Cardiovascular Disease and Sleep Disordered Breathing—Case Report
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) and sleep-disordered breathing (SDB), particularly obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), share a complex bidirectional relationship that significantly impacts patient outcomes. Emerging evidence highlights how SDB exacerbates CVD progression through mechanisms such as hypoxia-induced sympathetic activation, endothelial dysfunction, and systemic inflammation, while CVD itself can worsen SDB severity. This Topical Collection will collate case reports and clinical studies that elucidate these interactions, offering insights into diagnosis, pathophysiology, and innovative management strategies.
Recent guidelines emphasize the importance of screening for OSA in high-risk CVD populations, such as those with atrial fibrillation or heart failure, underscoring the clinical relevance of this intersection. Case reports detailing unique presentations, such as cardiovascular complications linked to untreated OSA or therapeutic interventions improving both conditions, are particularly encouraged. Submissions may explore topics such as the role of CPAP therapy in reducing CVD mortality, pediatric cases of SDB contributing to early-onset hypertension, or atypical manifestations of CVD in patients with sleep disorders.
This Topical Collection will also address disparities in sleep health and CVD outcomes across diverse populations, including gender- and ethnicity-specific risk profiles. By integrating multidisciplinary perspectives, we aim to advance risk stratification and personalized treatment approaches.
Submissions should provide actionable clinical insights and contribute to bridging gaps in current evidence. We welcome global contributions to foster a comprehensive understanding of this critical health nexus.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Reports is an international peer-reviewed open access quarterly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 1400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
