and management strategies, promoting societal adherence to essential regulations and actions during health crises, and fostering a more resilient societal infrastructure for dealing with pandemics. Introduction: Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) are an agile context for workplace training, which can provide physicians with needed knowledge and skills related to their clinical practice. From an organisational standpoint, their effectiveness can be assessed on physicians’ intention to transfer what they learn through them in the workplace. Despite the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) standing among the more solid models in explaining individuals’ behavioural intention, its adoption in investigating the training transfer process among physicians is notably underdeveloped, limiting its contribution to enhancing the transfer rates of MOOCs content. Method: Based on such a consideration, the present study adopted an extended TPB model to investigate the potential psychosocial factors affecting the intention to transfer knowledge and skills learned through MOOCs in the workplace among 217 Italian physicians who completed an online self-report questionnaire. Results: Hierarchical regression analyses were performed, showing that among the TPB variables, perceived behavioural control and attitude significantly predicted transfer intention. The inclusion of training satisfaction and job autonomy in the model significantly increased the explained variance in intention. Conclusions: These findings have valuable implications for human resource development (HRD) in healthcare as they suggest the need to design MOOCs based on a flexible competency model in order to promote physicians’ engagement and commitment to adopting new knowledge and skills. Finally, interventions aimed at recognising physicians’ efforts in transferring learned content as well as empowering their ability to shape how they perform their professional duties could further enhance the impact of workplace training. Employer disability confidence is a concept being used increasingly in employment interventions and policies targeting the demand side of the labour market to support the employment of people with disability. However, the concept is not well-defined and lacks a theoretical basis, inhibiting its application to best effect. This study aims to develop a conceptual model of employer disability confidence to fill in the definitional and theoretical gap in the current practice and literature. The paper presents a synthesis of the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) and explores the literature that reports on use of TPB in disability employment contexts. We have applied the TPB to explain the concept of employer disability confidence. In the proposed framework, disability confidence is theorised to be the sum of the attitudes towards hiring people with disability, the perceived social expectations, and the perception of the employer and workplace of control over factors enabling and hindering employment of people with disability. Development of a theory-based and action-oriented framework for employer disability confidence could contribute to designing initiatives and interventions aimed at employers and workplaces to remove barriers to employment for people with disability, as well as understanding and assessing the effectiveness of implementation of such interventions. The scarcity of water resources in South Africa remains a considerable challenge for water users. This study evaluated the impact of climate variability on the adaptive water-use behaviour of sugarcane producers by identifying the factors influencing their adaptation decisions. A survey, the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB), and structural equation modelling (SEM) were used to achieve this objective. The study involved 54 sugarcane producers from the Impala Irrigation Scheme, selected through random sampling. Socio-economic profiles revealed a largely male, older demographic with varied education levels and farm characteristics. Results indicated that attitude (β = 0.349, p < 0.1) and subjective norms (β = 0.281, p < 0.05) significantly influenced farmers’ intentions to adapt, while perceived behavioural control had no significant effect (β = 0.051, p > 0.1). These findings suggest that improving farmers’ attitudes and strengthening social support systems can enhance their intentions to adopt adaptive strategies. However, the model’s explanatory power (R² = 0.276) suggests that other unexamined factors may also influence farmers’ adaptive intentions, highlighting the need for further research. Overall, our findings suggest that interventions targeting attitudes, social support, and resource access can improve adaptive behaviours. Full article

Understanding the factors that drive consumers to purchase electric vehicles (EVs) is critical to achieving decarbonization of China’s transportation sector, as well as mitigating global warming. This study aims to construct a research model based on altruistic and self-interested perspectives by integrating the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) and Norm Activation Model (NAM) to predict the psychological factors that influence Chinese consumers’ intention to purchase EVs. Data were collected from 867 participants in China and empirically tested using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). Self-interested factors, namely subjective norms, attitudes and perceived behavioural control, all had a significant positive effect on EV purchase intention. Additionally, the results showed that personal norms had the greatest effect on EV purchase intention. It was also found that awareness of consequence, ascription of responsibility and subjective norms were positive predictors of personal norms. Awareness of consequence had a positive effect on both the ascription of responsibility and attitudes. The findings contribute to understanding the psychological drivers of Chinese consumers’ intention to purchase EVs and can provide decision-making references for policy makers and manufacturers. Electric aircraft are seen as a key option for reducing the environmental footprint of the aviation industry. This research aims to identify the factors that influence Turkish air travellers’ intentions to adopt electric aircraft by building upon the theory of planned behaviour (TPB). A structured online survey was developed to gather cross-sectional data from 217 air travellers using convenience sampling. The data were analysed through a multi-method approach, including structural equation modelling (SEM) for sufficiency analysis and necessary condition analysis (NCA) for necessity analysis. The findings reveal that attitudes, subjective norms, perceived behavioural control, personal moral norms, and green trust positively correlate with the intention to adopt electric aircraft, whereas perceived risk has a negative correlation. Moreover, the NCA indicates that attitudes, subjective norms, perceived behavioural control, personal moral norms, environmental knowledge, and green trust are necessary conditions for the intention to adopt electric aircraft, reinforcing these results. This study is the first empirical attempt to investigate the formation of the intention to adopt electric aircraft, built on both sufficiency and necessity logics. Full article

Over the past decade, the concept and practice of shopstreaming (also known as livestream shopping) have grown significantly within the e-business world, as it integrates live streaming technology with e-commerce. However, the relationship between the perceived benefits of this shopping mode and the intention to use it is not fully understood. This research seeks to enhance the current understanding of this relationship by studying the association in the context of fashion and personal care (FPC) goods. Uniquely, the study bases its core model on a combination of the theory of planned behaviour (TPB) and some elements of the enhanced stimulus–organism–response (ESOR) theory, which incorporates cognitive, emotional and physiological processes within the organism component. This enables the development of a framework which facilitates the examination of the relationship between perceived benefits and intention to purchase within a shopstreaming environment, moderated by attitude (organism). The uniqueness of the study is further enhanced by the inclusion and analysis of perceived platform quality and the streamer’s (seller’s) influence as moderating constructs. These analyses were carried out using data from 901 respondents to a structured questionnaire, collected over a 4-month period. The results of the study showed that the seller has a significant moderating effect on the mediation of intention to purchase by attitude, though the mediation between perceived benefits and attitude was not affected by perceived platform quality. The study therefore offers significant insights to Saudi FPC brands, streamers and marketing agencies to develop and optimise sales and content strategy. Full article

Internal rural-urban migration is becoming a priority in social research. However, no one has systematically studied the intentions of farmers to migrate internally to Bangladesh to seek permanent urban residence via paid employment yet. This paper develops a TPB (theory of planned behaviour) model to explain farmers’ intentions to migrate or not migrate to cities for paid employment; then, this paper tests the model against the data collected. A total 372 individuals (migrated farmers) were randomly chosen from 11,200 families who had left a rural area in Bangladesh to collect quantitative data about the issues raised in the model; the data were collected by a telephone interview. The socioeconomic profile of the respondents fits that of internal migrants identified in the literature, and the Cronbach’s alpha as well as composite reliability statistics suggest that the data are representative of the population. According to the structural equation modelling (SEM) data, attitudes towards migration (ATTs) and subjective norms (SNs) have an impact on migration intention (MI), while perceived behavioural control (PBC) show no significant effect. This study used a primary dataset from interviews with rural migrants working in different sectors in different cities in Bangladesh. This suggests that the planned behaviour model may help explain farmers’ decisions to migrate internally in Bangladesh and that policies based on the model may successfully reduce such migration.
