Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Use of energy is a major driver of human development and has consequences for people at all levels of society. Energy use includes both energy supply and energy consumption at various scales and in different sectors, i.e., for communities, industries, or in regional or national contexts. However, sources of energy for essential use are often scarce due to many constraints, especially in developing countries. In addition, a range of challenges are linked with energy use if not implemented sustainably. Sustainable energy supply and consumption are directly linked to the UN Sustainable Development Goal, SDG 7: Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all, and associated with several other SDGs, as well as being key factors in addressing the global climate change challenge.

This aim of this Special Issue is to foster discussion on pathways to sustainable energy use for all levels of society and how its promotion can contribute to meeting the global energy and climate change challenges. Results from case studies, comparative studies, and research encompassing both sustainable energy supply and sustainable energy consumption are welcome. The focus of this Special Issue will include:

  • Case studies on sustainable energy use;
  • Comparative studies of sustainable energy use;
  • Sustainable energy use in developing countries;
  • Linking sustainable energy use with addressing climate change challenges (at any scale);
  • Sustainable energy use—strategies, policies and programs;
  • Carbon management and sustainable energy use.
