Background and Objectives: Spinopelvic alignment may affect the outcomes of total hip arthroplasty (THA), with pelvic version influencing the risk of mechanical complications occurring after surgery. On the other hand, THA surgery itself may contribute to the modification of pelvis version. The sacro-femoro-pubic (SFP) angle is measured on anteroposterior (AP) radiographs of the pelvis in a supine position, and is used to estimate pelvic tilt (PT), representative of pelvic version, which requires lateral views of the sacrum for its calculation; however, these X rays are not routinely performed in the preoperative setting of hip surgery. This study aims to analyze how THA determines changes in the pelvic version of operated patients; the SFP angle will be used to assess pelvic version on standard AP radiographs. Materials and Methods: This retrospective study included 182 consecutive patients undergoing THA for unilateral primary degenerative hip osteoarthritis (HOA-study group, n = 104) or femoral neck fracture (FNF-control group, n = 78) at the author’s institution. The SFP angle was measured on AP pelvic radiographs of the non-replaced hip preoperatively, postoperatively, and at the last follow-up. PT values were derived from SFP angles. Pre- and postoperative PT and its variations ΔPT were assessed. Study groups were compared in terms of native and postoperative variations of pelvic version. Results: The average absolute value of ΔPT was 2.99° ± 3.07° in the HOA group and 3.57° ± 2.92° in FNF group. There was no significant overall difference in preoperative or postoperative PT values between groups. In both groups, THA surgery led to a certain improvement, still not significant, in pelvic orientation, with FNF patients presenting a greater tendency toward retroversion. No significant differences in complication rates were found comparing patients with different pelvic orientations. Conclusions: THA can lead to a “normalization” of pelvic version in a certain number of patients with preoperative anteversion or retroversion. Although statistically non-significant, this observation may have clinical implications for spinopelvic balance and could support prioritizing THA in patients with concurrent spinal disease. Further research is needed to confirm these findings and to evaluate the long-term impact of THA on spinopelvic alignment. Full article

The aim was to assess the blending effect of universal-shade resin-based composites (RBCs) (Omnichroma—OC; Clearfil Majesty Universal–CM; Venus Pearl—V; Transcend—T) used for repair for lithium disilicate blocks. Fifteen parallelepiped-shaped (10.5 × 10.5 × 3 mm) specimens with four cavities (3 mm in diameter and 2 mm in depth) were designed from lithium disilicate CAD/CAM blocks (CEREC Tessera HT A3) and milled. Specimens were then randomly divided into five groups based on the five resin composite materials for cavity restoration (n = 12): Group 1, control group (F); Group 2 (T); Group 3 (OC); Group 4 (V); and Group 5 (CM). After surface conditioning, composite resins were applied to the ceramic surface. Color measurements were taken with a colorimeter in the center of the resin restoration and on the CAD/CAM block. Tristimulus values were converted to CIELab color coordinates and color differences were expressed in ΔE00 units using the CIEDE-2000 formula. F showed significantly better color matching (ΔE00 = 2.51 ± 0.64) in comparison to single-shade RBCs except T (ΔE00 = 2.55 ± 0.64). All groups exceeded perceptibility and acceptability thresholds. The control group presented higher color matching than the single shade universal composites except for Transcend. Full article

