Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Chronic diseases that are not contagious result from genetic mutations, environmental factors, and a poor lifestyle (e.g., physical inactivity). It is well documented that chronic and non-communicable diseases are major culprits that predominantly threaten global health. According to a recent report of the World Health Organization, non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, obesity, chronic kidney diseases, stroke, hypertension, Alzheimer’s disease, and autoimmune diseases account for approximately two-thirds of deaths worldwide. Furthermore, the prevalence of non-communicable disorders has been persistently and rapidly increasing in developing and industrialized countries. Thus, numerous researchers have turned their attention to whether and how modifiable risk factors (e.g., regular exercise) reduce chronic noninfectious diseases and mortality. Indeed, there is compelling evidence that physical activity, including exercise, training, and leisure–professional sports activities, prevents or ameliorates cardiovascular diseases, metabolic dysfunctions, as well as neurological disorders. However, the translational implications and underlying molecular mechanisms of physical activity on non-communicable disorders have yet to be fully determined. Therefore, we encourage basic science researchers, applied exercise scientists, and health professionals to publish in this Special Issue their state-of-the-art clinical strategies, mechanisms, and research findings that will help us to conquer neurological, cardiovascular, metabolic, and other noninfectious disorders.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2500 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
