Lipid and Lipoprotein Metabolism in Cardiovascular Disease
This special issue belongs to the section “Acquired Cardiovascular Disease“.
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Dysregulation of lipid and lipoprotein metabolism is a principal factor in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis, myocardial infarction, and stroke. Elevated low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) reduced high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), and abnormalities in triglyceride-rich lipoproteins (TRLs) contribute to plaque formation and vascular dysfunction. Despite advances in lipid-lowering therapies, residual cardiovascular risk persists, which underscores the need for deeper mechanistic insights and novel therapeutic strategies.
In this Special Issue, we are pleased to invite you to submit both clinical and basic research articles, as well as up-to-date review articles studying the impact of lipid metabolism in different cardiovascular disorders. Research areas may include (but not limited to) the following:
- Classical and gender-dependent risk factors in cardiovascular and metabolic diseases;
- Novel trends in cardiovascular risk factors;
- Role of inflammatory processes in atherogenesis;
- Role of lipoprotein(a) in cardiovascular risk;
- Personalized medicine in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cardiovascular disease;
- Non-lipid effects of lipid-lowering therapies in cardiovascular disease.
We look forward to your valuable contributions to this Special Issue.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Journal of Cardiovascular Development and Disease is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2700 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
