Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues:

The side effects of conventional anticancer therapy are a huge burden for many oncologic patients. The adverse effects of chemotherapy, radiation, and/or surgical therapy often prevent the regular performance of conventional therapy, thereby leading to a reduction of the previously suggested amount of chemo- and or radiation therapy—or even to their cancellation. Additive complementary medicine (CM) might be suggested to improve the situation of these patients. There is literature on the influence of CM on side effects. In addition, CM may have a place in the improvement of cancer patients’ quality of life (QoL). Knowledge of the interaction of conventional medicine and CM is mandatory for all physicians dealing with cancer patients. The use of CM requires specialized training in order to apply it correctly. A high number of cancer patients use CM. This Issue focuses on the use of CM aiming at the alleviation of the side effects of conventional medicine.
