Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

With the rapid acceleration of global urbanization and the aging of infrastructure, structural health monitoring (SHM) for civil engineering structures has become a critical component in ensuring public safety and promoting sustainable development.

SHM technology enables the real-time monitoring and performance evaluation of civil engineering structures, effectively preventing disasters, extending service life, and reducing maintenance costs. However, in practical applications, traditional SHM systems face challenges such as high energy consumption, complex data processing, and limited economic viability. As a result, the integration of sustainability concepts into structural health monitoring has emerged as a key area of research and an inevitable trend for future development.

This Special Issue seeks to gather the latest research on sustainable SHM for civil engineering structures, focusing on how technological innovation and system optimization can lead to more efficient, environmentally friendly, and cost-effective SHM solutions. We invite researchers to submit original research papers, review articles, and case studies that contribute to advancing the cutting-edge developments in this field.

This Special Issue invites contributions that address both the challenges and opportunities in sustainable SHM. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. Sustainable sensing technologies;
  2. Data-driven sustainability design;
  3. Life cycle management and assessment of civil structures;
  4. AI-driven structural health monitoring;
  5. Structural damage assessment;
  6. Case studies and practical applications.

Benefits of Publishing in this Special Issue:

  • High visibility and impact within the sustainability and civil engineering communities.
  • Opportunity to contribute to the growing body of knowledge on sustainable SHM.
  • Rigorous peer-review process ensuring the quality and relevance of published research.
  • Open access publication, allowing for widespread dissemination of your work.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Sustainability is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
