Clinical Cases in Stroke: From Diagnosis and Acute Management to Rehabilitation and Recovery

Stroke is a leading cause of death and long-term disability worldwide and remains a major challenge for healthcare systems. Advances in diagnostic techniques, neuroimaging, acute interventions, surgical and endovascular procedures, and rehabilitation have substantially improved stroke care. Nevertheless, stroke presents with considerable clinical heterogeneity, and challenging or atypical cases continue to raise important diagnostic and therapeutic questions. Real-world clinical cases and case series can provide valuable insights into uncommon presentations, complex clinical decision-making, treatment-related complications, and patient outcomes that may complement evidence obtained from large clinical trials.

This Special Issue, “Clinical Cases in Stroke: From Diagnosis and Acute Management to Rehabilitation and Recovery,” aims to present and disseminate clinically relevant and educational cases that reflect contemporary approaches to stroke diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, and long-term recovery. We welcome contributions addressing both ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke, with particular interest in challenging clinical presentations, innovative diagnostic and therapeutic approaches, multidisciplinary management, and emerging technologies. The Special Issue also seeks to highlight recent developments that may improve patient outcomes across the continuum of stroke care, from initial diagnosis and acute management to rehabilitation and secondary prevention.

The primary target audience of this Special Issue includes neurologists, neurosurgeons, neuroradiologists, interventional neuroradiologists, emergency medicine physicians, rehabilitation specialists, stroke nurses, and other healthcare professionals involved in stroke care, as well as clinical and translational researchers working in neurology, neuroscience, neuroimaging, cerebrovascular medicine, rehabilitation, biomedical engineering, artificial intelligence, and related fields. Contributions that facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration and translate emerging scientific advances into clinically relevant applications are particularly encouraged.

Topics of interest for publication include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Challenging, atypical, and rare presentations of ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke;
• Advances in neuroimaging and diagnostic approaches in stroke;
• Acute stroke management, including thrombolysis and mechanical thrombectomy;
• Surgical and endovascular management of cerebrovascular diseases;
• Stroke complications and treatment-related complications;
• Secondary prevention and long-term management after stroke;
• Prognostic factors and outcome prediction in stroke;
• Artificial intelligence, machine learning, and digital technologies in stroke diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis;
• Emerging and innovative therapeutic approaches in stroke care;
• Neurorehabilitation, functional recovery, and multidisciplinary stroke management;
• Rare cerebrovascular disorders and clinically informative case series;
• Clinical cases providing novel insights into diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, or recovery.

We invite Case Reports, Case Series, Reviews, and other clinically relevant contributions that are consistent with the aims and scope of the journal. This Special Issue aims to provide a platform for sharing valuable clinical experiences, emerging concepts, and recent advances that may contribute to improved patient care and a better understanding of stroke across the entire clinical continuum.
