Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Pathological complications during the nine months of pregnancy could have detrimental effects, not only on fetal development and maternal wellbeing, but also on future infant and adult health. In recent years, significant advances have been made in understanding pregnancy physiopathology, however several conditions of the perinatal period still remain elusive. This Medical Sciences Special Issue will focus on the most recent research on pregnancy-related disorders and conditions (such as preeclampsia, fetal growth restriction, gestational diabetes, and obesity during pregnancy), on complications associated with in vitro fertilization, and on the key role that the human placenta plays in mediating several gestational diseases. Moreover, this issue will highlight novel investigations on the epigenetic mechanisms behind fetal programming in pathological conditions and the pathogenesis of pregnancy diseases, as well as the impacts of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-Cov-2) infection and coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) during gestation. Finally, the roles of stem cells and innovative therapeutic approaches to pregnancy-related disorders will be discussed.

For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Medical Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access quarterly journal published by MDPI.
