Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Quality of life (QoL) refers to a state of general well-being that comprises objective descriptors and subjective evaluations of physical, material, social and emotional well-being. In Parkinson’s disease (PD), QoL has been found to be reduced not only by motor symptoms, but also by a wide range of non-motor symptoms, especially cognitive deficits and neuropsychiatric symptoms (e.g., apathy and depression). These symptoms can profoundly impact the patient’s daily activities, causing severe disability. It is widely known that the effect of the psychological burden on the quality of life in PD patients is even greater than the severity of the disease itself. As a consequence, PD patients need psychological intervention, in addition to any pharmacological treatment, in order to improve their QoL.

The goal of this Special Issue is to present the most recent and advanced research on the main determinants of a good quality of life in PD patients, its improvement possibilities, and on new QoL measures.

We will accept empirical articles, theoretical proposals, or scientific reviews that can provide new insights into mental health and QoL in PD patients.
