Dear Colleagues,
This will be an interdisciplinary issue exploring the enduring significance of the work of the Early Church Fathers in Christian thought, an area of increasing significance today for various disciplines, including theology, history, philosophy, ecumenism, sociology, and the sociology and psychology of religion. The Church Fathers played a significant role in shaping the Christian faith during the first few centuries after Christ, and their theological writings, spiritual insights, and apologetic methods have had a profound and lasting impact on subsequent generations of believers. However, over time, challenges and objections have been raised to the enduring relevance and applicability of the Fathers for contemporary Christianity. This Special Issue aims to provide a platform for advancing the conversation as to how the thought of the Greek and Latin Fathers remains continually relevant today. By examining their works, perspectives, and historical context, this Special Issue will provide a comprehensive assessment of the Church Fathers’ impact and invite critical reflections on their significance in shaping Christian beliefs and practices. We are pleased to invite you to submit proposals for articles in this area and in other related areas. In this Special Issue, original research articles and reviews are welcome. Research areas may include (but are not limited to) the following:
- Virtue ethics;
- Social ethics;
- Pastoral theology;
- Liturgy and rituals;
- Sexuality;
- Asceticism and monasticism;
- Soteriology;
- Scripture and biblical exegesis;
- Philosophical or dogmatic theology;
- Mystical or spiritual theology.
We request that, prior to submitting a manuscript, interested authors initially submit a proposed title and an abstract of 150–200 words summarizing their intended contribution. Please send it to the Guest Editor, Dr. Jamie Blosser ([email protected]), and CC the Assistant Editor, Ms. Violet Li ([email protected]). Abstracts will be reviewed by the Guest Editor for the purposes of ensuring their proper fit within the scope of the Special Issue. Full manuscripts will undergo double-blind peer review.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a double-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Religions is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 1800 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
