Dear Colleagues,
Interventional pulmonology (IP) has evolved rapidly over the past two decades, evolving from a niche procedural discipline into a cornerstone of modern pulmonary and critical care practice. Advances in imaging, instrumentation, and procedural techniques have expanded the scope of IP to encompass complex airway management, minimally invasive lung cancer diagnosis and staging, therapeutic tumor ablation, pleural interventions, and bronchoscopic lung volume reduction. These innovations have enabled clinicians to offer safer, more precise, and increasingly personalized care to patients with both malignant and non-malignant thoracic diseases.
Concurrently, the field has witnessed a growing emphasis on multidisciplinary collaboration, evidence-based practice, and outcomes-driven research. Integration with thoracic oncology, critical care, radiology, and surgery has accelerated the adoption of novel technologies such as robotic bronchoscopy, advanced navigation platforms, endobronchial therapeutics, and real-time imaging modalities. As IP continues to mature, there is an increasing need to critically evaluate emerging data, standardize procedural approaches, and define best practices across diverse clinical settings.
This Special Issue brings together leading experts to highlight contemporary advances, ongoing procedural challenges, and future directions in interventional pulmonology. Through original research, state-of-the-art reviews, and expert perspectives, this collection aims to inform clinical practice, stimulate innovation, and guide the next generation of interventional pulmonologists.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Journal of Respiration is an international peer-reviewed open access quarterly journal published by MDPI.
