Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
I am happy to announce that the journal Religions has reached out to me to serve as a Guest Editor for an upcoming issue. I was delighted by the invitation and I proposed the general subjects of theology, inclusion, and participation. A number of us have already contributed to the discussions in our fields on the subject of inclusion (or the lack thereof) in our communities. Many have also considered environmental barriers as well as concern for people in harms’ way. Many of us are aware of the challenges that members of our communites experience in times of catastrophe, and like the United Nations has taught, no one is to be left behind when the walls are breached. Each of us has a stake in raising the call to care for each other, especially as people of faith, and for the Earth, our common home.
I am pleased to invite you to submit a proposal to the collection of essays “Theology and Disability: Inclusion in Religious Communities” to be published in a Special Issue in the journal Religions.
AIMS, SUBJECT AREAS, and SUMMARY
The aim of the Special Issue is to engage the focus on disability as it relates to the scope of the journal Religions. In particular, this issue meets the aims of Religions in its consideration of religious thought and practice, hermeneutics, constructive practices, theology, religious ethics, and religion and health. The subject areas to be engaged include theology, religious ethics, the role of religion in culture and society, theoretical and/or practical considerations, and religion and health through the lens of theologically informed disability studies. In particular, this Special Issue aims to engage with the experiences of people with disability and their engagement with natural non-human environments and concern for the sustainability of the planet. Original research articles and reviews are welcome.
Research areas may include (but are not limited to) the following suggested themes:
- Research area A: Welcome and Sustainability
- Research area B: Inclusion and Participation
- Research area C: Engaging Natural Environments
- Research area D: Thinking Together
- Research area E: Moving Forward
We request that, prior to submitting a manuscript, interested authors initially submit a proposed title and an abstract of 200–300 words summarizing their intended contribution. Please send it to the Guest Editor, or to the Assistant Editor of Religions. Abstracts will be reviewed by the Guest Editor for the purposes of ensuring proper fit within the scope of the Special Issue. Full manuscripts will undergo double-blind peer review.
We look forward to receiving your contributions.
