Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
This Special Issue focuses on the role of acupuncture in the care of patients who are at the end of life. We are particularly interested in studies that examine the effects of acupuncture on fatigue, anorexia, cachexia, constipation, delirium, and dyspnea. These are the most common physical symptoms (other than pain, nausea, and vomiting) during the terminal stages of an illness, such as cancer or acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). Unfortunately, the effects of acupuncture for treating these symptoms have not been well studied. We are also very interested in studies concerning: (1) the effects of acupuncture for treating psychological distress (such as anxiety and depression); and (2) how to improve quality of life and spiritual well-being among patients who are at the end of life. Surveys or qualitative studies concerning the use and acceptance of acupuncture in end of life and palliative care are also welcomed.
Manuscripts should deal with, but are not limited to, the keywords listed below.
- Acupuncture
- End of life care
- Palliative care
- Physical symptom management
- Psychological symptom management
- Quality of life
- Spiritual well-being
