The COUPLED 80 WORKSHOP
The COUPLED 80 WORKSHOP, organized by the Instituto Politécnico do Porto, Instituto Superior de Engenharia do Porto (ISEP), and the Center for Research & Development in Mathematics and Applications (CIDMA), will take place in the beautiful city of Porto, Portugal, from October 9 to October 10, 2025, in a hybrid format. This conference is dedicated to the excellent mathematicians who will celebrate their 80th birthdays in 2025, namely Professor Mike Field (Houston University, USA), Professor Martin Golubitsky (Ohio State University, USA), Professor John Guckenheimer (Cornell University, USA), Professor Phil Holmes (Princeton University, USA), and Professor Ian Stewart (University of Warwick, UK).
It aims to bring together mathematicians and theoretical scientists from various fields to exchange ideas on the behavior of structured networks of interacting dynamical systems. It also serves as an introduction and overview of the theory and applications of coupled dynamical systems for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows interested in joining the workshop.
The workshop is designed to maximize the involvement of all participants and will showcase state-of-the-art research and the latest achievements.
Main topics include the following:
- Nonlinear dynamics and bifurcation theory;
- The role of symmetry in the formation of patterns in physical systems;
- The role of network architecture in the dynamics of coupled systems;
- Mathematical aspects of biological applications: animal gaits, the visual cortex, homeostasis, and coupled systems;
- Other topics not mentioned.
