Special Issue Information

Dear colleagues,

Accumulating evidence from basic and translational research is unveiling the bio-psycho-social processes underlying the complex relationships between insomnia and ill health. In fact, while it is well-known that insomnia is a longitudinal precursor of mental and somatic illness, the factors underlying these relationships are yet to be clarified. Strong contributions in this direction are coming from different areas of research, including clinical psychology and psychophysiology, neurobiology and psychobiology, genetics, psychiatry, and neurology. Moreover, valuable contributions from public health and economic research are showing an interest in estimating the social and economic burden of insomnia, as well as the cost-effectiveness of preventive and treatment interventions for insomnia.

Within this context, this Special Issue offers an opportunity to publish high-quality interdisciplinary empirical research and reviews that report on the wide range of topics related to the effects of insomnia on health. Contributions focusing on potential bio-psycho-social variables underlying the relationships between insomnia and mental and/or physical health, as well as interventional studies, are welcomed.
