Dear Colleagues,
Ocean waves and marine dynamics play a crucial role in the Earth's climate system, air–sea interactions, and the evolution of marine environments. Accurate observation and monitoring of ocean waves, surface currents, and related dynamic processes help to deepen our understanding of ocean circulation characteristics, enhance weather and climate forecasting, and support the safety of maritime activities as well as the mitigation of coastal disaster risks. In this context, satellite remote sensing, with its advantages of wide coverage and strong capability for repeated observation, has become one of the primary means for acquiring ocean dynamic information. Currently, various satellite payloads, such as Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR), radar altimeters, scatterometers, Global Navigation Satellite System Reflectometers (GNSS-Rs), and optical sensors, have made significant progress in the observation of ocean waves and the monitoring of ocean dynamic processes. In recent years, with continuous improvements in sensor performance, ongoing refinements in data processing methods, and the steady accumulation of multi-source data, the capabilities of satellite remote sensing in ocean wave and ocean dynamics research have been further enhanced. These advancements have made it possible to investigate wave–wind interaction, wave–current coupling, extreme wave events, and coastal dynamic processes at both regional and global scales, and have provided new opportunities for in-depth analysis of these processes.
This Special Issue aims to compile the latest achievements in satellite remote sensing technology for the observation of ocean waves and ocean dynamic processes. It focuses on innovations in observation methods, improvements in inversion algorithms, new applications of satellite data in monitoring ocean surface dynamic processes, and integrated research on remote sensing observations with ocean numerical models and field observations, with the aim of further deepening our understanding of ocean dynamic processes and their environmental effects.
