Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Exposure to ionizing radiation triggers complex cascades of molecular events that mediate the cellular response to radiation exposure. Advanced proteomic approaches provide powerful tools to define the cellular pathways and networks adversely affected following irradiation. This fact has been clearly demonstrated not just in the context of basic mechanistic radiation biology but also to predict future adverse outcomes of exposures, including radiation-induced neurocognitive impairments before they manifest. Proteomic analyses have also been proven to provide essential information in clinical scenarios, allowing for a better understanding of normal tissue injury and tumorigenic responses to radiation therapy and to predict treatment outcomes. Innovative proteomic approaches will lead to a better understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying this wide range of radiation responses and their functional consequences. 

For this Special Issue “Proteomics in Radiation Research”, we invite authors to contribute original research articles, methods papers, as well as review articles highlighting the cutting-edge developments in the fields of radiation proteomics. 

  • Biodosimetry for the detection of exposures and to distinguish radiation quality and dose;
  • Clinical proteomics to characterize the normal tissue and tumor response to radiotherapies;
  • Predictive biomarkers of subsequent radiation-induced pathologies;
  • Proteomic profiling in parallel with other -omics technologies to define the radiation response;
  • New advances in proteomics to define tissue-specific responses from circulating biomarkers.

Proteomes is an international peer-reviewed open access quarterly journal published by MDPI.