Lemon basil (Ocimum × citriodorum) is a highly valued aromatic plant renowned for its distinct citrus aroma. This study aimed to evaluate sustainable substrates and cultivation systems for its production. Two complementary and sequential experiments were conducted: an initial experiment designed to compare coconut fiber mixed in varying proportions with perlite to rock wool, evaluating their effectiveness during germination and early growth (experiment 1), and a subsequent experiment aimed at assessing plant performance in a decoupled aquaponic system relative to hydroponics utilizing the best-performing coconut fiber-perlite mixture from the first phase along with rock wool as substrates (experiment 2). The substrate with 70% coconut fiber and 30% perlite (F70:P30) significantly improved seed germination, leaf number, and total leaf area of seedlings. The decoupled aquaponic cultivation system resulted in a 52.5% increase in flavonoid content, accompanied by higher calcium and magnesium uptake in stems and roots compared to hydroponics. These findings clearly underscore the potential of coconut fiber substrates mixed with perlite as sustainable alternatives to rock wool, reducing environmental impact, disposal costs, and health risks. Similarly, aquaponic cultivation emerges as a valuable strategy for sustainable lemon basil (Ocimum × citriodorum) production, offering comparable yields to hydroponics while improving plant nutritional and phytochemical quality through beneficial plant-microbe interactions. These results provide practical evidence supporting the adoption of environmentally friendly substrates and cultivation practices, thus contributing significantly toward sustainable intensive vegetable production systems. Background/Objectives: Clear cell sarcoma (CCS) is a very uncommon, aggressive soft-tissue sarcoma (STS) with a dismal prognosis. In the current literature, there are very limited data focused on the radiological features of CCS. Our study’s objective was to describe CCS pre-treatment’s peculiar imaging characteristics (MRI above all) and to assess if some radiologic features may predict patients’ outcomes with regard to the occurrence of distant metastases. Methods: Our single-center experience includes all the patients with a histological diagnosis of CCS and available radiological and clinical data: 14 patients (8M, 6F, mean age 39.4 years old) were included. The available pre-treatment MRI or contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CECT) studies were examined using an analytical grid that incorporated characteristics from the most recent STS research. The occurrence of metastatic disease was matched with radiological features from baseline imaging studies. Results: MRI was available in 13 patients and CECT in 1 patient. The mean longest diameter (LD) was 50.5 mm ± 29.2. In 10 cases (71.4%), the tumor was deeply seated. MRI revealed a slightly high signal intensity (SI) on T1-WI and a high SI on T2-WI in every subject. At baseline, metastases were already present in 5/14 (35.7%) patients, 3 more developed metastases during the following 5 years (8/14, 57.1%), and 2 additional developed late-onset metastasis after more than 5 years from the diagnosis (total of 10/14 metastatic patients 71.4%). LD and metastasis at diagnosis were significantly correlated (Pearson correlation = 72%, p-value = 0.004). A pre-treatment LD > 4 cm was significantly associated with the development of distant metastases within 5 years from diagnosis and in subsequent follow-up (p = 0.0003). LD > 4 cm represents an increase in risk of metastatic disease within 5 years and during the course of follow-up (OR = 195.00, 95%CI: 3.36–11285.55, p = 0.01). The presence of MRI signs of macroscopic necrosis represented an increase in risk of metastatic disease within 5 years (OR = 15.00, 95%CI: 1.03–218.31—p = 0.04). Conclusions: The identification of MRI features of aggressive biology is a key element for an early referral to sarcoma centers. In our study, a LD > 4 cm and the presence of MRI signs of macroscopic necrosis at the baseline images resulted in being a predictor of metastatic disease. Full article

