Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
According to a statement released by UNO, by 2025, two-thirds of the world’s population is likely to live in countries with moderate or severe water shortages. Given the importance of water for sustaining life, it is imperative that this commodity not be depleted either through contamination or careless use. Water pollution causes approximately 14,000 deaths per day, mostly due to contamination of drinking water by untreated sewage in developing countries. As estimated by the World Health Organization, 10% of the world’s population has consumed poor drinking water. Water from polluted sources for drinking and domestic purposes is a potent agent of diseases such as cholera, typhoid and tuberculosis. Water pollution is generally induced by human activities, including sewage leakages, pollution of ground water through drilling, industrial waste dumping, pesticide and herbicide consumption, etc. Hence, many approaches to water pollution control and management have been adopted through prevention, changes in water use, regulation and monitoring and engaging in control measures. Together with the development of industrialization and urbanization, securing safe and sustainable drinking water supplies is a prominent challenge for governments and the science community, particularly in a time when climate change and public health problems have become prominent. Ensuring drinking water systems’ safety, security and sustainability to meet current and future needs presents a challenging and exciting field of study.
This Special Issue of Water focuses on drinking water quality and water pollution management. New research papers, reviews, case reports and conference papers are welcome, especially those combining a high academic standard with findings on the sources, effects, control and management of drinking water pollution.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Water is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
