Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Sustainability analytics is gaining traction among responsible organisations. Organisations are increasingly making efforts to become more responsible, due to a combination of intrinsic (e.g., their own values) and extrinsic motivations (e.g., regulations, consumer pressure). As a result, they are enacting continuous improvement cycles through which they improve their performance on ethical, social and environmental topics. At the centre of this cycle typically lies sustainability analytics, since its results inform the decision-making processes in this domain. Sustainability here refers to maximising the positive impacts and minimising the negative ones related to environmental issues, (e.g., energy consumption, GHG emissions, waste management), social concerns (e.g., social inclusion, gender equity) and business ethics and governance (transparent management, workplace democracy). Analytics refers to a broad set of methods and computational tools that enable the systematic analysis of data. Given the fact that the field of sustainability analytics, while building upon solid foundations of existing disciplines, is fairly young, there is a need for studies that formulate its theories and demonstrate its application in practice. This Special Issue welcomes conceptual papers and empirical research, covering theories, method, tools and experiences on: ethical, social and environmental accounting; sustainability indicators for organisations; sustainability, non-financial and integrated reporting; analysis of corporate sustainability; data-intensive approaches to impact measurement, impact assessment or life-cycle assessment; sustainability-related operations research; policy-making in relation to sustainability analytics; organisational networks and ecosystems built upon sustainability analytics platforms. Other related topics are also welcome. We are interested in why organisations perform sustainability analytics, how they apply it and use the results, and what they actually analyse. The papers in this Special Issue will expand the knowledge base on sustainability analytics applied to responsible organisations and identify avenues for future research. Together we can contribute to shaping a more responsible economy.