This paper presents the development and analysis of a bridge bearing database consistent with the 2020 Italian Guidelines (LG2020), currently enforced by the Italian law for risk classification and management of existing bridges. The database was developed by putting together the contribution of 24 research teams from 18 Italian universities in the framework of a research project foreseen by the agreement between the High Council of Public Works (CSLP, part of the Italian Ministry of Transportation) and the research consortium ReLUIS (Network of Italian Earthquake and Structural Engineering University Laboratories). This research project aimed to apply LG2020 to a set of about 600 bridges distributed across the Italian country, in order to find possible issues and propose modifications and integrations. The database includes almost 12,000 bearing defect forms related to a portfolio of 255 existing bridges located across the entire country. This paper reports a preliminary analysis of the dataset to provide an overview of the bearings installed in a significant bridge portfolio, referring to major highways and state roads. After a brief state of the art about the main bearing types installed on the bridges, along with inspection procedures, the paper describes the database structure, showing preliminary analyses related to bearing types and defects. The results show the prevalence of elastomeric pads, representing more than 55% of the inspected bearings. The remaining bearings are pot, low-friction with steel–Teflon surfaces and older-type steel devices. Lastly, the study provides information about typical defects for each type of bearing, while also underscoring some issues related to the current version of the LG2020 bearing inspection form. The synthesis of CaKFe4As4 superconducting compounds either requires the adoption of high-temperature synthesis or implies the intimate mixing of the precursors via mechanochemical routes before the thermal step in order to avoid chemical inhomogeneities that lead to thermodynamically stable unwanted phases. High Energy Ball Milling (HEBM) represents a useful tool to ensure the comminution of the elements and their dispersion to obtain the target phase. The adoption of mechanochemical treatments is, however, known to lead to the formation of aggregates of small crystals, leading to a powder morphology not optimal for practical applications. In this work, we report our findings in the synthesis of CaKFe4As4 polycrystalline compounds showing the effect of milling energy on the morphology and phase composition of the powders. To overcome the limits of conventional synthesis, we report the results of a novel synthesis approach for CaKFe4As4 materials, highlighting how the choice of the proper precursors and the adoption of milder treatments can represent the key to optimizing the powder morphology. Antisocial Personality Disorder (ASPD) is a complex and often debilitating condition that can emerge from early behavioral disturbances in childhood and adolescence. This narrative review provides a comprehensive overview of the current understanding of ASPD in pediatric and adolescent populations, examining key diagnostic challenges, developmental trajectories, and emerging treatment approaches. Recent research underscores the critical role of the early identification of conduct disorder (CD) and oppositional defiant disorder (ODD) as precursors to ASPD. Specific attention is given to biological, environmental, and psychosocial risk factors, including genetic predispositions, family dynamics, and socio-economic adversity. Additionally, neuro-psychological research highlights deficits in executive function, emotion regulation, and social cognition, which may underline the persistent antisocial patterns. Neuroimaging studies suggest atypical neural activity in regions associated with empathy, reward processing, and impulse control. Effective intervention remains a challenge, as treatment options are limited and often complicated by co-occurring conditions, such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and mood disorders. Promising evidence supports the efficacy of integrative, multimodal approaches combining behavioral therapy, family interventions, and pharmacotherapy to reduce symptom severity and improve long-term outcomes. The review concludes by advocating for a public health approach that emphasizes prevention and early intervention, aiming to mitigate the progression to full ASPD in adulthood. Full article

A class of hybrid molecularly imprinted polymeric nanoparticles (nanoMIPs) comprising the in situ formation of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) immobilised in a molecularly imprinted D-gluconate polymer has been designed with the objective of attempting the electrochemical quantification of gluconic acid (GA) in a wine setting. The imprinted polymers were synthesised in the presence of AuNP precursors in a pre-polymerisation mixture, which were confined to one another during the polymerisation of the chains. This allowed the formation of hybrid electroactive responsive imprinted nanoparticles (hybrid AuNPs@GA-nanoMIP), which exhibited enhanced electron conductivity. The morphological characterisation of the produced nanoMIPs revealed a fully decorated Au spherical surface of 200 nm in diameter. This resulted in a large active surface area distribution, as well a pronounced electrochemical peak response at the commercial screen-printed platinum electrode (SPPtE), accompanied by enhanced electron kinetics. The AuNPs@GA-nanoMIP sensor demonstrated the ability to detect a broad range of GA concentrations (0.025–5 mg/mL) with exceptional selectivity and reproducibility. The calibration curves were fitted with different isotherm models, such as the Langmuir, Freundlich and Langmuir–Freundlich functions. Moreover, the efficacy of the detection method was demonstrated by the recovery rates observed in real samples of Italian red wine. This research contributes to the development of a robust and reliable electrochemical sensor for the on-site determination of gluconic acid in food analysis. Full article

This work presents a comparison of different commercial tapes belonging to the second-generation High-Temperature Superconductors (2G HTS) produced by SuNAM Co., Ltd., SuperOx, and Shanghai Superconductors Technology Co., Ltd. (SST) companies. The aim is to investigate pinning mechanisms responsible for best performances, looking at the anisotropy of the irreversibility field and of the flux pinning energy. The irreversibility line states the upper limit of current-carrying capacity, whereas the flux pinning energy explores the ability of material defects to act as weak collectively or strong single vortex pinning centers. All investigated samples have artificial pinning centers (APCs) included in the superconducting matrix: BHO-doped EuBCO for SST, Y2O3 in YBCO for SuperOx, and Gd2O3 particles trapped in GdBCO for SuNAM. Resistive transition curves were measured in high magnetic fields up to 16 T for magnetic field orientations parallel and perpendicular to the tape surface. We found that the anistropy of SST tape shows an overall independence both on temperature and magnetic field, while the other two samples show a more complex behavior. This leads to the conclusion that properly engineered APC optimization in coated conductors can further reduce anisotropy of superconducting properties. Full article

