Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

We find ourselves today in the most challenging time yet for protecting the planet and its inhabitants. We face an uncertain future and dangers we could not have imagined just half a century ago. Even throughout the years of substantial new environmental legislation, just a few decades ago, the problems were more straightforward and could be addressed with some effort. Now the problems require a combination of effort and hope or faith—the potential that we will try and still not do enough to make it through the challenges of climate disruption, biodiversity loss, and global energy needs. How does this uncertainty impact policy? Does it elevate the value of the precautionary principle, not yet utilized in all countries, or does it result in political roadblocks to sustainability?

This Special Issue seeks articles that focus on any law, policy, regulatory, or theoretical aspect of the 21st century challenges for environmental and natural resources policy. What might we do to improve our prospects, both domestically and internationally? How might we address such wicked problems without increasing human economic suffering? How do we weigh one potential for human suffering (lack of development) against another (climate refugees)? These and other related questions may be addressed through this call for papers.

Please feel free to forward this call for papers to anyone who might be interested in submitting a paper.
