Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

In 2019, air pollution caused more than 5 million deaths around the world. There is increasing evidence on the health effects of air pollution, especially pollutants and sources that have received relatively little scientific and policy attention. Examples of such pollutants include carcinogenic volatile compounds and ultrafine particles, and examples of sources include restaurant emissions and trash burning. On 22nd September, 2021, the World Health Organization announced their new guideline for annual average PM2.5 concentration as 5 µg/m3. Very few cities around the world are in attainment with respect to this new guideline, and as a result, a tremendous amount of scientific and policy effort is needed, include a radical change in the way we have thought of air pollutants, their sources, and their exposure. We thus call for manuscripts that contribute to the advancement and transformation of the societal understanding of novel air pollutants, their influence on urban air quality, health, and the policy that addresses their mitigation.

Contributions have to follow one of the three categories of papers (article, conceptual paper or review) for the journal and address the topic of the special issue.