There are many existing buildings for which seismic rehabilitation interventions are required, especially in earthquake-prone areas like Italy. At the same time, the huge energy cost increase in Europe highlights the need for sustainable techniques that are able to increase the energy efficiency of buildings. These issues are even more significant for weak social groups living in social housing buildings, often in poor and vulnerable conditions. In order to address the solution regarding building renovations from the social, structural, and energy efficiency perspectives, in the framework of the Horizon Europe REHOUSE (Renovation packagEs for HOlistic improvement of EU’s bUildingS Efficiency, maximizing RES generation and cost-effectiveness) Project, this paper proposes an integrated methodology of building assessment that was tested on a social housing building in Margherita di Savoia, a small town of Apulia Region, Italy. In addition to the structural and energy aspects, the social one is particularly important since the building is located in the “Capitanata Area”, considered to be one of the most socially vulnerable areas in Italy. For this reason, an assessment methodology must consider reducing the overall impact of the assessment activities while explaining to tenants the purpose of the assessment and future renovation actions, maintaining the accuracy of the assessment results. Therefore, this study outlines an assessment methodology, demonstrated through its application to the case study building, that integrates the structural, energy, and social aspects, showing that the tenants’ involvement is also crucial for the technical evaluations. The final result is a low-impact approach for the building knowledge gathering needed to start a deep renovation intervention in social housing. Full article

Against the backdrop of climate change, soil loss, and water scarcity, sustainable food production is a pivotal challenge for humanity. As the global population grows and urbanization intensifies, innovative agricultural methods are crucial to meet rising food demand, while mitigating environmental degradation. Hydroponic and aquaponic systems, has emerged as one of these solutions by minimizing land use, reducing water consumption, and enabling year-round crop production in urban areas. This study aimed at assessing the yield, ecophysiological performance, and nutritional content of Lactuca sativa L. and Cichorium endivia L. var. crispum grown in hydroponic and aquaponic floating raft systems, with Oreochromis niloticus L. integrated into the aquaponic system. Both species exhibited higher fresh biomass and canopy/root ratios in hydroponics compared to aquaponics. Additionally, hydroponics increased the leaf number in curly endive by 18%. Ecophysiological parameters, such as the leaf net photosynthesis rate, actual yield of PSII, and linear electron transport rate, were also higher in hydroponics for both species. However, the nutritional profiles varied between the two cultivation systems and between the two species. Given that standard fish feed often lacks sufficient potassium levels for optimal plant growth, potassium supplementation could be a viable strategy to enhance plant development in aquaponic systems. In conclusion, although aquaponic systems may demonstrate lower productivity compared to hydroponics, they offer a more sustainable and potentially healthier product with fewer harmful compounds due to the reduced use of synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, and the absence of chemical residue accumulation. However, careful system management and monitoring are crucial to minimize potential contaminants. Full article

Background: Nowadays, Thoracic Surgery is technologically advanced; therefore, it also focuses its attention on nursing care. The aim of the study is to evaluate the effect of the assessment of a dedicated team of nurses (DTN) in all onco-hematological patients undergoing VATS lobectomy for lung cancer on the outcome of the patient, preventing pressure injuries, reducing perioperative stress, duration of operations, complications, and hospital stay times. Methods: We performed a single-center observational retrospective study, including 31 DTN and 760 onco-hematological patients who underwent thoracic surgery between 30 October 2018 and 30 June 2023 at “Vanvitelli” University of Naples. Results: DTN ensures good nursing care before, during, and after surgery. Operative time was reduced by approximately 20 min, decreasing hospital infections in the DNT period and reducing intraoperative complications such as bleeding and hospital costs (p < 0.05). Conclusions: Thoracic surgery nurses require more specialized training to adapt to the development of sophisticated. Full article

