Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The teaching of the Hebrew Bible and research into it and related topics takes place in various institutional settings. These include diverse types of institutions such as public universities and private universities, some of which are religiously affiliated and in those devoted to the training of clergy, or seminaries affiliated with various religious groups. Scholars working on the Hebrew Bible hold appointments in different academic units including departments of Religious Studies, Ancient Near Eastern Studies, History, Jewish Studies, Theology, and others.

Papers for this Special Issue should address the issues of whether and how the different institutional settings impact the nature of your instruction or research. As this is a Special Issue of Religions, papers that speak to how the discipline and approach of Religious Studies may shape your work are particularly welcome. A second important consideration is to explore the relationship between theological and non-theological approaches to the study of Hebrew Bible and how you position yourself on this matter.

The collection of essays, thus, should offer a fresh conversation about the field of “biblical studies.”

We request that, prior to submitting a manuscript, interested authors initially submit a proposed title and an abstract of 400–600 words summarizing their intended contribution. Please send it to the guest editors Joel Gereboff <[email protected]> or to Section Managing Editor Melody Shi [email protected]. Abstracts will be reviewed by the guest editor to ensure a proper fit within the scope of the Special Issue. Full manuscripts will undergo double-blind peer-review.
