Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The rapid advancement of artificial intelligence and digital technologies poses ethical challenges of unprecedented scope and complexity. This Special Issue of Social Sciences aims to explore the ethical dimension at the intersection of technology, AI, and society—a vast, multifaceted, and dynamic space that requires a complementary and interdisciplinary approach.
While academia is structured into disciplines and universities into schools, society faces problems and challenges that transcend such boundaries. For this reason, in a journal committed to interdisciplinary dialogue, we invite contributions that identify both the most pressing challenges and formidable risks, as well as the most promising opportunities emerging from the ongoing digital transformation process.
We are particularly interested in fostering critical reflection on the role ethics should play in shaping, developing, and implementing technologies that directly affect human lives. How can we ensure that algorithmic systems respect human dignity? What risks arise from the automation of decision-making? What normative frameworks and values should guide the design and use of these technologies? How to achieve an ethical and responsible AI governance? Can AI contribute to human flourishing and a flourishing society?
We encourage researchers and scholars to address these questions constructively and with a strong grounding in their respective fields of expertise. The overarching goal of this issue is to contribute to a vision of technology that places people and human dignity at the centre and directs societal innovation toward the pursuit of the common good at the heart of their analysis and that reflects a constructive, well-grounded engagement with the ethical questions posed by emerging technologies.