Recent advances in high-temperature superconductors (HTS) have made them extremely attractive for low-temperature, high-magnetic-field-power applications such as in fusion technology, where the advantages over traditional low-temperature superconductors (LTS) allow for the design of fusion reactors operating in different and more convenient regimes. However, the performance enhancement exhibited by novel conductors poses several challenges for the measurement of their superconducting properties. The high critical currents coupled with the relatively low thermal stability of the conductors and their mechanical fragility render this task a challenge, as the angular anisotropies complicate the experimental setup. In this work, we describe the development of our novel high-current measurement facility, focusing on the solutions introduced regarding critical aspects such as the superconducting leads and the sample holder design. We show how simple but effectively designed solutions can be adopted to combat the complexity of the measurement. The results reported in this work guide the development of a measurement system able to withstand high critical currents (I > 1500 A) at high magnetic fields (µ0H > 12 T) by evaluating the angular response of 4 mm wide short samples (L ~ 7.5 cm) in a robust and reproducible manner. Background/Objectives: Although depression and anxiety are found to be affected by temperaments, little research has studied these relationships in pregnancy. The present study explored the associations among perinatal depression (PD), anxiety dimensions (state, trait, and generalized anxiety disorder (GAD)), and temperaments between women in the three trimesters of pregnancy through a network analysis approach. Moreover, differences in the severity of PD and anxiety between women in the three trimesters were evaluated. Methods: Women in first (N = 31), second (N = 184), and third (N = 54) trimesters of pregnancy were recruited in the present cross-sectional study. The network analysis included PD, anxiety dimensions, and temperaments. Three network models were estimated, and ANOVAs evaluated the differences in the severity of PD and anxiety, including trimesters as a between-subject factor. Results: PD and GAD were the nodes most strongly connected across the three groups. Cyclothymic, depressive, and anxious temperaments were most frequently associated with PD and GAD. Hyperthymic temperament was in the periphery of the three networks. Lastly, women in the first trimester had the highest severity of PD and GAD. Conclusions: PD and GAD showed the strongest associations. Anxiety dimensions had positive associations with PD and GAD, suggesting their role as possible risk factors. Temperaments were differently associated within the network between the three groups. Clinical interventions during pregnancy should target the central variables, considering their direct and indirect relationships. Full article

High levels of serum uric acid (SUA) and triglycerides (TG) might promote high-cardiovascular-risk phenotypes, including subclinical atherosclerosis. An interaction between plaques xanthine oxidase (XO) expression, SUA, and HDL-C has been recently postulated. Subjects from the URic acid Right for heArt Health (URRAH) study with carotid ultrasound and without previous cardiovascular diseases (CVD) (n = 6209), followed over 20 years, were included in the analysis. Hypertriglyceridemia (hTG) was defined as TG ≥ 150 mg/dL. Higher levels of SUA (hSUA) were defined as ≥5.6 mg/dL in men and 5.1 mg/dL in women. A carotid plaque was identified in 1742 subjects (28%). SUA and TG predicted carotid plaque (HR 1.09 [1.04–1.27], p < 0.001 and HR 1.25 [1.09–1.45], p < 0.001) in the whole population, independently of age, sex, diabetes, systolic blood pressure, HDL and LDL cholesterol and treatment. Four different groups were identified (normal SUA and TG, hSUA and normal TG, normal SUA and hTG, hSUA and hTG). The prevalence of plaque was progressively greater in subjects with normal SUA and TG (23%), hSUA and normal TG (31%), normal SUA and hTG (34%), and hSUA and hTG (38%) (Chi-square, 0.0001). Logistic regression analysis showed that hSUA and normal TG [HR 1.159 (1.002 to 1.341); p = 0.001], normal SUA and hTG [HR 1.305 (1.057 to 1.611); p = 0.001], and the combination of hUA and hTG [HR 1.539 (1.274 to 1.859); p = 0.001] were associated with a higher risk of plaque. Our findings demonstrate that SUA is independently associated with the presence of carotid plaque and suggest that the combination of hyperuricemia and hypertriglyceridemia is a stronger determinant of carotid plaque than hSUA or hTG taken as single risk factors. The association between SUA and CVD events may be explained in part by a direct association of UA with carotid plaques. Full article
