Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Autonomous vehicles are revolutionizing the global transportation industry, with steering and chassis control systems serving as the core dynamic execution unit that directly determines the vehicle's motion accuracy, driving safety and handling stability. Against the backdrop of the deep integration of automotive electrification and intelligence, the steering and chassis system of autonomous vehicles is facing unprecedented challenges: it needs to achieve high-precision torque and position tracking under complex road conditions; realize real-time coordinated control among multiple subsystems, including steering, braking, suspension and traction; and adapt to the dynamic changes in vehicle speed, load and decision-making instructions. Meanwhile, the development of advanced control algorithms, artificial intelligence and robust disturbance rejection technologies provides new solutions for optimizing the performance of steering and chassis control systems, making this research field a core direction of academic research and industrial application with important practical and strategic significance.
This Special Issue aims to present and disseminate the most recent advances in advanced steering and chassis control technologies for autonomous vehicles, focusing on the innovative design, performance optimization, experimental verification and engineering application of control systems. We welcome high-quality original research papers and review articles that address the key scientific and engineering problems in the field of autonomous vehicle steering and chassis control. Topics of interest for publication include, but are not limited to, the following:
- High-precision steering torque/angle control algorithms for autonomous vehicles under complex working conditions;
- Coordinated control strategies of steering, braking, suspension and traction systems in autonomous vehicle chassis;
- Adaptive and robust control of autonomous vehicle steering and chassis dynamics for parameter variation and external disturbance;
- AI and machine learning-based optimization of steering and chassis control for autonomous vehicles;
- Hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing and field validation of advanced steering-chassis control technologies;
- Energy-efficient steering and chassis control design for electric and hybrid autonomous vehicles;
- Fault-tolerant control and fault diagnosis of steering and chassis systems to improve autonomous vehicle safety;
- Steering feel shaping and human–machine co-driving coordinated control for autonomous vehicle chassis;
- Control of steer-by-wire systems for high-level autonomous vehicles;
- Multi-objective optimization of steering and chassis control for autonomous vehicles (safety, comfort, energy efficiency)

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Vehicles is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 1800 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
