Biophysics and Life Physics

A section of Physics (ISSN 2624-8174).

Section Information

This Section aims to broaden the scope of Physics by embracing research at the interface between physics and life sciences. It welcomes studies that apply physical principles, methodologies, and techniques to investigate biological systems and fundamental life processes through experimental, computational, and theoretical approaches. Emphasis is placed on understanding the physical mechanisms underlying biological function and dysfunction, as well as on developing innovative tools and methodologies with potential applications in medicine, biotechnology, and diagnostics. Owing to the complexity of these challenges, the Section is highly interdisciplinary, fostering interactions among physicists, biophysicists, chemists, engineers, and biomedical scientists to elucidate the physics of the processes.

➢ Biophysics: Application of physical concepts and quantitative methodologies to investigate the structure, dynamics, interactions, and functions of biological molecules, cells, and complex living systems.

➢ Physics of Life: Fundamental studies aimed at understanding the physical principles governing living matter, self-organization, adaptation, information processing, and emergent phenomena in biological systems across different spatial and temporal scales.

➢ Chemical Physics: Investigation of the physical mechanisms underlying chemical and biochemical processes, including molecular recognition, reaction dynamics, intermolecular interactions, and spectroscopic characterization of biological and soft-matter systems.

➢ Medical Physics: Development and application of physical principles and technologies in medicine, encompassing diagnostic imaging, biosensing, radiation-based techniques, therapeutic approaches, and quantitative methods for healthcare and precision medicine.
